It's not so much the snow, the main reason for a lot of the sharp roof angles is because a lot of them have clay tiles and they're very heavy, so it's a lot less stress for the roof if it's at a steeper angle. Poland does get snow but it's not really a lot compared to some other countries that are located further north. People in Poland love the clay tiles because they can last up to 100 years without replacement and they look really nice.

Correct, where I live we get 50cm + each year, so the roof is both for aesthetic and functionality.
