There's no way I could leave those cars sitting like that. I am a law abiding citizen but these cars deserve better than this. It's probably a pick n pull parts place but the bodies on these cars look like they are ready for restoration. If I could win the lottery it wouldn't pay me to find a place like this because I'd buy everything, even the property.
@boostedsil40 They were 150bhp and while not the fastest car around they were an underrated car and a decent drive. Some purists would say it wasn't a 'proper' RS though.
Chilli Sauce no it was not at all, it was a replica; the exhaust was from a 1.4 or 1.6lt car and not a genuine RS. Also genuine RS’s didn’t have a sunroof.
@@freddieparrydrums24, and I love them as well! I also love all the old Land rovers in Mercedes that they passed. Those are way too valuable and desirable to be scrapped!

Seems.... They needed to reduce our supply so that there'd be artificially increased demand. The automakers make money on the inflated vehicle prices (less competition because less available cars in the market).....and they also make money by the gov shelling out the taxpayer money.... too big to fail,,,,,,,, why don't us taxpayers get some of our own lobbyists. damn

It's nothing to do with scrappage scheme - the site is at Thurleigh Airfield in Bedofrd - it's massive logistics hub for Paragon Automotive. The new cars are ready for distribution, the 1-3 year old cars are ex-fleet/lease and the older vehicles are from CoPart salvage. I'm there once a month as part of the fleet I manage to inspect end of lease vehicles.
@@iamthebroker - I could be wrong but they looked like a Roles Royce when I saw it,either way it is a classic luxury car and probably worth a few more pounds than the others ...still a great video
Misguided scrappage scheme: scrap a frugal lightweight old car that does 45mpg and buy a new bloated SUV that has lower emissions on paper based on cheating the standard tests, but in use is far worse.
Just like in the USA, the only reason these schemes were made is for billionaires to profit and the economy to rise. Just like in America, the people buying these new cars at inflated interest loans could not afford them and defaulted on the loans and the cars got repossessed anyway, leading them back to the used car market. All it did was make common cars exceedingly rare and more expensive.
These types of vehicles that are manufactured and is waiting to be sold, purchased by buyers, needs to be computed, inventory management should be conducted/performed in order for them to be sold, by their respective manufacturers, and to clear up space. They are created/manufactured to provide employment, and all the necessary procedures needs to be completed for them not to be declared a loss, since it is too costly for those to be declared a loss. It should be sold as is where is, and declared with proper documentation for further details for claims, insurance by the insurers. Those are to be liquidated for them to be cleared in their respective company makers books.
That is pretty heartbreaking! So much waste, so many classic cars I would love and can't afford or find. And they are just left to rott. Between insurance and such, I was forced to let a perfect car go. Got an absurd renewal for no reason and then because of the age of the car could not find anyone to insure it or they would give me a stupid quote to walk. It's a right shame and seeing that genuinely makes me feel sad and sick. What a f**king waste of history in some cases
Can't believe you walked straight past a MK1 Triumph 2000 and a Rover P4, a Triumph 1300 FWD, Reliant SS1 and a 3.5 Rover SD1, thems is proper classic cars and that Monza next to the Escort is a fairly rare motor over here with the digi dash and Recaro interior and a big whopping 3.0 litre engine too O.o
as much as i agree with you fella ..the car you think and so do a few others is a monza next to the escort is not A monza at all ..I have one in bronze ..if you look close at the grill badge you will see its a pontiac not an Opel badge who made Monzas ( vaxuall didnt ) also as he goes around the rear of the car you can see the name of the car on the bumper lower right corner but i carnt quite make it out ..The Monza GSE was the fast Back And the Vauxall senator saloon almost the same car ...the traffic police in the UK used the senator and Rover SD1 back in the good old days seems like this lad was only interested in jap crap and beemers
vauxall Royalle -opel senator (even tho they where badged as vauxall ) and opel monza ..the royalle was a posh saloon ..the senator as we all know was also a saloon and the monza gse is a fast back...all 3 where made in germany by opel with the base saloons going to vauxall Luton to be finished to british spec i have a monza and if the guy on auto trader is selling a monza then its a opel trust me ..do you have the ad details ? id be very interested in it
I can't believe the classic car lobby, the magazines etc haven't got on to this and appealed to have these cars released so they can be purchased, up-cycled, restored and whatever (imagine prisoners being put to work on them for example or a start up scheme for the unemployed?) The UK Scrappage Scheme was a total con funded by the big business giants behind the market in new cars. It's ridiculous that there's million of pounds worth of vehicles there waiting to be crushed which could be re-used whilst at the same time we, the general public, are badgered in to recycling food scraps and 5p plastic bags.........nothing makes sense in this world any longer, it's such a shame.
