Improving Last Mile Access to Quality Agent Services in India

- In the global effort to provide financial services to the vulnerable and excluded, the emergence of agent networks has proven to be a game-changer. Facilitated by Digital Financial Services (DFS), agency banking has shattered the barriers posed by traditional “brick and mortar” branches, ushering in an era of branchless banking.
In India, Banking Corresponding Agents (BCAs) have played the significant role of improving access to last mile communities. Beyond access, how do we improve the quality of agent networks at the last mile? To address this, it is important to understand the key pain-points to quality of agent networks at the last mile and the role both the suppliers and regulators can play to address these.
This webinar, hosted by The Inclusion Economics India Centre (IEIC) in collaboration with The Retail Finance Distribution (ReFinD) Research Initiative, of the Institute of Statistical, Social and Economic Research (ISSER), University of Ghana will explore improving access to quality agent services at last mile communities in India. It will also introduce a research grant opportunity that aims to support innovative interventions that will expand the reach and improve efficiency of agent networks operations.
