You gotta press lightly and let the abrasive to the majority of the work. The holder I used contains the cratex bit a little better, makes it last longer. Between rows, it's possible to dress up the mushroomed out part for fresher material.
Jeweling was originally used just for it’s ability to retain lubricant on metal parts in military aircraft applications. It was so pretty that many guys started doing to civilian guns because of its attractive finish.
If no one is going to see parts of the bolt, then why go through the time and work of jeweling those parts that wont be seen? I'm not criticizing you ... I'm asking in a legitimate way
