Sorry it’s took so long for the part 2 guys! But as you know I’ve been under the weather, 🤧 videos will now be more consistent. Hope you all enjoy, all the best everyone!
Sam. I love the Mercedes engine cover badge. I've been trying to find one since owning the Clk. I'll be in touch soon for collection. Very happy man mate.
With the amount of parts replaced & the expert work/knowledge required, I think £6,700 was a bargain especially with the gearbox refurb for £1,200. The car will more than likely provide years of trouble free motoring to come. Glad to see a mechanic who cares about his work. Enjoyed the videos.
As an Australian owner of a nice Mercedes B200 CDI (2012 model) it is great to see your in-depth videos on Mercedes generally. They are professional, factual, and no stupid padding. Fantastic.
Your work ethics remind me of how repair shops and mechanics worked decades ago. It was a mutual relationship towards maintaining a vehicles health. Kudos from across the pond..
Simply excellent content again Sam. You and Nathan are a hell of a team. Your customers are very privileged to have you. As a mechanic (non merc) and huge merc enthusiast who owns an S204 really appreciate the channel.
Hi Sam, Rolf from Australia nice to see your good work.I have a C 55 AMG 2005.Not many of them around in Australia. 130...km. love it very much. Beeing an 74year ( old motor mechanic) I like to see your videos. Also appreciate your honesty cheers good luck for the future.
My 2003 CLK 55 has a Valeo radiator and to be honest, it scared me a bit as they were known to have a factory defect and leak. However, it seems that the previous owner replaced the radiator because the date on it is 05/03/05, so I hope I won't have an unpleasant surprise.
23:29 He’s telling the truth… always doing free stuff for me when my car is in. If Sam was a plastic surgeon, you’d go in for your appendix and wake up looking like Cher.
i cant believe how rare parts become nowadays on mercs. back in the eighties i had a customer in sheffield that had a 500 gullwing and i could get the parts (sometimes with a bit of delay) quite readily.
I always fancied a nice Merc, but I would need to live near this garage to realise the dream. Excellent professional work done by those who are specialists. Very heartening.
i am lucky to have an honest Service rep/ and mechanic at my local Mercedes dealer here in Florida. They are honest like you guys. Really enjoy watching these videos. Your customers are so lucky to have a mechanic like you.
Real professionals be proud of what you do I am proud of you guys being an engineer myself this is how it should be done. I would come from anywhere in the country to see you guys if I had a Merc
My 2011 w204 c300 suffered this at 120k mls. Replaced radiator, torque converter, clutches, tcm, and reprogrammed the tcm. Cost: $8k for parts and $1.8k for module and $500 for merc tech mobile programming. After 2k mls car runs good but trans 94% as smooth as it used to be
Fabulous work, lovely CLK55, an underrated car in my opinion. I had one of these a few years ago in the same colour, always thought it could have used a 6 speed manual, it would have transformed the engine’s performance. However I also felt the auto gave them a muscle car feel which was enjoyable.
The same thing happens to lexus ls430 and mk3 gs430, but not a low mileage, it usually happens around 100000 miles or slighly over, what people do to prevent it from happening is either replace the radiator just before it hits 100k or put a separate cooler on it
The more expensive a car was new, the more you need to spend to keep it on the road, no such thing as a cheap performance car. Great video series and hopefully loads of fun for the owner.
Wow what a job and that’s some amount of work you have done to the car. And only for the bill to come in at £6,700 you could have well over charged for that like so many other garages would have done. Just shows that you’d are genuine guys and are not out to rip people off. I have a £5.800 bill coming for a Bank 1 and Bank 2 manifold rebuild on my SQ7 If I got the bill of £6,700 for all that work I would gladly pay it and not even query it one single bit.
Oh no! You and Steve diagnosed a failed Valeo radiator in my 2003 W211 E270. Unhappy memories! The cost was too high at the time so I traded it in to the dealer that sold it to me. I have never done that before or since but that car was the most unreliable motor of my entire life. It was at your place so often that I had forgotten to MOT it! Bargain job, sounds like gearboxes might be cheaper to rebuild now, I hope that you are now in fine fettle yourself 💪
Another very informative and enlightening video. I also echo a previous post, £6.700 for all that work, I was fully expecting the total to be a fair bit more. I consider myself very fortunate that you guys will be looking after my new to me Clk 55.
I absolutely loved wathcing this video and its inherently clear that you guys take enormous pride in the work that you do. The customer must be over the moon with the end result, i know i would be if i was lucky enough to own this beauty. Keeep up the good work 👍
My W210 E55 was a one owner car for 17 years came with a full main dealer history as far as I could tell it's gearbox lasted 250,000 miles with only two fluid changes. It was getting a bit sluggish to change gear when I had it though.
