    Oh! I have to try this soon! I’ve never thought about sweetened condensed milk as the base for yogurt. Btw when I was a kid in the Philippines had frozen treats called ice candy in similar plastic bags but skinner and longer. Good memories!

    about the french prononciation, it sounds quite different of the Vietnamese pronunciation ;) We are saying yogourt (which is really close to english pronunciation actually) or yahourt

    • @jennienguyen7137
      @jennienguyen7137 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      We Vietnamese pronounced as Ya-Ua which is yahourt in French. We dropped the “t” sounds, sorry. All younger Vietnamese now called this Ya-Ua as Sữa Chua (translated to sour milk). Every time we hear Sữa Chua we lost our appetite for yogurt. Especially this wonderful yogurt is not sour. It’s light, creamy, mild sweet with a hint of tartness. Back then we didn’t have fresh milk available, so to make yogurt we had to mixed condensed milk with boiled water not because milk wasn’t popular.

      Hook one end of the rubber band on your finger, then start to wrap the rubber band around the bag. When you feel that the band is tighten around the bag enough, loop the end over the loop on your finger then use the loop over the finger to finally loop on the tied bag piece. Hope that explain it.

    Thank you for sharing this recipe! My yogurt did not set after 7 hours (It was still a little thick and sweet) and there was a layer of whey under the yogurt. Do you think I should keep it in the oven for longer?

    • @HelenRecipes
      @HelenRecipes  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thank you for trying the Vietnamese yogurt recipe! If your yogurt didn't fully set after 7 hours and still had a sweet taste with whey underneath, it's possible that it needed more time to ferment. I recommend keeping it in the oven for a bit longer, checking the consistency and taste periodically until it reaches the desired thickness and tanginess. Each oven and climate can affect fermentation time, so a little extra patience might be needed. Good luck, and I hope your next batch turns out perfectly!

      Frozen yogurt can last up to three months but refrigerator last two weeks else it will turn into cottage cheese. This type of yogurt has live yeast which is good probiotic for stomach and female gender. In the US , many yogurts pasteurized before been put on display.

      @doodahgurlie 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      That's just the whey. You can drink it, but it'd be sour. Try using whole milk or half-and-half instead of water for a thicker, creamier version and most likely less whey. If it's too runny then just strain the whey out (use a sieve and either cheesecloth or coffee filters) and pour your yogurt in and allow it to drain. That's how you basically make a thick Greek-like yogurt. :)

    Another site calls for 6 cups of milk. Your recipe only calls for 1.5 cups. Which is correct? It looks like you get a lot for:
    1 can condensed milk + 1 can of hot milk + 1.5 can of cold milk.

      It depends on your choice, you can try both recipes and choice the best one for you.

      Elizabeth Lan It’s supposed to taste like...nornal yogurt. We’re making nornal yogurt. If you’d like it to taste better, you could replace the water by milk.

      it should be more tart and richer than normal yogurt and more custardy in texture

    How much yogurt do you add? I didn't see any measurement on the yogurt container that you used.

      You really only need 1 tsp of yogurt to make a gallon of yogurt (just make sure you use a plain yogurt as starter and not one that's flavored). The secret is to ensure that the yogurt doesn't cool off too quickly, so make sure you cover it well with lots of blankets to ensure it keeps the heat while incubating. And do not disturb or touch the yogurt until after it's done incubating.
