For 28 years I have had honesty with during my service to customers and jobs and waiting on people.And during my working for corporations I was honest to my employers and as a employee I learned to begin my work and finish my work for assignments and then get paid.I retired with this honesty and still have honesty for I have not taken from anybody any money ever.I earned what I worked for the 28 years I worked.I treated customers good and on the job and away from the job.
Honesty means being in profitable position, you never take direct or indirect advantage of it... And integrity means keeping your values integrated in adverse situations...
I am retired now and have honesty but I am not perfect.Honesty with people yes I am because I do not do people wrong.I interact with people human beings good.I don't treat people wrong.
By simply displaying integrity doesn't mean you have integrity, that concept is easily decievable. My opinioun is that integrity is in your mind and anybody who claims otherwise is time wasted. Althought, i experienced the integrity displayed in this video on a workplace, it is shallow and fragile. Real integrity comes from within and it's either in or out, there's no reefer,
I don't think of honesty as being 'honest' or 'not honest' as a person. I believe it has varying degrees, as nobody is honest all the time. Sometimes it is white lies, or sometimes we are not honest with ourselves (seems to be the most common!) Integrity however is more complicated. I suppose you are correct to an extent, integrity is determined by how we are perceived by others....however, that is assuming that the others are educated and understand what integrity is. In today's world, by that definition, we would say that many celebrities have 'integrity' merely because we view them a certain way, which is tainted by the media, etc. In the same way, one can have integrity not recognized by those around them, if the others have inferior values. Until we can agree on 'values', integrity will continue to be subjective.
Carpo719 thank you for your comments. I agree, this subject is a very difficult one to talk about as there are so many variables to consider. At least it can bring about a good discussion and let's see if we can bring back a few common 'values' to society.
Think of yourself as a football player. You are off side and you are free to score a goal but the referee has not noticed and there is no whistle. You could go ahead and score the goal. A player of high integrity who knows that he was of offside might just release the ball and get shouted at by his team players and coach 😊
