      Thanks! I was scared I’d break something the first time I tried this, but it wasn’t hard at all. And you’re welcome, the dealer charges quite a bit to do this job :(

      Awesome man, glad to help! Yeah, it's funny how when you learn to redo something yourself, you tend to discover the mistakes made by the "pros" that did it the first time.

    Well done sir, thank you! Appreciate the thoroughness of the video. However I did purchase a $125 dollar motor with a 10 year warranty, hoping it will last a little longer and if it fails I'll get a free replacement.

    Thank You for walking me through this! Managed to do this all on a Sunday morning. Purchased plastic trim tool kit at Harbor Freight on Saturday and here it is noon on Sunday and I have a new motor in my 2009 350z. Took it slow and would pause video and complete that step and then come back in and watch the next process. Went exactly as you showed. Only thing I did was "snap" one of the 12mm bolts that hold the panel on the door. It was metal on metal but I got too aggressive on it. Left it in though. The plastic inserts I was gentle on, so no problem. Cellophane tape on socket helped with the bolt behind door handle for sure. If I rattle later on I'll know that it is the snapped 12mm bolt but I think it'll stay just fine. Door control did snap off piece of plastic, but it snapped back on and held just fine when re-assembled, so I'm assuming this is common and there are plenty of "snaps" to hold it. Took a couple times of resetting motor to get it to work correctly but just repeated till it was correct. It's done and I have a functioning window once again. Hat's off to a great video. Had your voice in my head walking me through it. Thumbs up!

      Awesome! I'm glad that you found the video helpful! Yes, I forgot to mention how fragile some of the plastic pieces can be, especially now that our cars are on the older end. Luckily, I believe most parts are still available through Nissan, even that 12mm bolt!

    This is absolutely the BEST video I have seen .... I had diagnosed the problem as being the control switch on the door but didn't have a clue how to remove the trim piece holding the switches...found the answer about 2.30 minutes in and followed the how to....in less than 10 minutes I replaced my switch assembly and everything works. Couldn't be happier!

    great video! Many of the other videos addressing this issue skip past the door panel removal process. I have a passenger-side window issue and the dealer wanted $375 for the motor...$675 for the motor and installation. The local auto parts chain store had a price of $156 for the motor. I watch your video, bought the panel tool kit from the auto parts store for $20...the part recommended/linked on Amazon for $33. All-in for $53 and an afternoon of my time!

    Great video! I appreciate you not rambling on about things that are not part of the problem. You are direct and explain the process very well. One thing to add is the regulator adjustment ( window) drags at the top ). Hopefully I can find that with another google search.

      @GarageAntics  ปีที่แล้ว

      Hey, thanks so much! Yeah, I tried to get straight to the point, I feel the same about the rambling. I wish I would have gone into it more, but the bolts i mention around the 9:00 mark are for adjusting the regulator. If it’s dragging, just loosen those a bit and it should go away.

    Pro tip: like he said, these go out ALL the time. I bought 2 online and replaced them myself, they last a few months, if lucky close to a year each but then you have to buy another one. So just spend the extra cash at your local autozone/o Reilly’s and get the warranty, you won’t have to pay for another one again just get it replaced through the warranty.

    This is quite possibly one of the best ‘how-to’ videos I’ve ever seen. I have an 05 350z touring coupe and the window motors work perfectly. I’m was watching just in case the day comes that I have to replace it. Thankyou so much for making this video. Even though I have no experience with working on cars I now feel like I can replace the motor with ease after just watching this video once. Quick question: do you know how long the motors actually last? And what are early signs that I need to look out for?

    • @GarageAntics
      @GarageAntics  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thanks so much! Prior to doing this myself, the videos I watched all left a few things out, so I wanted to make one that covered everything that I encountered. Unfortunately, it's one of those things that will eventually fail. It's a little daunting at first, but actually a pretty easy job, even for someone not used to working on cars. The lifespan of the motors can vary, especially with usage. I've owned my '03 Z since brand new, and this was the second replacement on the driver side motor, and the passenger side has been replaced once. So, I'd say with regular usage, they last roughly 5-6 years. Early signs are usually when the window doesn't open or close the first time you press the button. It could possibly mean that the window control switch has failed, but if it starts working again after you hit the interior door panel or open and close the door, it's a sure sign that it's the window motor and not the switch.

