    Very informative!
    Makes it easier to make the decision on where to go this season.

    For anyone shopping at Samaun, there is a customs hut when you get the left back up to Viderjoch - on the border, so you may face a customs check and, if you have exceeded your duty free limit, pay duty. .

    Ishcgl is my favourite resort in the world, I was out there this year when they shut the the resort for Covid-19. I would also highly recommend going to Galtur for a day, it is an easy ski day and has some great runs, it is only 20 minuets on the bus from Ischgl. If you miss the English pub while out there then the Golden Eagle is always a good spot.

    When you take the duty free samnaun run remember to bring your passport. I didn't and was afraid of being refused acess across the border. We did get checked by the police on the way back. We had to show what we bought but thankfully didnt need to show ID. and yes, paznauer taya is the best. Look for some guy dressed up as a Russian KGB agent. He's always there.

    • @niek3839
      @niek3839 6 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      That not needed as Switzerland is part of the Schengentreaty, meaning free travel within Europe. You only have to show you ID/Passport when you cross a border of a country that is not part of this treaty.
      However, bringing ID is never a bad thing. It only helps to have it on you when accidents happen or something like that.

    Public transport; I travelled to Ischgl from Munich Airport, getting the tube from Airport to Munchen Hauptbahnhof ( or you can get off at Munchen Ost -)and onward by train to Innsbruck, then getting train from Innsbruck to Landek Zams and finally get the connecting bus, outside the train station, directly to Ischgl. Alternatively you can catch a FlixBus from outside the airport terminal which travels into Munich and then on to Innsbruck and drops passengers close to train station. Flixbus takes longer than by train but is much cheaper; I paid 21 euro from airport to Innsbruck - best to book bus ticket online to ensure a seat.

Some are very laid back and mostly ski and some like to go dancing, etc. Great group of diverse people. You are welcome to join us anytime.

    8.5 for village charm? As you mentioned, its one of the most charming ski villages in Austria. It's clean, very well maintained and offers pretty good shopping facilities. I'd definitively give it a 9.5. I agree with the other scores.

    • @thesep1967

      @@amblincork Huh, a junior historian in the making! Maybe check your sources, or even better, consult them, to begin with.

      @@thesep1967 Ok , any adult knew about covid before they went there - is that better ?

    • @thesep1967
      @thesep1967 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@amblincork No, it's still wrong. Check the chronology of 'COVID'. The timespan in question is early to mid-March 2020. The very name 'COVID' was barely a month old at the time and by far not universally used yet. In Austria the first cases were reported in early March, but the exponential growth in China in the months before and the growing problems in Italy were known to authorities and there were serious discussions in government circles about closing the tourism season early. And there was already troubling feedback from a number of European countries claiming that their returning tourists had brought back COVID in numerous cases and there was probably an infection hotspot in Tyrol.
      Enter the Tyrolean Tourism Tycoons.
      They were fighting like hell to postpone measures and well positioned to do so with their political clout. When finally first measures (like stopping the idiotic binge drinking evenings) were enacted they simply ignored them for a number of days, and when finally a lockdown was planned their cronies in the local chamber of commerce leaked the info early and produced an absolutely chaotic mass-exodus which helped spread the virus further. All well documented, check the press of the time, even the whitewash local enquiry commission report is damning enough.
      Again: use sources, not opinions. And don't suppose you can ever know what thousands of other people were knowing or thinking at a given time. You don't.
