Very nice carving!!! I've never seen a carving of a vulture before and this one looks perfect for a gift for my uncle since he has a LOT of vultures around his property there on the California coast!!! Thanks for sharing and I look forward to your future carving videos!!! Stay SAFE and HEALTHY!!!
Thank you!
Great job. This might be something I try in the winter, when it is to cold to be in the shop.
Great project! I actually saw that book at a flea market a couple months ago and passed on it. After the world opens up again I’ll have to go back and see if it’s still there. I really want to give carving a try now
I find it quite relaxing, and you did an awesome job.
Brilliantly done thankyou for sharing xx
Wow this is cool. Thank you.
Pretty cool, removing most of the wood with the bandsaw 100% made it faster n enjoyable to do I bet
Book arrived today, photocopied the pattern from the book.Glued some pine slats together, start carving as soon as glue dries...thanks for a great beginners project.BTW hope my buzzard turns out as good as yours.
I like this
Looked great
What I have done when I was cutting out blanks, was to cut out the front/back view first, and then tack the cutout pieces back to the blank (I used a hot glue gun with just a tack of glue). Some people tape the pieces back together and then finish cutting the other side. But I am not the only one who does this. Just a tip.
Woodworking seemed fun. But now, it seems more fun than I first thought it was.
That's awesome!
Thanks!
I love this! I tried last night carving my first attempt with those cheap tools and I kinda already knew it wouldn’t work unfortunately I quit early because my arms were killing me. I guess I’ll haven’t to bite the bullet and get useful tools. Thanks for this one of the best ive seen
Thanks for the feedback. I originally bought cheap carving tools at harbor freight, which were horrible. Good tools make a world of difference.
you did a good job of him ..I have carved several of these and did a video on one ..you should be proud of yourself
Thank you Gene. I appreciate that coming from someone with your expertise. I looked at your channel. Wow, you have a lot of videos and a wealth of expertise and experience. Thank you for the comments and encouragement.
Tom
@@AlleyPicked You did a good job ..you deserve it ..keep up the good work
@@whittler0507 hi Gene, I was just going to tell him he did a great job. Hope to see more of his carvings.
Bardzo ładny sęp, super wygląda, pozdrawiam z Polski
The residue left on the wood from sanding will dull your knives.
No carving glove. That might give give you a big OUCH. Nice carving. You don't need expensive tools to do this. Now have fun.
Pretty Kool
You bought wood??! Okay, what have you done with the real Tom? Well, whoever you are, it turned out extremely well. And I agree about the cheap carving tools; they're immensely frustrating. Sharpening them is an adventure on it's own. Good job mate, very enjoyable as always. But let the real Tom back in time for the next one...
I apologize for buying wood...BUT, I did use a coupon! 20% off LOL
@@AlleyPicked Coupon. Hmm, well...okay, but don't let it happen again.
I have always felt I was going to try it, even have the book, but it just seems I never got around to it
same here -- took me awhile to get motivated.
Great
Doing good maybe I will
I thought I was the only one that used a disc sander to waste off unwanted wood ! 👍
Whatever it takes :-)
👏👏👏👏👏😘😘😘😘😘
What size blade did you have on your bandsaw?..you seem to be able to move the wood around as if using a scroll saw.
Hi. Good observation. I believe I used a 1/8" blade. It works well for softer woods where I have more intricate cuts. I also have a scroll saw but it needs some repair work.
So the nicer set of carvers. What're they called?
The brand of knivesI used are made by a company called "Flexcut".
12$ that's high hi hope it was bass wood. good job
8:40 10/10
You could of found the wood in the alley
You can buy bass wood for way cheaper elsewhere
Please share any info you have. Thanks.
who do you think you are fooling you carved be for?????
I'll take that as a compliment :-)
