    Wishbone Ash, the beauty of simplicity and competence: lead guitar, rhythm guitar, bass and drums, NOTHING ELSE. Perfect vocalization, wonderful songs. The best of great English rock! His album Argus, from the early 70s, is a landmark in world music, like Sargent Peppers of the B|EATLES. His song "Persephone", is very sensitive and beautiful: you listens to it twice and it never leaves his head. I met Wishbone Ash by chance in the 70s when I was in my early 20s. I'm 73, he's with me to this day. It's impossible to listen to a W.A. song and not like it. As I said, the best of great English rock...

    I saw this lineup March 23 , 2022 in Charlotte NC, U.S.A. . THEY DID THE ENTIRE "ARGUS " ALBUM WITH 3 OTHER TUNES . THIS SONG A YEAR LATER IS THE BETTER VERSION. BOTH WERE GREAT WITH SOUND EFFECTS IN BOTH . THEY'RE GETTING BETTER .

    One of the best performances I've ever heard of this - my favourite Wishbone Song - not a note out of place by Mark and as always he shows he's really enjoying performing and also acknowledging the audience too ! Great recorded sound and video Alexsandar.
    P.S. I've followed the band ever since first seeing the Mk 1 lineup on my 17th birthday in 1972 at Birmingham Town Hall and have seen all the various line-ups since then over 70 odd shows !

Congratulations to the band! When you play this legendary work it's nice to see you enjoy that playing. And I enjoy each tone, 'cause they are all stored in my brain since the great 1979 concert in Munich. Thank you so much!❤

    Saw them at Lincoln last night 4/9/23, magnificent, the best i''ve ever heard them, electrifying. Where did they get that guitarist Mark Abraham from, a genius and perfect compliment to Andy Powell.

  • @ValThor-g2c
    @ValThor-g2c ปีที่แล้ว +11

    I like Andy's band, but prefer Martin's Band. Abrams is KILLER on guitar here. Great tone, clean pure playing (very Wishbone Ash). He is a huge addition to Andys' band. Nice guy too. He reminds me of Laurie Wisefield, another brilliant player. Heck, they all are. Crabtree is too stiff for me, and he lacks the swing that Upton had and Tim Brown (Martin's Band) had too. That said Crabtree is an excellent drummer, but more of the Neil Peart/Gavin Harrison linear style. I prefer the swing and am a jazz fusion player myself. The drum tuning is also different. Upton was from the jazz blues feel and had that open tympanic tone of the whole drum vs the flat "smack" tuning of fashion in later years. Billy Cobham, Lenny White, Curt Cress (Passport), Alphonse Muzon (Bonham's fave) all had that open tympanic melodic tuning. Huge to the sound of the bands they were in. Upton had this, Tim Brown does.

      Such a great well informed comment. Well said my friend. Not to be nasty, but Martin's band is far superior to this. I know Martin's voice is fading with age, but Andy Powell is no vocalist. Although Abraham's is very good, this band just seem to be going through the motions. Compared to MTWA here we have inferior drive, energy, enthusiasm plus inferior vocal, bass playing, and drumming.
      I went to see Martin's band recently and they were far better, both musically and importantly, they were having a good time . I first saw Wishbone Ash in 1969, they were quite something and had a huge influence on me. I'm afraid this is a far cry from that great band.

    One of my favourite melodies which I still listen often. The themes in "The King Will Come" can indeed be related to the present political struggles and the dynamics of power and hegemony among nation-states around the world. The song's abstract and philosophical lyrics capture the cyclical nature of power, the consequences of leadership, and the inevitable reckoning that follows.
    By interpreting the song in the context of current global politics, we can see parallels in the rise and fall of leaders, the impact of their actions, and the persistent struggles for dominance and control. The imagery of judgment, transformation, and revolution resonates with ongoing political conflicts and changes, making the song relevant and thought-provoking even today.
    Thank you!

      In the late I had an early 70s orange head and cab and was a big WA fan(still am).The Orange had an awesome tone and power and I could get that slightly overdriven clean piercing sound heard here and not the bludgeoning thunder of a Marshall although I had one of those too.Trouble was it kept blowing up every second or third gig and finally I sold it when the third or fourth repairmen suggested a complete rebuild which I couldn’t afford. The best version of TKWC I have heard in ages and it’s not one of my fave WA songs.

    Wow - quite the flashback for me. I bought "Live Dates" after hearing it ON THE RADIO (I know, weird but that's the product of a time when DJs could play whatever they liked). I grew up listening to WMMR in Philly (before "Classic Rock" was a thing) and I heard so many genres and bands that broadened my appreciation of unfamiliar musics. I'm sure Pandora can come up with something roughly equivalent but this was from the end of the golden age of FM rock.

    I do wish the guitars were just a little more overdriven .maybe they sounded it live. But this lead guitarist is a joy to watch and listen to. And i like the bass melody solo. The special quality of the 70s versions of the band were it's triple lead guitars 😉. So the punch of playing with a pick at the edge of overdrive is something i seek. An arrangement aspect i wondered forever about- even back to original versions: when that great chord sequence kicks off, why isnt it done with more explosive drama? Maybe with a slight pause between sections . Im just a fan .and im not criticizing .but it just seems to take the band a bit by surprise. ( And i mean even to the earlier line-ups.) The king is coming " for god's sake!"🥴 Why not shout it? Anyway- love this performance. Thanks for filming and posting.

    Can't help wondering how many lineup changes there have been since they let Ted Turner go. That was bad news for me, I really liked him and wish he had stayed. I met with Copeland junior just after he retunred from Vietnam. The father worked for the CIA, Miles Copeland Snr. He was on News at One on ITV when asked about Arms for Iran to assist the Contras, he replied "The hell Reagan didn't know about arms to Iran .... We in real trouble !" That made me lasugh. I knew Twitty Ted's ex, she shared the flat in Wood Green for a while with her Maggy. They were very beautiful. Those were the ..... you know !

    Why is the sum 3 a magic number? It's the same for such bands, it's basically a law of nature: after the third LP/CD, etc., everything went down musically and qualitatively for everyone. From the genius of the first three albums to normal to embarrassing. The reason is that youthful creativity and inspiration is lost ore exhausted. Or they died at the age of around 30. A natural law that was only withheld from Bach and Bethoven and Hayden. and some jazz musicians and singers.
