I am 66 yrs old and retired from nursing 1 year ago. I realized there are a lot of things I don't want or need anymore such as china and knicknacks I've accumulated from relatives. Also, I too do not buy high heels or fancy clothes unless absolutely necessary and
I'm trying not to buy anymore eyeshadow palettes or foundations etc... I stopped buying new seasonal decorations a few years ago and like you said, no one is seeing them anyway. I have donated, given away or sold things just to clear out the clutter. You know when a woman is pregnant and goes through the "nesting" period? Well I'm un-nesting as I get older. L.O.L. Congratulations on your 103,000 subscribers, you deserve it.

You have been such a great inspiration and friend... I'm a full time caregiver of my 95 year old mom... Days are so long, but I turn you on and it heals my heart to bring back some normalcy to my day.. I too have been inspired to cut back and start enjoying my days... It saddens me to watch my mom look at herself in the mirror and cringe as the wrinkles flow down her face... This has been a reality check for me that no matter what you put on your face, that life deals you with wrinkles to show that you have years of wisdom to share... I believe these days of covid has caused us all to stop and smell the roses.. Thank you for sharing your life with us. ..

I understand this all too well. My Dad became very ill after the loss of my only child. His heart was so broken, literally. My Mom couldn't handle it alone so I gave up my job and practically moved in with them. Seeing my Dad age so rapidly was a nightmare. He passed on what would have been my sons 30th bday...My Mom went just 2 days later. Like you, I cherish each and every bit of caring for them. It truly opened my eyes to seeing "the little things" a whole lot clearer and with much more appreciation. Thanks for sharing your story with us.💕

I am with you, I am sick of being a warehouse for junk!!!!!!!! let the stores keep it until I need it. I only buy now when I am using the last of a product! after my spouse passed away I spent the first 3 years donating things away and on year 3 I started to donate my stuff away, I had over 30 high in boots like dear skin boots worth several hundred and I have donated all but 2 pairs of boots away! you should have seen the peoples eyes when I donate they are always saying are you sure? they tell me I could sell things for good money, but I do not want strangers coming to my house!!! and I know GOD will reward me for being not greedy! I just think of someone enjoying my donations!!!! puts a smile on my heart!

Patti, I know what you're saying!! I feel like quarantining has changed my life view in many positive ways. It has allowed me to "get off the merry-go-round" of buying, going, doing and I feel so liberated!!! I would never have recognized how tired I was and how inappropriate many things had become. I am not far behind you at 72 yrs of living and my whole perspective has changed with the introspection of quarantine. It has been a relief! My husband has serious health issues and I have been caregiver for the past 7 years. I have come to realize my inner self and
outer self no longer matched and I have been changing my habits to reflect where and who I am now. I gave up heels several years ago, do my own nails since covid, and am no longer interested in buying clothes other than basics. I have cleaned out cosmetics and skincare and donated piles of it. I enjoy looking at jewelry but have what I need and have given much to younger friends. My home is decorated to my taste and I have no interest in change. One of my greatest pleasures is sitting on the back porch watching the birds with my husband. I limit my consumption of news and life is peaceful. Life is simpler and I am better and most grateful.

What a beautiful place to be in life!! Im 53. Been through a lot in my 53 years. The hubby and I sold "the big house,in Florida and bought a tiny cabin deep into the woods on a mountain in Kentucky. That was the beginning of my purge. I LOVE the idea of donating what you were not using. I know of a battered womens shelter fairly close to our home. So, todays the day where all of the clothes, UNUSED creams, shoes and UNOPENED makeup goes!! Im so ashamed of myself for buying all these things that I ended up not even using. The idea of giving these things to someone who will use it makes me feel somewhat better. Thanks so much for sharing your great idea!!!💕💄 We women need to build one another up. I just discovered you. You are amazing and you aren’t pushing any brand! Thank you for that. I am 70. About 3 years ago I began to unpack my parents stuff that was boxed up in 2003. There were items from my mom’s early life and most of it has no use in today’s life style. There were eye shadow pallets from my high school days and just SO much! It was then I realized it was insanity to keep these things. My kids don’t want them and my memories are in my heart - I don’t need anything to remember. I also realized that I had more than enough of everything! Since then I have been downsizing my life. I have kept 1 pair of heels bc I need to be stronger to let them go. 😂 You are speaking to ME! Thanks!

I really needed to see this video and so enjoyed it. I’m 74 and was widowed, after 50 yrs, 4 years ago. We both had been retired and living our easy lifestyle. We raised 4 wonderful children who have given us 7all beautiful grands and they all do well for themselves. Life was so good! Having just had a broken water pipe in a wall and going through home repairs I’ve learned how much “stuff” I have accumulated the past 30 years in this house that I don’t use or need. This has been a good time for me to learn how to clean out my closets (and under beds!). Donations made to hurricane victims and charitable organizations.Congratulations to your lifestyle changes and best wishes for a blessed Thanksgiving and Christmas season to you and yours!

I just discovered your channel and love it. As a 73 year old, I have also cut down on many purchases and have also started going through the house and slowly started donating many items we no longer want or need. Holiday decorations were the first to be culled. We now have two table top trees instead of a large tree for Christmas. An added bonus is that we don’t need as many decorations. A big disappointment is all our crystal and China. Not only don’t we use it, none of our children or grandchildren want it either. People don’t entertain like that anymore. And, while it cost us so much money to buy, there is almost no market to sell it.

