Rafael, Cooper’s jumper is legit, he can score whenever he wants. He can post you up and face you up, kill you in the triple threat and kill you off the dribble.
They don’t really kno how dominate Coop bout to be, he a team player but at the same time super skilled & get basket put most important it start with the his defense for him.
I think the most encouraging thing about his jumper is he shoots it so well while being heavily contested. Similarly to how Larry Bird would hold the ball behind his head and that would create more space for him to get a shot off, I see Cooper doing the same thing.
I have been watching Duke bb for going on 70 years. I have seen their up and downs over the years. If you turn the clock back to 1964, it was the NCAA bb tournament, where Duke played UCLA for the national championship. John Wooden made the decision to put Kenny Washigton in the game who Duke had no answer for. Washington was averaged about 6ppg and racked up 26 in this game. Duke was able to break the relentless press of UCLA but their shot just were not droppiing. I am not sure if UCLA would have won that game if Wooden had not put Washington into the game. Hard to say. During the Krzyzewski years, two of my biggest beefs with Krzyzewski was he would run up a big lead and then slow the game down at the ten minute mark which allowed a number of teams to come back and win the game. If he would have only kept the pedal to the metal with about three minutes left in the game. The other thing was his allocation of bench talent. I think he should have used more of his bench over the years than he did. But he was old school. Back in the day, coaches rarely played the bench. I think in cruical games, had Kyzyewski played his bench more often, when his stars got in trouble, his bench players would have more experience in crucial situations. This is not to take anything away from Mike Kyzyewski. We know coach K is the goat. Now, Schyer is in at the helm. He has the most talented team, maybe, in the history of college basketball. I know this is debatable, but definitely better than the fab five. Calapari had a great class in 2011, One of the best classes in college basketball including winning the last game of the season. There is no doubt that this Duke team can go all the way, but, and here's the but, can Schyer manage the talent? This is going to be the issue. Can he control the egos of the star players and turn them into team players? You have to give Schyer credit for his recruting efforts to assemble this talent on the same team. A lot of guys would have went elsewhere due to limited pt. Somehow, he managed to fill the bench with incredible talent. The real question is how is he going to give reasonable pt to his team and a continunity to have the team play together an entire game where the rhythm is not disrutped when players are being shuttled in and out. John Calapari never really mastered this in the way that Dean Smith did. This will be a crucial year for Schyer as he has all the tools needed to win a national championship. If he doesn't deliver, it will not be good. It won't get him fired, but it will put a lot of unwanted light on him. There are many twists and turns on the way to the final four. What would have happend with Duke had Zion Williamson's shoe not blown out and messed up his knee? What would have happened when Chris Duhon got pushed into a basket foundation and had he not cracked his ribs? We all know all eyes are going to be on the Duke bb team, not so much in terms of the national championship, but how are they going to play throughout the year, especially the high level talent? We know that Copper Flag is going to the NBA and provided he remains healthy will be the national player of the year. Kon Knuppel will go to the NBA. Isaiah Evans is a question mark. If he can do what he did in high school on the college level, he will go. Main thing is how will he make it through the season? Body wise, he is not ready for the NBA. He needs definately at least a year to bulk up. Caleb Foster is, also, a question mark. Depends on how he makes it through the season. He seems to be more academically inclined and might stay long enough to get his piece of paper. Tyrese Proctor is another question mark. If he can improve his driving ability and open up driving lanes, he could go, but he is willing finish his senior year? Is he close enough to stay the final year for his piece of paper? Kahaman Maluch is not there for an academic ride. He has the size and the atleticism and will be headed to the NBA at the end of the year. Patrick Ngongba is a question mark. Darren Harris is another question mark. He will probably be looking to the following year based on his injuries. Maliq Brown will return. I think the talent out there is waiting to see how this season goes before making a commitment to Duke. I could be wrong, but they have no one signed as of yet.

Awesome video. It kept me engaged the whole time. A few thoughts.. 1) Duke has placed considerable emphasis this summer on getting to the rim and finishing through contact. I expect vast improvement in the play of Proctor and Foster in this area. Proctor’s late freshman season surge coincided with Lively’s ascent, so it is reasonable to expect Maluach’s presence in the paint to positively affect Tyrese’s game. 2) Great insight from Leif in regards to Duke’s defensive potential to hold teams under 60 ppg all season long. 3) The cream rises to the top and playing time will go to the most deserving. These guys came to Duke because they were willing to compete. Flip looked terrible in his freshman summer but ended up leading the team in scoring. And McCain emerged from a crowded backcourt and landed in the NBA after just one season. I wouldn’t dismiss Isaiah Evans or Darren Harris just yet. Every practice and every game presents an opportunity to show their worth. Someone will get left out because there’s only 200 minutes. But the lineup will fluctuate throughout the year; it’ll be a different guy every game that sits the bench from start to finish.
Caleb Foster is running point, not Tyrese Proctor. I would put him in as another lock to start. He's looked far better than Proctor has in the preseason. His speed and ability to put pressure on the rim are really important for Duke. This isn't just speculation on my part either. I have it directly from someone who was at practice the other day that Caleb brought the ball up 85% of the time. Obviously, Tyrese and Cooper both ran some halfcourt sets. But Tyrese is actually playing more as an off-ball movement shooter this year. I was at Duke's Media Day a few weeks ago and Scheyer specifically said he wanted to use Tyrese that way. And then I attended Countdown to Craziness, and that's exactly what I saw happening. As for Khaman, he probably starts because of optics and politics. But I have real questions about his understanding of the game at this point. He can block shots, get putbacks, and grab rebounds because of his size. But he doesn't understand basic big man skills like how to set a screen. The guards are having to heavily direct him, and he's STILL not sure where to go or how to time it.
People really underrate Caleb foster, he was better than proctor last year and was a higher rated prospect than Kon. He defends, he can shoot and he’s prob the best player at breaking down the defense off the bounce on the team
the Kon hype reminds me of TJ Power hype last year...remember when the social media gurus were saying that TJ would start? We need to be the best defensive team we can be to when this natty...does Kon have the quickness and experience to guard the 2s and 3s? nobody talks about that...they seem to be enamored with his shooting and nothing else...
Not really the same they're actually pretty different players. The only thing power did last year was stand in the corner on offense and was very bad on defense. Kon can play with the ball in his hands, which will help him get minutes considering there really are only 2 true ball handlers on the team. Of course his shooting is his best trait but he isn't just a shooter. He brings more to the table offensively. Also he's a bit better defensively than Power, although not a great defender by any means.
@@maconjones3581 saying that he is bit better that TJ on defense defense won't get the job done...plus when i see the scrimmage games they're ( the games) just like last year...all they show is buckets...James, Gillis are better players...
Real question is how good will khaman be. If khaman is a bad rim protector it’s over. Cooper is going to day 1 be the best secondary rim protector in college, buts he just that SECONDARY. If a 6’9 freshman is your last line of defense no matter who it is your in for a long season