    • @GarageAntics

      It’s the 4 screws with the nuts in place that I mention at the 9:35 mark. They may be too tight. Try loosening them in half-turn increments. Just plug the control panel in and test until the window moves at the right speed.

      Are you referring to lining the the motor up with the keyhole? It shouldn’t take too much effort, but an option is to try rotating it a little with a pair of pliers. Just make sure you wrap the key with something like a cloth before gripping it with the pliers to avoid scratching it.

    • @GarageAntics
      @GarageAntics  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hey thanks so much! It’s more than likely the same issue. If you need to get the window back up, try hitting the side of the door, sometimes that can loosen the carbon build up enough to get it to work once more. It’s only a temporary solution though, don’t use the window again until you can do the replacement.

    • @GarageAntics
      @GarageAntics  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      This is that procedure, it’s no different whether the window is stuck up or down. You just may need to be a little more creative in holding the window in place when you take things apart, but tape should still do the job.

      @@thaouthouseradioshowwithdm6167 You don't have your window switch lock on the driver's side engaged, do you? Also, check the connections to the power window switch. In this case, it could be the actual switch and not the motor.

      @@GarageAntics it’s not locked. I just want to see if I have to replace the regulator or when do you know when you have to replace the regulator? I hear the click when I use the switch on both sides the door has.

      @@thaouthouseradioshowwithdm6167 I don't think the regulator needs to be replaced unless you see that the cables look stretched and/or worn out, or if little white plastic pieces that secure the cables are broken. Maybe you have the regulator bolts on too tight, and it's restricting the motor from moving the window up and down? Try loosening the bolts, they shouldn't need much torque, maybe hand tight, or slightly more.

    What if my window is stuck down? Will I still be able to change it with ease on my passenger side?

    • @GarageAntics
      @GarageAntics  ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes, you can still change it with the window down. Alternatively, once you remove the motor, you can raise it back up, but will have to secure it in place using the method mentioned until you get everything back together.

      Nope, not at all! I've had to replace these in both situations (window stuck up and window stuck down), and was still able to access everything.

    Just stumbled across your channel. Looks like I am late to the game and you may have stepped away from making new content. I dig your garage collection. I see TX plates. Where are you located? I'm in the DFW area myself. -Chris

      No sir, not late at all! I’ve been filming new content as recently as two days ago. I have several videos that I need to edit, just haven’t made time yet. Located in Amarillo!

      @@GarageAntics okay cool. I have been wanting to ramp up a channel myself, just haven't had time. So I have a stock (for now) silver 91 Z32 TT, a red 91 VW GTI VR6 swap (show car), a black 95 LEX SC300 and a couple of other cool cars. Oh and I had a black '88 RX7 T2 with the same Yoko AVS wheels I see on the white Z32 in the background. Like seeing "local" guys doing it. Amarillo isn't exactly around the corner from FW, but glad to see another TXN holding it down. I'm going to stay tuned in. Good content. Keep it up, Sir.

    The inside of my 05 350z(enthusiast) , looked nothing like this. I didn't have to remove steel plate and it had a hell of a lot more screws lined up vertically. Doing the job wasn't that easy.

    My window is stuck down and I’m 6 hours away from home, is it possible for me to open the door panel and just try to force the window to stay up?? Or will it just fall without the motor working ??

    • @GarageAntics
      @GarageAntics  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I don’t really recommend trying to force it, you could risk damaging the glass or possibly messing up the regulator. Have you tried hitting the door panel like I did at the beginning of the video? That usually works a few times at the first sign of failure, as it breaks free some of the built up carbon that’s inside the motor. Or you can try hitting it after taking the interior panel off for better contact.

    Can I just roll the window down and leave it like that? Or do I have to tape it?

    • @GarageAntics
      @GarageAntics  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      You could probably get away with rolling the window down, but it's possible that the window may fall further into the door as you loosen the regulator and make adjustments. It's not too big of a deal, you can just raise it up by hand since the access panel is off.. I prefer to leave it up and apply tape since I know that as long as the tape stays in place and attached to the glass, everything will remain as I left it when the new motor has been installed.

    Does the window roll down a bit when you open the door on the aftermarket part?

    • @GarageAntics
      @GarageAntics  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes, it should still drop down like the factory one. If not, you may have to redo the calibration sequence, or check the door position switch on the door jamb.