I heard that some main dealers are now at least offering certain classics for parts to car clubs or heritage groups that come in under the scrappage scheme before they are actually crushed. As a petrol head myself this video was heartbreaking.
So true! There are literally 100's of rare and unusual cars there but these guys are getting all heated up over Porsche 944's, Beetles, BMW's, and an Escort.
Having owned classic minis, a Beetle and a Land rover it's sad to see then slowly deteriorating. However one other thing I find sad is that there is a whole generation of cars that have disappeared from our roads. There are now probably less Mk1 & 2 Mondeos, Cavaliers, Sierras etc than road worthy classic Beetles, Golfs, MGBs etc. In 30 years time we may regard an early Mondeo as a classic and they will be rare! Boring maybe, but then so were Cortinas & Escorts 25 years ago.
Yes! You've hit the nail on the head. I've a classic mid60s bug and an early 00s polo. I'm reckoning my polo will be rarer than my bug because of this govt nonsense and staffing away taxpayer cash. Whole green/clean b.s. just isn't economical, only benefits a few folk/companies.
Went last year and got arrested. Dogs everywhere when we went. Crazy how you can just walk in after doing a bit of research on the site. They have around 4 dog handlers onsite at 1 time. 24hour CCTV being watched from the cabin up at the entrance. Unfortunately we didn't get all the way down to some of the classics but what a place. Great video:)
The security people are mostly not that bothered about people just looking around but I bet if anyone tried to remove any parts from the cars they would be out of there vans and after you in a flash I walk my dog on an old RAF camp and sometimes we bump in to a guard with a dog and they do not mind us walking around as if we see anyone smashing something up we will let them now.
SirDerpkins damn right. An old car is exciting, something you look after; every journey is an adventure. Can’t think of anything more boring than getting a new car. Let’s not forget a complete waste of money in depreciation
On so many levels, scrappage was a scandal. If you remember, cars were legally required to be roadworthy at the point of trading in to qualify for the scheme and around 400,000 went through the scheme. The vast majority of these would have made perfectly respectable used cars. I remember a 2 year period back then when my local scrapyard was chock full of good roadworthy cars, a lot of them with in-date tax discs. Also, for a man who claims an entusiasm for JDM imports, he ignored and walked past a Toyota Sera, a pretty little car whose gullwing(ish) doors were the direct inspiration for those on Gordon Murray's McLaren F1, without even mentioning it. Only around 15,000 were ever produced over a 6 year period and they are now incredibly rare.
The goverment needs to introduce a save the old car scheme. All those old cars can be then auctioned off and restored. Scrap all the new ones they all look the same anyway lol
could"t agree more, to hell with modern cars in this era. its a damn shame to scrap great classic cars from 50-90 to amazing to be destroy, and they could be worth thousands of £ if restored. people who are passionate about very old cars can earn a fortune on them.
Such a waste of precious metal. They tried that here in America years ago, and called it "cash for clunkers". Many a good machine went to waste back then because of government B.S. They made sure none of them ever ran again by pouring some sort of acid into the engine to permanently disable it. Truly a sad time in auto history.
Valen I remember that scheme here in the States. Bringing in gas guzzlers so people could "clean the air AND save gas." Such a waste of beautiful autos.
@@spacexvanityprojectslimite3315 How do you think the scum in government got them all in the first instance? Certainly wasn't by being honest & truthful with the people, because according to those scummy gits, all those "scrappage" vehicles were meant to be completely destroyed and the metal recycled, so when someone takes back something that was originally taken from them, it can hardly be called theft ya drongo!
@Abraham Shekelbergstien It's capitalism because the main beneficiaries were International Corporation's. Socialism is when the main beneficiary is meant to be the people.
