The wood is made of Kiso Hinoki (Japanese cypress).

This is what my junior year highschool teacher expected the class to make with popsicle sticks and glue. Within a weeks worth of time (we would only have her class 2 or 3 days a week.)
The skill of many years is the sharpest chisel. Hands feel the sound of the blade guided through wood. From the courage of the hammer's first loud blows up until the quiet tiny caresses of a finishing edge. The eyes remember.

What a amazing technique you have mastered. Can you tell me if you make your own chisels and when did you start with learning? Did you have a teacher or did you go to a art school? I am totally flabbergasted at how your hands seem to be completely in control. A true master!
Thank you very much. The chisels are purchased from a forge maker. I started wood carving when I was 18 years old. At first I attended school and then apprenticed to a master. Now I am making it by myself.
