Hi guys, when watching the part of the meal, as a Vietnam I wanna explain something to make it clear to guys who did, or are doing, or will do traveling by motorbike in Vietnam.
1- The meat in that bowl is duck (it's a big duck leg), not chicken, not dog meat. That is a bowl of noodle soup, cooked with duck meat, bamboo shoot, and some other things.
2- Many foreigners have a heavy impression that Vietnamese cuisine is featured strange meat, strange food, and even terrible food, such as dog meat. That's WRONG. Vietnamese cuisine is featured by its diversity, a wide range of food based on the long shape of the country, from north to south with different climate and geography patterns also the diversity of ethnic components of each community, which brings diversity in the food ingredients, and focused on diversity, creative usage of mixtures of local spicy, herbals, in combination with kinds of plants cleverly.
Why don't you know that we have many dishes made of flowers? (currently, it's counted 272 dishes, made of 43 kinds of flowers, and will be increased more when exploring minor communities in remote regions). It also tastes quite different when people cook from south to north, e.g.: south people prefer the sweet, and sour, coastal central region like salty, sour, hot spicy, and north people tend to fatty, and savory. The central region tends to use heavier, less dilute fish sauce, and the northern region like to use more MSG. (This has a reason of history, when the northern region suffered a long-time shortage in supply, especially protein supply, hence using glutamate is the easy, fast way to get the taste of umami instead of animal protein. And they continue their habit till today, with heavily adding MSG when cooking, especially in food shops)
3 - When you choose your route, you have to understand that: all the good chefs/cooks want to do business in crow communities like cities, and towns, hence you will easily get good food in urban areas than in rural areas. The similar issue with other facilities (conventional shops, commercial businesses, ATMs, coffee shops,...). The exception is the 4G telecom system (meaning the internet connection). If you choose to travel through the remote region, you have to accept that the food there will not be as good as in the city/town, except when you are invited to join a feast such as a host invite you to their home, or a wedding ceremony, or a worship ceremony of the minor ethnic community,.... because when you are a guest, the host will do all the best with all the best ingredient foods for a special event to satisfy your stomach as our hospitality tradition.
4-For the issue of strange meat, strange food like dog meat, snake meat, frog meat, mouse meat,...as someone said Vietnamese can eat everything non-toxic, from top to tail. It has a reason for history. Maybe you don't know more than 2 million Vietnamese died of starvation in the period of invasion by Japanese fascists (total pop. of Vietnam 1945: approx. 20 mil). And maybe you don't mind that Vietnam suffered more than half of a century to be deep in wars in the 20th century. Hence, Vietnamese can eat many things. Something that is originally toxic but becomes non-toxic after some treatments can also be our food. There're some tips about those foods. As further as the road from the south to the north, you will easier see dog meat (it's more popular in the northern region than in the central and southern regions. Maybe the reason is the northern region suffered the worse starving situation in past time). Frog meat: people think of it as chicken meat. Mouse meat: the rice-paddy mouse, or coconut mouse, or even Vietnamese ginseng mouse. They are not the dirty mice in the city. So, mouse meat is clean and has good taste, for protein supply, and for protection of the crop. With special mouse meat like ginseng mouse meat, you have to be a respectful guest of the host in case to be invited to eat it.
Everything is changing, including trends in food, also the continuous creation of new dishes from Vietnamese vendors and chefs, in addition to the dish modification of Vietnamese mothers in their kitchens.
5-Some people like to eat vegetarian foods. Normally, you can easy to have vegetarian food shops near the pagodas - they are open every day to serve the Budhisist people who come to visit the pagoda every day. Additionally, many Vietnamese people, especially in central regions and southern regions, eat vegetarian food on the first, middle, and end days of the lunar month. You will easier to get vegetarian food shops on the normal streets at that time.

The food you guys ate at the end of the video is chicken noodle soup with half a chicken for two people (2 best part more expensive). I think is not expensive because chicken in the countryside is wild chicken and Vietnamese people prefer to eat wild chicken over farmed chicken so it can be 3 times expensive more than farmed chicken, wild chicken meat is tougher because they running a lot and not eating industry food.
And boiled eggs you should peel the shell and dip with salt .It is quite simple and bland but you can avoid stomach pain when eating strange dishes, tourists in vietnam often eat this dish.
Many countryside in Vietnam the price can be more expensive than the city because they eat clean and self-sufficient food and many people have same demand that's why its expensive . For example, a breed of chicken called "Đông Tảo chicken" can be up to 5000USD a chicken in Vietnam. To be honest i don't think the price in viet nam is cheap. Because different of food quality.
A lot of dangers on your journey. Even i'm a Vietnamese but I never dare to go like you guys. Safe travel and best wishes to both of you ( sr for my english )

Most of the buildings with yellow paint on the outside in the jungle or such places (or in whole VN) like this at 19:10 were the offices of the ''border polices'' or '' law enforcements''. In the middle building ( on top) u can also see the ''red star''. That's also one of the signs of a gorvement building of property. Funny to see that I rode the exact some route 6 months ago. 27:00 2 you choose to go this route is an area of ethnic minorities, so their food + taste is a bit different from ours, but the plate of boiled eggs + the thing wrapped in the other leaf might be Cha, a dish made from pureed meat, if it's well cooked, it's delicious, 2 egg dishes & Cha is a side dish, how much you eat, you will pay more, if you don't eat it, you won't charge you

I was meant to say “make shit out of” as their electrical system is just something else over there🫠everything is pretty much made out of bamboo😂

Was 150cc the largest size bike you could rent? I understand you need an international drivers license for a bigger bike.
