  • Once you have tried using CA glues in the woodwork shop you will see just how indispensable they are, with so many different viscosities, and now with a variety of wood colors and even black and white CA glues, Starbond super glue has really stepped up to be a premium supplier. I am constantly filling knot holes and cracks in boards, using CA glue for jigs and small repairs, this list of uses is endless and when you combine the use with Starbond accelerator and get instant drying, it opens a whole new world of possibilities, for example as shown in the video making wood rasps that work in literally seconds, attaching securing bolt heads so they don't turn and more, for me they have become like another pair of hands in the workshop.

    It’s amazing how many uses there are with CA glue! It’s pretty amazing stuff. I actually found some CA glue in my fridge a few weeks ago that’s probably been in the fridge for about 3 years. I tried it before throwing it out, and it still worked great, although not sure how long it would actually hold because of its age, I wouldn’t advise forgetting you have CA glue in the fridge, but recommend that you store it in the fridge as it does in fact extend the life of the glue.

    Thanks Colin. When I fill cracks or marks or imperfections. I make a pile of sawdust my using the exact same wood. Then I pack the hole really tight with the sawdust and soak it with thin CA glue. I’ll add more sawdust to the top as it dries then sand it down. Works well for me.

    Thanks for tips! I am new to this and although I have Starbond CA glue you gave me some great ideas on it’s many uses! I particularly like the example of the 3 types at the start of your video. As a newbie it helped me understand the difference - I wish I had seen this when I originally ordered it because I wasn’t sure which to get. I did order the medium and it had worked great so far. Thanks again for all your videos - very informative.

      Thought the same would be a possibility. Recently bought a paint scraper at HD with extra carbide blades that are slightly curved and fairly sharp. Perfect for scraping a small width line. The other edge of scraper is straight. The blades can be touched up on a diamond stone, too.

    Colin HELP? Watching a playlist of your videos, a very long time ago, i saw you talk about the kind of gloves you use with CA glue; but later when i wanted to buy some, i wasn't able to locate the reference again. So, I was so excited, to see this updated CA glue tips video, and I made sure to screenshot the gloves type when shown in white on the screen. But, like some others have said in the comments, I cannot find Polythyrene Gloves. Can you help us out with a Link, or brand name?
    As always, great content Colin!👍 I love your channel and I very much appreciate all of the care, up to date & welcomed information, and very hard work that you put in to all of your videos. Thanks for over 14 years of wood working goodness! ~ 🛠Lisa♿
    PS I will, follow the link and read the full article, in search of my answer, but I wanted to ask about the gloves here, before navigating away. My disability software plays well with TH-cam, but I am not always so lucky out on the wild wild web, Thank You.

    It’s helpful to use a block plane set to a very fine cut to remove the ca glue blobs first so you don’t end up with a valley in the wood. Sanding is less selective.

  • @jarmstrong2843
    @jarmstrong2843 ปีที่แล้ว

    To repair screw holes or unseen voids I fill the holes in small steps with baking soda and then add CA glue. After the mixture has hardened, I can drill a new hole for a screw or fill in an unseen void and sand smooth. This mixture makes a very hard and strong repair. It can be used to repair, wood, plastics, fiberglass and even metals.

    I have opened (but capped) CA in the fridge that still works as expected after ten years (at least). Tube Epoxies too. Store some in a fridge, you’ll be surprised how long it retains most if not all of its properties. Why are all WW channels addicted to ‘accelerator’ with CA? You do know regular CA sets in seconds anyway, especially on wood (and skin) without fancy, cost adding sprays!

    • @A6Legit

      I was watching stephen ogle video earlier about filling bowl cracks with epoxy. He said matthias wendel did a video comparing glues and epoxy to fill cracks. Supposedly epoxy did best. Depends how big the void is I guess. If its just a hairline I'd probably use CA, bigger id go epoxy.

    If the cracks are big enough don’t use CA at all - use epoxy. Regardless of what you use to fill a big defect don’t sand at all… CA and epoxy are both harder than most woods, save for a few exotics. So use a plane and/or a cabinet scraper to get it flushed up.