£6,700! Was fully expecting around the £10k mark to be honest. With all that work and such low mileage, I think the car will be worth that much more, or at least £5k more. Cracking job
There is a screw missing but there is also a Loose Nut standing directly behind the two front Wheels! Seriously Sam, the Best Mercedes Mechanics out there and Seriously funny Mechanics let's all be honest🤭🤭🤭🤭🤭 P.S. Smiles per Gallon..................................😂😂😂😂
I think that price sounds very reasonable Sam, great job. I hope the car warrants that investment. I have just purchased my sons 2019 Mercedes GLC 200 , 4 matic. It has done 66,000km and is in pristine condition. I may regret having to sell my 2016 Holden Calais, which has never given me an ounce of trouble at 121,000 km and runs sweet as a nut. A beautiful car and very economical.
A small price to pay to keep such a nice car on the road. Great work on a modern classic car :) Every day is a school day - I honestly had no idea what a torque converter actually looks like 😂
Thanks for pointing out part 2 with the gearbox work. Jeep use a graph showing the fill level at different temperatures for their 722.6. Are you at liberty to divulge who does your Tranny and Torque Converter repairs please? It may come in useful in future.
Fabulous work to bring this rare gem back to factory health. You could tell it was a labour of love. Congratulations, new subscriber to the channel but fascinating to watch and learn. Thank you for the excellent content.
Faulty radiators allowing coolant into the trans. were Valeo , used in cars built up to Sept 2003 . After that they should be unaffected.. Behr are the better ones. Select carbon filter on the AC and it won't click. Great work ,,the car will now run well for years to come.
Great video Sam, I wish all garages operated with such honesty, integrity and enthusiasm. Love the deadpan humour and I am sure your channel will just grow and grow. Hope your ill health problems have now been resolved as well. Any more collabs coming up with Matt from High Peak Autos - another person who is a credit to the car trade (cant believe I said that!).
When you replaced the short section of fuel line, if it lives in the tank, does it need to be a fully submersible grade? On my bike, I replaced some in the tank and required a grade able to live with fuel inside and outside.
Cars that have the AMG trim package but not the drivetrain are a bit "Meh" if you ask me. MB should have used a different name for the option but I understand why they did it, let's them cash in on the reputation if special cars and once everything is electric, AMG won't mean anything anyway.
The transmission refurb was pricey but it is peace of mind for the customer. Genuine Mercedes parts can sometimes be pricey but they're always money well spent as I found out with the front control arms I bought for my 2009 W204 C200. That is a beautiful CLK and the money spent will help to maintain the value of the car.
Omg, you seriously turned a day going south into a really, REALLY good day with an upload from you guys!! So amazing, thank you Sam and everyone else at SPR!! This almost made me cry, with such low miles too... I'm happy that owner found you, you gave him a really really good price for the work you did. Unlike the extortionist over-rulers at a Mercedes dealer who probably would've stripped this customer dry. P.S. I never knew that the transmission fluid/coolant fluid crossover in the radiator problem affected these 2005 CLK 55's tbh! A lot of sources online seem to leave that fact out, probably because of how very little people know due to the low production numbers for this last year. The UK numbers I've seen say there were only around a few dozen 05' CLK 55 Coupes over there and that's it!
This car is not a 2005 build..it has the older style interior switches and command , older style wheels and engine cover and does not have quad exhaust tips. Most likely it was built prior to October 2003 and had a Valeo radiator. Cars after that date had BEHR radiators or revised valeo radiators and are not affected by the trans fluid / coolant crossover problem. 2005 CLK55's also had bigger brakes ,6 piston front calipers and two piece rotors which this car does not have.
Great learning about the gearbox, torque converter. Amazing job and a great car. Well worth the spend. I love the attention to detail in your work, the engine cover star 🤌I'm pretty new to Mercedes I have an s204 2012 on 109k owned 6 years since 50k so enjoy expanding my knowledge with these videos.
Great video and work on this classic beast. Just wondering if the fuel hose is in tank hose that can be submerged, as standard fuel hose can only withstand fuel on the inside not on the outside. Cheers.

Just as matter of interest mine has a separate horn behind the radiators would that be a alarm horn maybe ? Love ya dedication to Mercedes stuff 👍
Hey Sam, while we're talking about CLKs and auto gearboxs, I've a 2001 CLK with the 5 speed auto. I tend to change down manually when slowing down or coming to a stop. I've a friend who's adamant that doing this causes damage to older, torque converter gearboxes. I've called BS. Any thoughts??
Still missing the centre caps in all 4 wheels ? Lovely red X218 in the background - my parents have a 2014 CLS250CDi in Diamond White with the AMG pack that was rear ended by a taxi driver 😕. It has AUD$18k of damage, insurance company wanted to write it off (statutory, not structural write off), parents said no, they're going to repair it (only has 65,000km on the odo & in mint condition). It finally goes to body repairs next week after waiting a few weeks for parts from MB.
Sorry it’s took so long for the part 2 guys! But as you know I’ve been under the weather, 🤧 videos will now be more consistent.
