As someone who skied this slope many times (and even last week) I can confirm the most steep part is not the entrance of the slope, but the part after the narrow path (which is labelled 14c). 70% grade is exactly 35 degrees, so I am not sure what you are trying to say? All 70% grade pistes are 35 degrees. That is quite steep on ski's. The Harakiri in Mayrhofen is 78% or 38 degrees, which is not much steeper than this run. People that call 70% a red run obviously have no experience skiing whatsoever.
@@Marchah Let's keep this discussion in English :) Wether a slope is icy changes every week. Mostly in March, most slopes are icy in the morning, and a bit soft from noon. Actually, currently due to high temperatures, intermediates and even beginners can safely ski most black runs.... they are so slushy that it's very easy to control your speed on them. Remember that a 78% slope isn't 78% all the way. The run in this video is actually very steep after the narrow path. It just doesn't show on camera.

@@mattwachsman4937 I've tracked my speed with an app before and I can say that 40+ feels FAST. This is coming from an adrenaline junkie too lol. I kept trying to break 50 and I could only do it like twice because it was hard to find a slope that was steep enough even when straight lining and crouching to be more streamlined. This video is the best example of the go pro effect I've ever seen. It does zero justice to reality.

Hoellkar is a black run these days? I remember it as one of the more relaxing “autobahns” in Ischgl. That said: skiing fast is not that challenging….try to lay down some elegant carving curves. The snow and terrain are made for that!
Keeping left at the top of the Palinkopf brings you onto the start of the 'Smuggler's Run', which takes you into the Samnaun Valley in Switzerland. It's a great place to stop for a rosti or beer. BTW, I had my brand new Stocklis stolen from a ski-rack outside the Ice Bar, which you passed at the bottom of the Hollencar at the end. The Ice Bar was usually an early-morning haunt for coffees, before it became inundated with posers flaunting all the latest gear and never skiing.
And both of them aint the fastest , not even in Ischgl. You cant go straight down there but there are slopes (like if you go left from where he finished the slope) where you can go just straight where atleast i got 134kmh . Obv the other one Could be faster but that aint safe even if there are no ppl cause you will fly over the slope lol
The fish eye effect of the go pro dampens the impact of the slope, known as the go pro effect. I imagine that the slope is a black because for portions of it it contains long stretches of steep terrain with no easy way for a skier to stop if they do fall.

Had no idea is the steepest or hardest. Just came back from Ischgl and I loved it there but I cannot say I was impressed with the steepness of the groomed runs. On the other hand, off-piste you can find some challenging terrain. To me the steepest seemed to be 4a just before intersecting 7.
Try 7a. It's a red run with a fairly steep pitch of 42 degrees (or 90%). It used to be black but hey, you need a red run down the valley so now it's red. That is the steepest run of Ischgl, and... the best part is the steepest part is so narrow you cannot pass anyone. Seeing it's branded red, also novices go down that route, so better bring your a-game to avoid accidents.

I’ve had friends go from not being able to even stand up on a pair of skis to red slopes (in between blue and black, I know not every country uses red slopes) in a matter of hours! All it takes is someone pushing you! I’ve had a similar experience snowboarding I feel like. (Besides falling and getting my arm hurt first day of the trip once) Quick progression is easy in the beginning. On the second day I was tumbling down a black slope with relative control.. albeit I maybe wouldn’t put it as good.

@@masterchief-vd1xs No, not really. Of course you aren't doing it if you don't feel confident enough to do it. The slope was wide and no one was speeding. If you're the beginner, everyone else need to watch out for you, not the other way around. It was perfectly safe on a wide slope with few other people.
GoPro distorts image considerably. Try looking up on YT a GoPro video from a slope you've seen in real life, and you'll be surprised by the difference.
Hi Mark, yep the Gopro's wide angle makes it look a lot less steep I think it's the second steepest in-bound run in Austria so it's pretty firmly in the black category
It’s steeper than it looks and it depends on the day you go that top section can be icy 🥶 however it’s not that difficult really. Isgul is great resort!
omg looks very dificult but i think i would give it a shot if not many people were there ;D beacuse im skiing slowly and i feel uncomftable when skiers are going fast i feel like they wouldnt want me there
No !! We were all slow skiers at one stage so do not feel uncomfortable !! Going around a slow skier is very easy on those wide pistes so you wont be a problem for any decent skier !!!

Maybe other trails around there are that steep but FatMap topo map tells me 14A is only 30degree incline and 14C is 35 degrees. There's a short stretch in the middle where it's steep but it's just an average black diamond in North America.
He passes the lift station (C5 lift) around 2:47. This lift takes you up in a couple of minutes. To get there in the first place you take the lift C2 hollkär (from höllboden, restaurant at the end of the movie) and then ski the red slope down which holds to the right and gives you access to the lift up.
1:15 really stepping into it. The difficulty seems lower because of the lack of idiots out of their depth. It seemed like pretty pro skiers riding with you. The hardest part at the end when you hit 60 mph was avoiding hitting the other skiers/riders on the merge IMO. Beautiful scenery. It seems you are surrounded by mountains so vertigo isn't as bad as it would be on that grade. Keep having fun. Love your videos.
I depends on the conditions and the number of people on the slope. He clearly tried to wait for the other people to be far enough away before he started. 🤔 There's no point in being reckless, just to go fast.

I hit 68mph once at Stevens Pass in Washington State back in 2010. 60 is pretty easy to hit if traffic is light and the snow is well-groomed.

@@kingfreddy5268 Yes, underneath palinkopf lift there is a black slope. I went 125km/h no danger at all because you can just go uphill next to brake.

This is my favourite run in ischgl. And it is steep - anyway! Try it - and enjoy!

Can't say I rated the resort that much. There's a lot better resorts in Austria than there. The nightlife is also incredibly seedy.