I'm very interested, whilst many of those older cars were to be scrapped, whilst watching the beginning 1:11 and the end of the video at 20:50, after going onto check the MOT website, many of those brand new (diesel) cars filmed there have since had their first MOT's and are back on the road so they would of been presumably temporarily stored there, not waiting to be scrapped - that would of been one reason security was so high there lol
Oh, those Rover P6s and the 3500. That's our motoring heritage there, rotting away on an abandoned airport :( To think these classic British beauties were most likely traded in for Hyundai i10s and Kias that are themselves now probably one expensive repair away from the crusher. I have an '82 Volvo 240 - apparently almost a thousand of those were surrendered during the scrappage scheme, but I guess from this footage they've all long ago been crushed :( JFC we're a wasteful species.
Brought a tear to my eye :( It's a shame seeing all those incredible classics going to waste. I'm quite surprised there's a bunch of 17 plate cars on there, surely they could be sold on the 2nd hand market
This is Absolute Sacralige. So Wrong, What the Hell were the Government thinking of? This is our Heritage for Lords Sake 👏 Thanks big time Guy's, for Highlighting this
The scrappage scheme was an awful idea that got rid of a lot of retro gems that people didn’t realise what they had, they released a list a few years back of what was scrapped and it was heartbreaking. I think those ones left are definitely being stripped for spares, I would bet others were too before being crushed.
It's a strange one really. It was good in a way, it definitely gave a boost to the UK car industry. Of course the downside is these classics but you have to ask if they had stayed on the road would they have survived this long anyway? Most of them perhaps would have just ended up at a scrapyard anyway. In a strange way, by placing them in the scrappage scheme they have oddly saved them as a time capsule of sorts. If only they could be restored. I bet they'd sell them easy enough if they held an auction. But the VIN's will be wiped now and down as officially scrapped so I guess that isn't going to happen. Diesel cars also became much more popular after the scrappage scheme and now they have decided diesel is the devil. So maybe we'd have been better off with all those petrols on the road instead.
Do one i have a feeling that is the case but now the cars dont belong to the gov as the scheme ended in 2010, the scrap company’s that own the cars have the only say when it comes to putting any of the cars on the road. Chances are they would rather crush them for metal(to make there money) rather then sell the cars for less then what they would make out of them.
kieran farrell the crushed cars are only worth a few hundred dollars 500 at the most for the heaviest. Most of those cars were worth far more sold for parts then crushed.
Why not auction the cars? Under certain conditions: - 100% Road legal Restauration by x date. - Only to be sold in parts. - Only for export. Imagine how many foreign collectors or dealers would be dying to get their hands on some of the cars/ parts. US dealers make tons of money annually exporting used cars to Lain America and Africa! That inventory should be worth millions in spare parts!!! Governments and their "odd" decisions To phrase it nicely...
Was a waste of money. These cars were simple and easier to work on. Costing you less in garage fees, now you have a modern car that won't last as long, built cheaper so you replace it quicker, made more complicated resulting in costing you more money at the garage.
No shit, I could probably walk through there and put together many perfectly working cars out of what's there. I wonder how much it would cost for the whole lot at scrap value. Currently iron is only about 2 cents per pound in Canada and we don't use pennies anymore so unless you have over 3 pounds you get nothing and 2,000 pounds of iron would only get you $20. So each vehicle at scrap value is really not worth much at all. The lead in a car battery is probably worth more than the rest of the car in scrap value.
Chris chomley smyth I think your totally right! They want you to buy newer junk . That way they can charge higher prices for parts and labor. And grind up the dependable good cars.
Exactly and they wouldn’t waste so much space when they could build houses since they need to and it’s clear they know people would want those a cars cause of the dogs it just doesn’t add up I can’t just be the government tho who owns this why would they strip all the interior?
Yup. It's planned obsolescence. Just watch the video the BBC did on all the people complaining about the blocks cracking on the shitty little Ecoboost engines in their new Ford Focus's. This is happening by design. These major flaws are literally built into the engines so you need to take them to the dealership often to be fixed. If you want a reliable car, buy a 90's Japanese car. They're practically indestructible.
Exactly that's why I still see ( not much but still) those big GM stations from the 80's around and they are good shape still, GM built those to long and I know what you are going to say but l liked those old big station wagons.
