10GB is enough for 1440p or 4k DLSS unless you enable RT. RT eats more memory so you will have to drop texture quality settings to recovery some memory.

Rtx 3080 should be fine at 1440p gaming for a couple more years right?. I bought asus rog strix 3080 for $350 usd and im hoping it will play Black Myth Wukong and Assassins Creed Shadows at 1440p high settings.

yes, it should be okay and I missed one thing from the video, and it is the upscaling technologies which can make 3080 more future proof.
I am planning to make a video about its role now and in the future and if you are interested in what DLSS and FSR is, you can find the answer in this video th-cam.com/video/krBW9vw4dgY/w-d-xo.html

depending what you deem as playable.. in Black Myth Wukong, you will get around 40-60 fps at 1440p and thats without Ray tracing.
if you enable FG youl get 70ish fps. but with a game like this, lag could be a problem so it really depends how sensitive you are to these things.

10gb is enough. Just dont reclessly max everything out especially game such as Re4 remake and the last of us i have 6800xt those 2 games use more than 14gb of vram with everything maxed out 1440p crazy world we live in i remember cyberpunk only uses 6gb of vram on ultra settings but ohh well it is what it is

The problem is that the 3080 was advertised as a 4K card back then and playing at 4K with DLSS/FSR quality with frame generation should be perfectly viable. However since FG also uses extra VRAM the 10GB version might run out of it in a few games. It's so dumb that even the 1080 TI and the 3060 have more when those are much weaker cards.
The 4060 Ti with 8gb is also very bad.

no cyberpunk uses over 16gb at ultra settings with ray tracing. it used to be borderline 9GB but with all the patches the game has had and the includeing of enhanced path tracing...it requires alot more vram then before.

Today you need at least video card whit 16GB of VRam to have a cofort gaming, otherwise - massive fps drops, stuters, lags and freezes, not fully loaded textures and other issues, even when using budget 300 dollar cards. On Hardware Unboxed channel you can see the results, of using cards whit less than 12GB of VRam.

II disagree with you. We have plenty of videos on 2024 games measured at 1440p ultra settings, some showing continuous gameplay for an hour. The video memory requirements for Helldivers 2, Once Human, and The First Descendant were between 7-8 GB, and while Ghost of Tsushima reached 9.7 GB, the game provided a smooth experience throughout, with no frame time spikes that weren't also present on the 3090. Of course we used DLSS everywhere, which you can ignore and play in native resolution, which done by all those tech channels, who wants to prove, 8 or 10 GB video memory isn't enough in 2024. But I think most real life gamers didn't care about if its native or upscaled, most of us just want to enjoy the smooth gameplay.
If you reach a point in a game where VRAM paging causes stuttering, you can still lower the settings; there's life below ultra, especially if you're using a 4-year-old graphics card. Recently, we had a LAN party and used auto settings in Fortnite. The 2080 Super's 8 GB memory was insufficient even at 1080p in epic settings; textures didn't load, and the game stuttered to the point of being unplayable. But after switching from epic to high settings, it stabilized at 80 fps and provided a flawless experience for a friend who has a 3080TI in his own setup. So, it's not true that you should forget about gaming if you don't have a 12 or 16 GB card. There are scenarios where 10 GB is indeed insufficient, but switching to high settings from ultra can still offer a pleasant gaming experience. What will happen in 2025-2026 and beyond is uncertain, but 2024 and earlier games are perfectly playable on a 10 GB 3080, and I believe that with reduced settings, future games will also be manageable for a while.

Just admit you don't know what you're talking about. You haven't seen footage of 8gb 3060 t. I whooping a 3060 12 gb? Vram isn't everything. If you optimize your PC too you'll get crazy gains and Vram will hardly be an issue.

I switched from 1440p to a 2160p screen recently and using the 3080 10GB. And while the performance is now obviously lower, the only VRAM issue I noticed is that the game drops to 1 fps when exiting a menu, or when changing a graphics setting. So yes, I hit the VRAM limit and the game has to reload everything. But overall the experience is as smooth as before.