I am older too and live in Florida so I know about the casual laid back clothes and way of life. I know about wrinkles and skincare products and all the things you had on your list. I too loved high heels and felt sad when it was time to give them up. I have found I'm more comfy without them. I have given up buying slot of extra sheets and towels and linens. I always had too much. I have more room in linen closet now. I have scaled back on ever thing. It actually feels good. Enjoy you so much keep doing what you are doing and I think you look great.

So, to answer your question, I have committed to using up all the expensive skin care products piled up on my face, neck, arms, & body. There’s too much and I’m not going to add to the pile. Also, am culling my wardrobe from the business professional and social dressy to the more casual lifestyle of my life now. Got rid of all the unused makeu, & am working my way thru what’s left! Thanks for the encouragement!

After I retired I held on to business dress clothes for a while, maybe six months. When I did a realistic culling of what I was no longer wearing I contacted a friend who had donated her business clothes to a charity that provided interview clothes to women in shelters. I contacted them and arranged a drop off. Good decision, I’ve never looked back. I quit wearing high heels way before that as I had foot and knee problems that high kneels made scream. It’s been many years since then and I’m happy with casual clothes, with a couple dressy outfits set aside for the rare occasion I need them,. I have sensitive skin and have always had a simple skincare routine. I am 69 and my life in California is casual and easy. After COVID we may do another cruise and I may pull out those dressy clothes. Until then, jeans and T shirts with earrings and some eyeshadow, and mascara are enough with a mask.

Like you, my life changed A LOT after 45. I recently turned 60 & was widowed at 50, raised 5 kids hre in the same house 33 years now. A few years ago I realized I've held onto too much I'm just not ever going to wear or use again, so it's been purge time for me for 3 years now !!
Cocktail dresses, short white fur coat (now where would I ever wear that?), miserable shoes pretty to look at but torture on my spine, pants with waists that feel like a 1930's girdle or something, lingerie that is for a woman 20 to 40 years younger than I, gobs of tupperware specialty type containers for big events, cocktail glasses, 14 spatulas, 15 screwdrivers, old paint, sheets sets for sizes of beds I don't have anymore, jewelry too hard to get on by myself, then the makeup, hair care & tools, gadgets, lotions & potions..so many pantyhose. I just keep weeding it down but it never seems to end. I want to purge as much as possible because I don't want to leave a mess for my kids to have to go through one day, should I die suddenly. It wouldn't be fair to do that to anyone.... so I soldier on...(lol)
Surveying every closet, drawer, cabinet, garage, storage room made me realize if I down sized, as many do once their kids are grown up & gone, I would need to seriously decrease my "stuff" anyway. So around 50 I about stopped buying anything I didn't truly NEED. I began to ask myself (before every purchase) "Oh come on now, do you really need that or do you just WANT it?"
If I just want it, most the time I don't get it, but IF the 'WANT' is intense enough to buy it, the deal I've made with myself is; if I bring one new item home, I HAVE TO get rid of 2 items. The problem always has been & still is ; it's hard to get rid of thongs that are still in great condition & if I paid a lot for something, the degree of difficulty parting with it goes up exponentially. If it's a sentimental item, I take a picture of it, often that;'s enough to quell my reluctance to part with it. (It helps to know I can still SEE that stuffed toy monkey from my Aunt Marianne when I was 10). I also try to find others who can use these things that way I don;t feel they'll go to a dump somewhere & it is nice knowing someone will get use out of them.
Even though I always went through our belongings once or twice a year, there is still so much to get rid of or sell.
To anyone young, just starting out in life, select carefully everything you buy or bring into your house because possessions begin to own you and your time much more than you own them. Every knick knack has to be dusted, anything real leather takes extra work, cleaning & conditioning each year, each boat, snow mobile, air fryer, each piece of jewelry ,,..anything takes money and time to maintain, space to keep it in, bigger house means more time vacuuming, mopping. Be careful what you wish for, we older foljs have learned simpler is better.

I have cleaned out my closets, drawers, etc. Condensing down to classic styles in shirts and dresses (when I do need to wear one) my plan is to buy one casual and dressy outfit per season, right now, I only need it for summer. Winter will be sweaters (light, as I live in Texas). So I am with you sister.

We recently made the move to the beach in Puerto Rico. I did get rid of a lot of winter clothes, but I cannot give up skin care, makeup and my pretty summer clothes. The day I don't care about my hair, nails and what I wear is the day I 'give up' on life. I can't imagine not caring about what I wear to the store - or heck, even to the mailbox. That's what keeps me vibrant.

Quarantine got me in high gear for a "Swedish death cleaning" I had kitchen gadgets I never used, and were so odd looking I didn't even know what they were used for! A 3-car garage with no work space, because of clutter on the work benches. A closet FULL of 3 different sizes of clothing, not only mine, but my late Mom and Sis's "stuff". All are now cleaned except for some clothing items I can't make up my mind about.....Our local Humane Society will benefit.....and now I must go back to the closet for an hour of de cluttering (I limit it to a hour at a time, it keeps me on a schedule) Your video made me feel like "I'm not the ONLY one".......Thanks