The whole scrapage scheme is a farce and there isn't any scientific evidence that shows it benefits the environment. A new car will use the equivalent to 50 barrels of oil (at 35 gallons per barrel) which would keep my 30 year old land rover defender (470,000 miles on the clock) in diesel for nearly 4 years (at 15000 miles per year). The intended design life for nearly all European cars is only 8 years and we produce over 17 million of them every year. You also have to take in to consideration that modern cars are harder to recycle with complex alloys and carbon steels as well as huge amounts of plastics and non recyclables . Just think of all those touch screens, soft close door automated tailgaters 20 speaker entertainment systems, air bags and whole host of other pointless (may be not the air bags) crap that that increase the carbon footprint of modern vehicles !
Half of those cars weren't even part of the scrappage scheme as the value of the cars such as the 1.6gti's would at the time have far outstripped that of the scrappage scheme offer.
Funny thing about it, is that the cars that these were chucked in for, are now in getting scrapped now. So that 08 /09 plater focus that replaced a R reg escort. 10 years later that 08 /09 plater focus will be now sitting on a racking in a scrap yard or even bailed. While the escort it replaced is still here in the field.
This is Thurleigh in Bedford. The newer cars are the lease cars that are then repaired/re painted and then sent to resale. Anyone buying a 1-3 year old car off a dealer is likely buying one of these.
Adam Macleod its a real shame but since the scrap scheme ended in 2010, the cars now belong to there respected scrap company’s. And only they can decided if the cars can go back on the road or not. Gov has no say on these cars now.
So sad to see all these classics of my youth just rotting away. Each has a story to tell, once somebody's "Pride & Joy" with happy memories attached to them. Probably they became too uneconomical to repair by their last owners.
Didn’t know there were so many scrappage scheme gems at Bedford autodrome! I worked at a BMW main dealer during the scrappage period. I was discussed at some of the cars traded in. I always thought I bet some of the nicer stuff didn’t get scrapped. So people must have done well out of that deal back then.
@@jakebolton983 A brand new Golf GTI would smoke a 20 year old Escort? Well no shit Sherlock... You'd still have a lot more fun in the Escort though and it'll turn more heads.. I should know.. I own one 😉😉
It’s not about the proper cars!!! He’s went to the MK5 Escort because it was a classic when he was growing up. Seeing a MK5 Escort these days is every middle age mans dream!
This looks like Bedford airfield ,all the new cars are waiting to be delivered to hire and lease company's I pickup cars from there .in 2010 at the end of the scrapage scheme there was over 10000 cars ,the story was that they were not getting scrapped .They were going to eastern Europe and sold on and all the classic stuff was cherry picked and they have been breaking them up because they officially don't exist .I work for a salvage company and use to pick scrapage scheme cars from the dealers in 2010 ,we were paying £80 for cars that were worth up to £3000 but had to be scrapped .we have are own breakers yard so they did end up broken up then scrapped.some one has made a lot of cash and still is as they sell of the old classic stuff
I know this video is 2 years old now but that is a Manheim Auction site which is why all those nearly new cars are there. I recognised the site as my brother used to work for Manheim at this site.
Loved my Sera. Back in 98 there were many times cosworth owners would get salty when I popped the doors open. Projection headlamps, gullwing doors front bucket seats, 10 speaker surround sound system from factory. Aircon. Even had the 'new' feature of turning on the fog light on the side that you were indicating of at slow speed. Shame the 1.5l engine wasn't the most powerful, although some owners swapped this out for a turbo
Great video. I think we share similar views on cars with the sounds of it, I bet you'd be great to have a drink with and chat cars. My first car was a white Vauxhall Nova SR, an old 'D' reg, was 12 years old when I bought it. I then bought a Nova that was originally a 1.2 but previous owners put in a 1.6 astra engine, that thing absolutely flew (oddly it had a 4 speed gearbox and I think it was dangerous as well), you could set off in 3rd lol. Man it was different times back then, cars had more character. I also had a 309 GTi 1.9. That was the fastest thing I'd ever driven at that time, was like a missile and remember paying something stupid like 2 grand to insure it. I bought it when it had already done over 120,000 miles and one day I floored it out of the local bowling alley car park and got a box full of neutrals and bits of the gearbox falling out on the road, and that was the end of that as I sold it for peanuts to someone who towed it away, RIP. I don't know what I was thinking but