Hi mate. I always use 4x4 cm alu tape for zeroing thermal scopes. It gives you a nice sharpe image, not blury like with the heating pads. Put it on cardboard and angle it to the sky a bit.
I’m running the same scope, unfortunately minimal deer in Western Australia so mainly foxes. normally take my non thermal rifle for sighting in to check the hits. Have you had a play with the ballistic calculator? It’s pretty impressive. It’s real cool how you can use the thermals with good success during the day in NZ. Not so lucky with the heat in Western Australia!
i cant believe all the bad press you're getting! If you've got a deer problem (which it seems you have) then you need to control them. How you do it is up to you, it's your place after all. I have no problem with using thermal gear to do that if it helps. Yeah, shame about the old stag, that's probably the only downside but always enjoy your vids, keep it up, it encourages us to keep at it as well. Cheers.
Yea spot on mate. Some people just feel really strongly about them for whatever reason but like you say on your own land when numbers need controlling it’s a great tool. Cheers for the comment👍
I paid $9000 for my pulsar thermal and after 7 months the internal battery failed so took it back to Hunting and thieving while it was still under warranty and they've sent it to Lithuania and it's been gone over 3 months now and could take 4 months, bloody ridiculous after sales service.
Your contract is with H&F not Pulsar so tell H&F to replace it under the consumer protection act and they can sort it out with pulsar - but that is not your problem
Great vid guys. What is the battery life like? Would it last 2-3 hrs with recording? Does it have 2 batteries? I see it says bat 1 and bat2 on the bottom.
Battery one is a internal battery for the scope to do all ya range finds and other options and battery 2 is to run the scope You’ll normally get 4-5 hours on battery being in sleep mode and recording here and there
you don't need the eyepiece at those distances really, helps to have the eyepiece if you're up close and don't want the scope lighting your face up which spooks some weary ones. I sometimes stalk to 5-10m with my thermal so use the eyepiece
Honestly mate we are just getting the hang of using it. Seemed to be fine without it but like the other reply to you comment said it was probably because we were shooting from a bit of a distance.
I had some problems using the Winchester super X through my 7mm08 as the bullets were seated completely different from each other when through 3 boxes all the same.
People value hunting wild deer for sport and to harvest venison. But, unless their numbers are managed, wild deer can damage native plants - in some places they threaten how ecosystems function. DEER IN NEW ZEALAND ARE NOT NATURAL AND DONT HAVE PREDATORS. everyone needs to have an open mind. Here in the states we need tags so we don't overharvest. In new Zealand they have depredation tags to manage numbers. Its all legal and scientific based. Seven species of deer have been established in the wild in New Zealand: Red deer (Cervus elaphus scoticus) Wapiti (C.elaphus nelsoni) Sika deer (C. nippon) Sambar (C. unicolor) Russa deer (C. timorensis) Fallow deer (Dama dama) White-tailed deer (Odocoileus virginianus) In New Zealand, deer have no natural predators. This means they can grow to large numbers without the support of hunters and others to aid in their management. Deer populations have been building over the past couple of decades across the country. This is because they have been harvested at a lower level than their breeding rate. As numbers have increased, deer have moved into new areas to search for food. Deer damage native forests by feeding on forest plants, trees, and seedlings. They start with the native plants they prefer most such as schefflera, broadleaf, and hen and chicken fern in forest understory's. Then they will move on to plants they like less. This can result in large groups of deer mainly eating falling leaves from canopy trees. In subalpine areas, deer can damage tall tussocks and wildflowers like alpine buttercups. By targeting these plants deer can change their composition of plants. This takes vital food and shelter from other animals. Over time this can hinder or stop forest regeneration. Managing wild deer to reverse these effects will help protect native species and increase forests' health and resilience in dealing with climate change. www.doc.govt.nz/nature/pests-and-threats/animal-pests-and-threats/deer/
NZ is over-run with pest populations of deer, tahr, pigs, goats & possums and hunters who don't contribute to pest control. But complain bitterly when the government tries to save a few areas from being severely modified by overbrowsing and tracking etc. Plenty of "pest control" managers and operators demonstrate their prowess by perpetrating the ongoing nature of excessive pest numbers, and in some cases attempting to mollify teh noise from the 90% of "hunters" who are a waste of space for any positive pest control (but have every right to participate in sporting hunting when & where legal).
The high end high quality ones are definitely not cheap. I think the scope is around $9,500 on the gun city website so not something most people can afford. But I suppose for the people that do have that kind of money it’s a pretty cool bit of kit. We are stoked to get to use it as sponsorship to see what it’s like.

Don’t need one in NZ for private land.
Enter your ballistic data into the app and Bluetooth it to your scope, you will.have automatic holdover marks appear on your reticle
