    Great shot great team work. Haven't seen a 14 for a while now. Just a mention, I usually cape my animals lying on their back starting from front left or right leg just above the hoof. Cut slide all way down stopping just before before rear legs do same on other front leg stopping opposite from other cut. The longer the better for taxidermist to work with. From there cut a full horizontal cut around the beast until the cuts meet. Finally totally skin all way back up towards the head until you decide where you want to make the final head cut. Thats my way not to say yours is wrong because the taxidermist will surely stitch cover your tracks. Just how I was taught by a taxidermist hunting mate 45 years ago still doing it today. That goes for all my animals goats pigs deer. Great video guys. Enjoy them all. Go safe.

    • @clarkeboyshunting
      @clarkeboyshunting  ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks for that. Yea we don’t really know what we are doing. But the taxidermist seems to think he would be able to make it work so that was good to hear. Can’t wait to see the finished product!

      Maybe these guys dont worry about meat recovery unfortunately otherwise they would've added it to the story or at least answered you. Often a big animal goes in the to hard basket which is a shame.

    • @clarkeboyshunting
      @clarkeboyshunting  2 ปีที่แล้ว +26

      Yes we did take the meat from this animal but not all of it as we couldn’t carry everything. Also we don’t really show the meat butchering in any of our videos anymore as TH-cam often age restricts or bans our videos that show blood and guts. It’s stupid but if this happens then nobody gets to see our videos.

    Btw just to let people outside New Zealand know, Deer are not native to our country and Red deer are considered the most damaging to the environment due to them being bloody everywhere and impact to vegetation. There are no natural predators and they are very difficult to control their numbers even with hunting !
    Some say they are worse than possums!

    • @petermaguire1490
      @petermaguire1490 2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      As a North American hunter who is also a NZ resident, I appreciate that tremendous effort and risk to take that beautiful animal. I also appreciate that those deer are non native "pests" in NZ and that for years, they have been culled just to control the numbers. But here in NA, that kind of animal is a rare gift and opportunity, and to not use every gram of that meat...well its kind of difficult to fathom. Here in NA, shooting and killing is only half the hunt. Retrieving and utilizing the meat is the real work and real reward. That is what separates the men from boys and the catered to fat asses that shoot for the antlers alone. I understand the cultural differences, but its still hard to accept. I hope you went back for that meat and realize how lucky you are there. This year in Colorado, legally, I can take only 1 cow elk by rifle in a single 5 day season. That is all I'll be entitled to legally for the whole year in the state I live in, hunting with a rifle. I'll have no opportunity to hunt deer or antelope because I did not draw a license in the lottery system. To see meat like that wasted is a shame I hope you'll never realize in NZ

    • @clarkeboyshunting
      @clarkeboyshunting  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I hear what you are saying Peter and in your circumstances I would probably think the same as you. However it is a different situation here where deer are considered a pest. Every year thousands of deer are culled and poisoned just to keep numbers in check. Obviously we were not trying to cull numbers in this video but I suppose it gives you a bit of context to why some animals aren’t completely utilised but hunters in NZ. We did take the best cuts of meat but not the whole thing. With big old animals in hard to access places like this we do sometimes leave some of the animal. If we want a meat animal we would shoot a younger closer deer. Our preference is always to take as much meat as we can from every animal.

    • @petermaguire1490
      @petermaguire1490 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@clarkeboyshunting Thanks for taking time to reply, I appreciate that. And I do appreciate the cultural/situational differences even more with your explanation. I know a govt paid hunter in NZ. I asked him about this and he echoed your comments. Thanks again.

    • @keeganluchte3532
      @keeganluchte3532 ปีที่แล้ว

      I was wondering the same thing. Our game department lines out exactly what is required by law to take from the animal. There are a few exceptions which in my mind should change, but we’ll see if that day ever comes. You guys should get some real hunting packs and come hunt the United States. You guys would tear it up and make a joke of the rednecks who don’t venture far from the roads! The only country over here in any shape or form similar to that in NZ would probably be Alaska. Looks like some gnarly stuff!

      In our country deer are considered a pest by the government and every year thousands are shot or poisoned by helicopters to keep numbers down. We like to take as much meat as we can carry but there are times when we don’t take the whole animal.

      Don’t really show the meat cutting up etc. as TH-cam age restricts the videos for being too shocking🤦‍♂️

    Good job young boys! Did you bring the meat? If not, what a waste and it's not fair for one to die for nothing.

    What a stag. Be the best back drop to a stag photo. Well done boys! If you do not take the meat and just the head, what do you say???

    • @clarkeboyshunting
      @clarkeboyshunting  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      We did take the best cuts of meat but not the whole thing as deer are considered a pest in NZ with high numbers. With big old animals in hard to access places like this we do sometimes leave some of the animal and shoot a younger closer deer as a meat animal. Our preference is to take as much meat as we can from every animal as it doesn’t seem so wasteful.

      @@clarkeboyshunting Awesome Bro, I'm in Whanganui so I know the deer populations around NZ are prolific. Beauty of a stag. Once in a life time head for some. "Up the Clarky boys" keep the footage coming!