I bought a Ford Ka after that. I later owned a Saxo VTR, a 206 GTi and a Clio Sport 172 Cup but they were like the cars at the beginning of a new age of car ownership and they didn't really have that same feel as the oldies, although the Clio had an edgy rawness to it. My dad also owned a mk5 Escort XR3i which was boss, that RS (was it a real RS? it had that replica feel to it but could be wrong, guess you wouldn't know without popping the bonnet, if an engine is even still in it) but yeah that reminded me of it. Good times. It's crazy how much these classic cars are worth now, you sometimes see old mk 1 Golf GTi's for sale for close to £30,000. I saw a Nova GSi on Auto Trader a few months back and that was close to £10,000. I never owned a German car until about 5 years ago when I bought an Audi A3 and that reignited my love for proper cars again. Something about the German build quality grabbed me again, stirred that passion I had back in the Nova and Peugeot GTi days so last year I thought what the hell and bought myself a new mk 7 Golf 'R', which is a proper weapon. Owning a Golf after owning all those other cars makes me wonder if I'd just bought a mk1 or mk2 Golf back at the start, would I ever have driven anything else? VW/Audi for life now! So I've just re-read what I posted above and realised I wrote a bit of an essay, hope you didn't mind. Seeing all those cars just got me thinking and reminiscing. I'd love to buy an old mk1 Golf now and do it up, drive it on weekends. Ahh, cars hey. What we gonna do when they ban petrol and diesel!? Cheers, Malc.
The problem is they have all been officially scrapped so ZERO chance of getting one re- registered . Government does not want these cars back on the road. Heartbreaking to us car fans. Rather they got rid of them than taunting us with the graveyard. Would have them all,no question. There seems to be no chance of even getting any parts from them legitimately? Apparently they waiting for scrap price to go up and then it's certificate of destruction for them. Tears.
Thomas1984 sadly no. The cars are government property after the scrappage scheme payment was made. A certificate of destruction for each car has to be issued. All the paperwork has been cancelled so no chance of exporting or re-registering. Painful for car enthusiasts but really the only thing you can do is put them out of your mind. The only way o get bits is illegally . Many many people have enquirer about these cars, nobody has ever had any joy!
toby topp maybe at the time they were scrapped they weren’t worth as much? I’m not too sure on the details of this scrappage scheme and when it started
The race car parts at the end are from the MSV experience centre which operates there. You can see the race circuit to the left of your drone shots. The front end was from the Palmer Jaguar, two seater open cockpit sports prototype. There was also a single seater nose cone, Formula Palmer Audi like an F3 car with an Audi engine. Couldn’t tell you about the quarter panel. My guess is the off road track was or s linked to that as some kind of off road experience.
There is no way some of them were involved in the scrappage scheme the values of some of them would have far outstripped that of the offers under the scrappage scheme. Especially, the G Wagon and the 1.6gti's. The w140s would have unlikely have been that cheap then either to be out into the scrappage scheme unless they were really early W140's as anything later than 96 would have been worth quite a bit back then.
Colm Farrel yeah but our valuation and the valuation of a dealership is very different anything over 10 years old you’re lucky to get a few hundred for trade in value
@@bendude6748 That wouldn't have been the case for a G Wagon or s600 w140 their values at the time would have been over 10,000 pound. The maximum the schemes were offering at the time was 7,000 off a new purchase. The 1.6 gti's were also very collectable back then and were worth a significant amount. A G Wagon is one of the best cars when it comes to holding it's value.
What price the carbon footprint scrapping many of these vehicles that have loads of life left in them. Shame on HMG for the scheme & even more shame on some of the previus owners.
I started looking up some of these number plates on a "car check " website . The first 5 or 6 came back as "no vehicle found", which makes sense as they've been classed as scrapped (but they haven't been!), But then I typed in ytd 728 (@4.20) and found it still registered . it had passed all 3 recorded m.o.t's between 5/07 and 7/10, but had no tax data. Amazingly, after first being registered in 1970, it only had done 9920 miles before the 07 m.o.t and 10717 at It's last. Why is it here?
William Duhamel you ain't kidding. In NY, they're either priced like gold, or they have more rust holes than horsepower. I'll be going down to South Carolina to get a rust free one soon. Down there you get faded paint, or a tore up interior, but, they're mail order cars. An interior and a paint job are far far easier to deal with that rust and rot.
