  • This talk was given at a local TEDx event, produced independently of the TED Conferences. Mallence Bart-Williams introduced her second home Sierra Leone and its talented people, who are part of her project FOLORUNSHO. Find out more via www.tedxberlin.de
Mallence Bart-Williams was born in Cologne, Germany. She is a Sierra Leonean writer and filmmaker and a German fashion designer. She pursued her studies in economics and finance in Paris, Singapore, and Great Britain. Today she lives across the globe, produces an all-natural cosmetics line in Hong Kong, and is the founder and creative director of the Freetown-based creative collective FOLORUNSHO, a ‘SHARITY’ that she initiated with street kids in Sierra Leone.
Due to her German-Sierra Leonean roots she perceives herself as a bridge connecting two vastly different worlds. Her diverse background enables her to see creative solutions to common problems. Within their three years of operation, her collective has taken homeless children off the streets and into school, developed a sneaker and clothing collection, published a book and documentary of their story, and has held fine art exhibitions. Through her work with FOLORUNSHO she connects cultural contrast, enabling people to share ideas, take action, and get results.
About TEDx, x = independently organized event In the spirit of ideas worth spreading, TEDx is a program of local, self-organized events that bring people together to share a TED-like experience. At a TEDx event, TEDTalks video and live speakers combine to spark deep discussion and connection in a small group. These local, self-organized events are branded TEDx, where x = independently organized TED event. The TED Conference provides general guidance for the TEDx program, but individual TEDx events are self-organized.* (*Subject to certain rules and regulations)

This really encourages me that we can succeed and be first again. I'm glad she didn't mention the three letter word! G*D! That is worst than the four letter words. Because they stole Our Goddess (Woman) and made a God (man). There are the sex changes in the bible! And what? It's written: on Our Spirit and Our Spirit is truth and real.

The words of this woman give me chills. She is so calm, collected and spirited in every sentence she articulated.
Let us have more of the western population be invited into her ideas & understanding her perpective. She said the truth.
I live in a young & progressive country with a more than 500 years history of being colonies 4 major powers of the past & present. No doubt that we are doing a whole lot better than Sierra Leone, there remains elements in society & nature are not in place as they should have been. The west continue to dictate what is good & what is bad according to their perpective; lots of times without regard to our domestic situation.
      Well done Mallence !

@@davidm7740, thank you for sharing this. It is too sad for words. I find that all across this beautiful planet of ours, those who see themselves as more worthy than the rest are always pitting people against each other to take eyes off those who are really propegating the suffering. Here in America our news is carefully screened, although Americans don't know this. We only get international news if someone here is profiting from it. I had no idea the extent of what is happening in Africa.

Nzings Dee, that is not how demographic transition works. As your standard of living rises your birth rate will inevitably drop off. As small a thing as a pension system can dramatically reduce birthrate. On the other hand, countries with a lot of conflicts and high level of poverty will almost always have a high birthrate.
It is not about some mysterious force but logic, a high standard of living and a safe society means that almost all children will survive to adulthood and a healthy pension system means that that you do not have to rely on your children take care of you when get to old to work.
There is also a tendency that after a conflict the birthrate will rise, like the baby-boomers after the second world war.

Mallence is truly the example of a Goddess whom cares for mother earth and humanity.

Please don’t refer to anyone as goddess. It is a sin. Only God is God. No goddess. Goddess don’t exist.
What this woman did is good. But don’t refer to anyone as goddess.

I've watched this video over and over. This woman is so inspiring; a true queen herlself. She said it all with such a grace and courage. This would definitely be a completely different world if there were more humans like this Lioness . Bless her heart and her dignity! Brilliant speech!

There is so much sincerity, love, giftedness & consciousness screaming through you that even the comments about you have to bow to your elegance and sophistication! You bring a whole other level of meaning to Martin Luther King’s quote...”let us conduct our struggle on the high plain of discipline and dignity!” Mallence, you are proof of Sierra Leone’s riches, all by yourself! Thank you! 🙏🏽😇🌏

Lady what in the world are you talking about? Why are you invoking Martin Luther king?
How about commenting on the meaning of what she's saying instead of useless flattery

A what now?! Race traitor??? The hell is that! Ain't no such thing in my world. I'm not familiar with the dictionary of the racists. And there's no 'we' darling. Me and you we most certainly don't have anything in common. Unlike you, the color of my skin does not define whom I feel sympathy and love for and for whom I don't.

    • @parnianx
      @parnianx 7 ปีที่แล้ว +14

You're worse than him if you think somebody's "blood" makes them say such nonsense. This is certainly a successful example of racist parents brainwashing their child to grow into an adult with such narrow minded perspective, not god or satan or any of that okay? I have the same skin color and I feel 180 degrees different from this man. Stop making this about blood, and stop using this argument to suit your own agenda.
