I know that place - it's a breakers? They aren't abandoned at all, just down the track on the left are some sheds and a workshop. The bloke that runs it is a great lad. He has pretty much any part you need for a rangie and will deliver it or you can collect. I've been there twice now picking up an engine and some other bits. It's an actual place of business and he does loads of business from there. It's hardly a mystery?

Seeing this and thinking of the retail values today makes me realise how lucky we were in the early seventies and late sixties. Series one Landrovers could be had for thirty quid needing work, and I bought an Austin Champ for £210 in 1972. £1500 to the taxpayer in 1951,thats fifty grand in todays money (google it). This Champ had 25,000 miles on the clock four wheel drive an all synchro gearbox,(in those days unheard of) and an engine desighned by Rolls Royce, although built by Austin at Cofton Hacket, wherever that was.We never found out.
Ex Squaddies abounded in those days including superanuated ones of indetermined rank so we were always getting ribbed. 'You kids will turn that B - - - - - thing over and kill yourselves,The back axles are mince,Nine Miles to the Gallon'
Fortunately for us our Champ was reletively trouble free barring a clutch(Austin Gypsy Fitted) and did twenty to the gallon when driven sensibly, not always done, wonder I am nearly seventy. The engine was awsome,a thing of wonder.
One German Mechanic, who had served in the Werhmacht was astounded, when he read in the handbook not to remove the head until the car had done 100,000 miles. Most vehicles then had a decoke every thirty or so.
We drove all over The Central Belt and West Coast of Scotland in that Champ and had frequent visits over the border to places like Blackpool where our mate came from, and Bolton wher was to be found Hughie McGovern Part Time Lorry Driver and Austin Champ Specialist.
And Yes He Was English ! With a name like that,Hughie should have been a Scot !

As I though, this is unsold/excess stock from the factory as they haven't been registered with the DVLA and this is the cheap way of storing and forgetting about them. It would be interesting to see if the land is owned/registered by anyone, as it could be claimed by someone else who secures the gate if it's not.

They've been scrapped, the reg wont show on DVLA no more.

Has to be a place where the factory is putting them. Maybe it is ones that couldn't get fixed at the dealership so range Rover had to take them back?

I love the P38 but only 167,259 of them were made but since I saw this I've started to wonder how many are still on the road and they were really unreliable as well

Well, I have two of them and I know of several others. Not exactly common here in BC but not rare either.

And they still are with newer models, engine problems suspension, egr, the list goes on but the build quality of the structure and skin is excellent

WOW, thank you for taking the time to film this IN THAT WEATHER. You're points about the cost of running these vehicles are pretty much spot on to my mind. For sure very sad, again cheers.

Fkn nightmare to work on ,the engine has to come out for most jobs, and those fancy adjustable shocks are insanely shite.

Exaggeration! There are still thousands on the road.
The company breaking these is obviously making lots of money. That would be so if none were left on the road 😉

Mmmm, which p38 to choose 🤔 OK? It's probably the one that doesn't bong...... 😉. I would say that's a tidy collection they have even allowed space to open doors without hitting the one next door ... at least now I can tell my wife that I don't have many projects lying in wait 😇🤣

They are not just dumped. SA real person has a business, making money from the parts. Yeah, I agree not very scenic to most but it brings sightsee-ers in! Go along the road a bit and visit the little old chapel and Trisant lake. It's a lovely area.