I have seen one on the road in Scotland last summer, one the year before and I think I seen one back around 1992 and that is all I have seen of the trans-am in the UK, I have seen one in the USA on the road as well in 2014. Another car that is getting very rare in the USA and the UK is the retro styled chrysler pt cruiser car, I have seen a lot go to end of life as they call it here (parked in storage yards awaiting monthly scrap collection) as the spare parts were difficult to buy in the UK, they were more or less withdrawn, and I have only seen 2 in the US myself, am sure there are lots but they are not a common car anymore and have been scarce since about 2009, many at the time thought that they were ugly but now the tune has changed and they are seen as fashionable due to their quirky 1930's inspired shape and big chrome radiator grill, they are rare so they have become valuable and people want to own them again..
Just done a reg check on some of the cars that you can see in the video, and some are showing taxed and mot'd, some done within the last few weeks of me writing this comment (28/03/2020) Some cars must be there for storage
I trued to check a couple of the older cars like the daimer and the mg and a couple more, but it always said: "vehicle etails could not be found" I wonder why.
Scrappage scheme. A shot in the arm for the auto industry at the expense of a lot of beautiful old cars, sold on the pretense of being good for the environment. We truly live in an insane age.
It was the biggest farce, the government should have worked to save jobs not introduce a scrappage scheme. When things are tight the last thing you want to do is buy a new car. Then been stuck paying for it when things go tits up
jesus christ this absolutely hurts my heart as a jdm fan to see all these z32's, silvia's, s13's and that rx-7 just staying the for who knows how long under the sun. s13 180/200/240sx is one of my dream cars and seeing any just rotting away somewhere completely abandoned is so sad and depressing especially after looking up how much these cost today even in bad shape. i really wish i was born like 10 years sooner so i could grab one at a neat price back in early 2010's.
I remember watching this when you first dropped it.. May have seen couple other sightings of it a while back... Does anyone know if its still exactly like this now or if they've done anything with them yet? Absolutely madness tbh! Alot of scrap there let's be honest but a few absolute gems there too! Shame if they never see the road again. Let me know what it's like now 2 years on from this video????

Nice old cars I can understand ready for scrapyard but new cars Mercedes etc ? Unless there’s a conspiracy going on to keep prices high?
There's no way I could leave those cars sitting like that. I am a law abiding citizen but these cars deserve better than this. It's probably a pick n pull parts place but the bodies on these cars look like they are ready for restoration. If I could win the lottery it wouldn't pay me to find a place like this because I'd buy everything, even the property.
Does anybody know who owns these cars I would like to purchase at least 12 Of them that I seen please comment back
but is there any rs2000?????????????
Walked past lots of genuine classic cars and got all excited by a base model Escort with a boy racer paint job? Odd
Was a genuine RS. An RS2000 to be precise.
@boostedsil40 They were 150bhp and while not the fastest car around they were an underrated car and a decent drive. Some purists would say it wasn't a 'proper' RS though.
Even the Chevrolet beretta sitting beside that escort was better lol
Chilli Sauce no it was not at all, it was a replica; the exhaust was from a 1.4 or 1.6lt car and not a genuine RS. Also genuine RS’s didn’t have a sunroof.

This is insane- many of those classics like the land rovers are in huge demand used and valuable.

Misguided scrappage scheme: scrap a frugal lightweight old car that does 45mpg and buy a new bloated SUV that has lower emissions on paper based on cheating the standard tests, but in use is far worse.
how very true
That was INSANE to see all those vehicles simply going to waste. And a lot of them could still be used too. What a shame.
nothing feels better then saving a classic car

That will not happen till the restorer market can out bribe the new car manufacturers.
could"t agree more, to hell with modern cars in this era. its a damn shame to scrap great classic cars from 50-90 to amazing to be destroy, and they could be worth thousands of £ if restored. people who are passionate about very old cars can earn a fortune on them.
Such a waste of precious metal. They tried that here in America years ago, and called it "cash for clunkers". Many a good machine went to waste back then because of government B.S. They made sure none of them ever ran again by pouring some sort of acid into the engine to permanently disable it. Truly a sad time in auto history.
Valen Greymoon I remember that, you couldn't even get parts off before they crushed them....
