    A note as I'm doing this here in 2024 is when you select "All" for Extents during creation of the hole, the Drill Point option goes away.

    • @Kralasaurusx
      @Kralasaurusx 3 หลายเดือนก่อน +3

      Yeah that threw me off too. I guess it makes sense though because the option has no effect when selecting "All" for extent anyways, so they must have removed it intentionally to make it more clear that it doesn't affect anything.

      Yes exactly! I was like "why on earth would I want to offset the thread beyond the chamfer..." great illustration of the potential gap between designers and manufacturers. Thread tapping 101: drill the hole, cut the chamfer, tap the thread.

    • @jonnieZG
      @jonnieZG 7 หลายเดือนก่อน

      So basically, the Fusion 360 Hole feature is wrong when making a thread on a countersunk hole (Countersink + Tapped)? I did mine by making a simple tapped hole and substracting a cone with 14mm diameter x 7mm high from the middle of the screw.

    I'm not sure what's the bug here, but this hex nut will not work as the thread is not open to the chamfer. At 7:05 you even close the "colliding side" which would be the only open side. Is this a bug in Fusion360 or how can you create a working thread with this tool?😀
    Except for this, I like your videos a lot!

    • @pretzelbro
      @pretzelbro 11 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I noticed this too! I think I found a work around.
      When you create the threaded hole, don't choose Countersink but leave it Simple, then afterward, as a separate step, chamfer each edge of the hole. But, because the threads are in the way you wont be able to select the round edges of the hole to chamfer it. So, you have to set the Thread depth to 9.8mm then Offset by 0.1mm (1/2 of hole length minus thread depth), then you will be able to select each edge of the hole and chamfer it.

    • @MaPf818
      @MaPf818 11 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      @@pretzelbro to create a working thread, you can also create a simple thread (without counter sink) and afterwards put a chamfer on the edge. To get the chamfer you can rotate a triangle on both sides like done for the outer edges before.

    • @willd7033
      @willd7033 8 หลายเดือนก่อน +3

      You can also just run the hole twice. Once as a simple hole with the chamfer. Then do another hole with just the threads. This cuts the threads through the chamfer.

    Just a heads up if your cutout is not producing the expected result. You should have a flat edge of the hex body facing front when you do the projection. If you have an angle facing front it will place the projection in the center of that edge. You'll need to revolve the hex body along the Z axis by 30 deg otherwise the cutout will not work correctly.

    Thanks for some great lessons / Tutorials, I am learning so much! I have to pause or slow down the video often though to catch up, but well that is not a problem. :) About making the thread - I am guessing Fusion 360 was updated since this video, since when doing the thread the Drill Point option was not there just now when doing the Hex Nut. I double and triple checked that I followed all instructions, and while everything else was there, just that one option was not. The end result was however the same. I guess maybe Autodesk removed or moved one of the choices, and made the flat etc. standard?

    I can't help but noticing that the thread should be colliding with/cuutting through the hole chamfer, actually. If the thread is not cutting through all the length of the material you can't put this nut on the bolt, stud or whatnot. Shortened thread looks better on the screen but it is not usable in the real world. It was also the same mistake with the coke bottle thread.
    Despite this little criticism, your course is really good. The format of short bite-sized videos provides excellent delivery and you don't waste viewer's time on intros and all the small talk and beatring around the bush.

      @JACQUELINERODRIGUEZ-yi2 It sounds like you didn't snap the angle line to close the profile. The shape should turn blue when it is a closed profile. Hide the body to see if your shape turns blue. Go back and watch every step he does! You have to watch his pointer carefully. He;s not hiding anything. It's all on the video. Slow the playback speed down,to .75 or even .o5. to help you follow each step. That setting on you tube, is under settings (Star shaped symbol, 5th symol from the right on the bottom of the screen.if you didn't know that). I'm a beginner too. Thanks for sharing the image! I still see it on the Commercial license. I've reached out to someone at Autodesk to see if this is intentional or a bug. Will report back here if/when I hear back. :)

      I don't have the Thread features on the hole option as well as the drill point. Is this part of the same bug as well? Because of this, I do not have an offset option while adding a thread.@@ProductDesignOnline

    Am I mistaken, or does Fusion 360's countersink hole threads not quite right?
    If you compare the thread that Fusion generates with that of a real nut and look closely, what you'll find is that the topmost thread carves out a portion of the countersink so that the screw threads can pass cleanly. Fusion's countersink threading on the other hand makes the countersink a perfectly conical cutout such that where the thread meets the countersink, it's impossible for the screw thread to pass through until the screw physically cuts out a groove the very first time it passes through.
    When people 3D print threads like this, maybe they chalk it up to print tolerance when the screw doesn't fit cleanly (at first) but AFAICT it's actually that Fusion 360 is just wrong with the way it abruptly ends the threading at the countersink, failing to carve out the final stretch of the thread into the countersink.
    If you don't believe me, try changing the hole type to "simple" and then do the countersink manually by carving out a cone from the center of the nut, and notice how the thread differs from Fusion's countersink threading in that it extends into the countersink.
