  • After exploring the various options for tyre inserts, I decided to make my own. So in this shed time I design, make, install and test my own "Foamserts".

    Another thing I really like about this video is how you focussed your energy on cutting the cost of those expensive tire inserts.

      With a bit of time and patience, more or less anyone an do it.

    Have to admit I saw the title of this vid and thought you were going to sit out in your shed and cut away at some foam with an X-acto knife. Very cool stuff with the laser cutter. You really saw the light on that one.

      I could of done that, but when you can use lasers, use lasers!

    Great job on this man! So question, how do these help protect the rims? Do they lay just above the rim inside the tire so when you get impact they protect the rim?

    • @StravaigingMTB
      @StravaigingMTB  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Regular Guy Mountain Biking, exactly that, they provide a cushion between the tyre side wall the rim and what ever hard edge you hit harder than you wanted too!

    • @StravaigingMTB
      @StravaigingMTB  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Regular Guy Mountain Biking still need to improve my audios consistency though, always room for improvement!

    I've been thinking the same thing myself to get a wee bit more protection for my back wheel alone with some peace of mind. I'll give it a go. Wish I had a laser cutter!

    • @StravaigingMTB
      @StravaigingMTB  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Laser cutter is neat but a scalpel and some patience will do the same thing. Itcwrtainly gives some protection but it also works as a volume spacer in your tyre. I have another video on the channel talking about why I use inserts and their duel benefits 🤘.

      @@StravaigingMTB Excellent. I'll look for that one.
      I'm going back to a hardtail later this year, and I figure it will make sense to beef things up in back. Just in case.
      Cheers

    Kind regards

    3years on did the foam inserts hold up?

    • @StravaigingMTB
      @StravaigingMTB  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      They held up pretty well all things considered. I still use them on my hardtails but have rimpact in the rear of my enduro rig.

      +Lewis Carr sorry folk keep asking me to buy them so I'm not releasing the drawing. It's a simple enough path though, some TH-cam illustrator tutorials on paths and pathfinder will give you all you need.

    Why are the edges not cut in a straight line?

    • @StravaigingMTB
      @StravaigingMTB  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Good question, it stops the sealant getting trapped in one half of the tyre.