Yep, just a pathetic attempt at getting rid of good old cars for economic crap.
yep and this is what's left, there was a few comments in a few classic car mags might see this site filling up more with stupid MOT laws now

I’d rather they get looted for parts or striped by who ever owns them , rather than just crushed for metal
Malc Walker whats funny about that is, one of the country’s that banned diesel already, had test done and it turns out pollution raised 😂
Under certain conditions:
- 100% Road legal Restauration by x date.
Governments and their "odd" decisions To phrase it nicely...
since most of that cars are right steers foreign collectors could do a shite with them
Freddy Chale
bwexit loons in power shaking up the country for their own ends. 'Odd' decisions again!
I don't even have a car ...😶😶 watching this make me sad😭😭
Totally agree, it’s all just about money making not the environment
It was likely to help bring money in during the height of the recession.
Funny thing about it, is that the cars that these were chucked in for, are now in getting scrapped now.
We should raid it!

Look at all those cars! It might be the right place.

I know this video is 2 years old now but that is a Manheim Auction site which is why all those nearly new cars are there. I recognised the site as my brother used to work for Manheim at this site.
3:46 Very rare JDM Toyota Sera
Nachowskip 8632 how much ya wanna bet it still runs 😂👌
@@abrahamestrada2206 Toyota's never die fam...
Good catch!
the motors are out tho
Tears.
Export them, so they can be reregistered in another country. Letting them waste away like this is sacrilege.
Can't we export them to The Netherlands?
Thomas1984 sadly no. The cars are government property after the scrappage scheme payment was made. A certificate of destruction for each car has to be issued. All the paperwork has been cancelled so no chance of exporting or re-registering. Painful for car enthusiasts but really the only thing you can do is put them out of your mind. The only way o get bits is illegally . Many many people have enquirer about these cars, nobody has ever had any joy!
It's a shame. I would just buy like 10 cars right away and sell them here in The Netherlands.
Thomas1984 I would e right there with you! I wanted the classic vw s and the land rovers. Hurts so bad.
This is absolute madness!!! What are they doing letting these things rust
I feel sick watching that... how do we buy 1 back...
You don't, That was the point of the program.
Cough the dosh?
simply steal it
You don't, they just want you to suffer,, bitch!
all is sale`s some day but what are the condition that day...
Who in their bloody right mind would scrap a Land Rover, those defenders are worth £10k plus, that series 3 is worth £5k plus. Wtf.
toby topp maybe at the time they were scrapped they weren’t worth as much? I’m not too sure on the details of this scrappage scheme and when it started
They were forced I think
Yeah cupple of screw drivers a battery and a gal of red on the way ☺
All land rovers are scrap
@@temsbab1565 no they got 2k, no-one was forced, i never PXs my 90s fiesta
Totally skipped over that Toyota sera to the left of the escort, with the glass mclaren style opening doors from factory
Mclaren actually borrowed a local Sera when they were designing the F1.
Really? You learn something new everyday
My hubby's been there driving a car transporter picking up cars.
I love all the old cars and the defenders. Loads of money in them 😀
That was amazing! Would have loved to explore that place with my drone.
Thanks for sharing sir! 👍
I bet anybody who traded in a Land Rover Defender for a new Honda CRV et al in 2008> is seriously regretting it now.
kavyman1066 pretty much all the people that traded them in probably regret it
There is no way some of them were involved in the scrappage scheme the values of some of them would have far outstripped that of the offers under the scrappage scheme.
This video made me cry. Sad sad sad. It's shocking the amount of decent (if old) cars just left to rot.
While out there some people don't have cars
All those Jaguars & MGs just rotting away. :( I'd be happy to give them a temporary home to fix up and sell them for people to enjoy.
Well, well...it's really heart-warming to know that the USA isn't the only country that wastes so much .
Corruption is rife here in the UK too.
You’re right!! It would be great now if the Europeans would shut up about Americans being wasteful.
I'm almost crying at this all those classics 😪
Looks like the equivalent of the BS "cars for clunkers" program in the us. Lots of good iron wasted. Thanks Obozo
Kevyn cagle at least in America you can donate your old car to charity and get a tax break, they were doing that in massachusetts when I was there..
Someone is making millions from the spares.
how.. send a mechanic in there and retrieve the spare part ..? travel and wages would make that profetless..
@Connor’s Diecasts welcome to the future.. :)
2:00 Oh boy, classic smart cars. To me a classic car is a '57 Chevy.
to these guys "back in the day" was 2001
57 Chevvies good to look at and to listen too. But they drive like a dead elephant but the good news is they stop like one.
For him a classic car is a gti.
@Brett Ellis and now 2 years after your post this car (YTD 728) also comes up as "Vehicle details could not be found"
@@thestarmusic thanks for the update after all this time. It's weird how/why things like this happen.
@@Buffalo31 it's still there, YTD 728H, you missed off the H but it's still on DVLA site
The Pontiac you saw is called a Firebird or Trans Am. They are even becoming rare in America.
They don't call them turd gems for nothing.
William Duhamel In Germany you can get a Firebird in good condition for 2k. A Trans Am is about 6k. Thats a bit strange.
I literally just said that two seconds before seeing your comment
Funny that you walked right by a Pontiac Firebird a car you do not see in the UK.
Not only a firebird...its a GTA trans Am........rare spoiler....probably a high optioned car....nice find....sad its rotting away
They had never seen one before. Look, It's what, a Pontiac!? I don't blame them, it's rare in Europe.
They shite
We don't see them cos we have corners!
Cos it’s a shitty Pontiac.
Something dodgy going on there ,,all the classics hidden behind the landrovers and vw vans and bits missing like ya say
Just done a reg check on some of the cars that you can see in the video, and some are showing taxed and mot'd, some done within the last few weeks of me writing this comment (28/03/2020)
Some cars must be there for storage
Fair play
sure for storage,,,,,,,,,,,,,,forever storage!
I trued to check a couple of the older cars like the daimer and the mg and a couple more, but it always said: "vehicle etails could not be found" I wonder why.
I have done the same with a few of the vans, one just had an MOT a few month ago.
Maybe been resold or the registration plates themselves
This was hard to watch 😭
Scrappage scheme. A shot in the arm for the auto industry at the expense of a lot of beautiful old cars, sold on the pretense of being good for the environment.
We truly live in an insane age.
It was the biggest farce, the government should have worked to save jobs not introduce a scrappage scheme. When things are tight the last thing you want to do is buy a new car. Then been stuck paying for it when things go tits up
Shame all those cars going to waste , some fantastic classics ....
jesus christ this absolutely hurts my heart as a jdm fan to see all these z32's, silvia's, s13's and that rx-7 just staying the for who knows how long under the sun. s13 180/200/240sx is one of my dream cars and seeing any just rotting away somewhere completely abandoned is so sad and depressing especially after looking up how much these cost today even in bad shape. i really wish i was born like 10 years sooner so i could grab one at a neat price back in early 2010's.
If someone can tell me where this place is exactly then I will start a petition to have the classics saved
I think someone said RAF thurleigh
Very sad (and damn frustrating!) to see pictures like this!
What's the story about all the 'new' cars sitting her too?
the new cars are being stored for the leasing / finance companies
Very sad 2 see i want to have one of the golfs
A restorer's paradise. Not only one, but several old Minis. This clip will have most certainly given a whole lot of free publicity.
My dream has always been to build up an old iconic car but I'ts really hard(or too expensive) to get... even bodies
of old cars... and seeing all of these old cars just in
this video made me so sad
Awesome. Why have these beauties been left like that? So many of them deserve to be saved and restored. A classic car lover’s paradise
In the US we had the "cash for clunkers" program. So many awesome cars were destroyed to please the tree huggers.
Nothing to do with tree huggers, just corporate greed.
I remember road kill saving that beautiful yellow Camaro... the 'Crusher Camaro'!
I'm 20 and recently bought a 90's car and thought omg parts for this thing gone be so cheap, blah blah , then could find shit and remember this but couldn't remember what it was called .
Made it extremely difficult to find choice cars for motor sports applications like street stocks and demo derby cars thanks Obama
I think the most popular vehicle in that program was the 2nd gen Explorer. Shame
Thanks to Obama and the fucking shit democrats
Three Toyota soarer sitting there makes me cry😭😭😭
Some great work here boys, even if some of your definitions of classic differ to mine.
and people still buy new cars when there's already so many on the planet.
Cause many times buying and fixing old cars us waste of time, mainly cause there are no extra parts available.
No it's because of lazy morons like you that don't know how to fix a car.
