This is one of those levels that requires the player take a certain path, at exact or within certain time frames to keep things rolling! However most of us do not take the preplanned path as we play the the pre scripted course. We don't have the script ! You did a great job! The setting and the texture were very cool. Thank you for pushing trough it. PS I found a video on you tube on Liminal Doom 2 - Map 05 (Threshold) breakdown look it up. it explains the confusion anyone would have on this level You have great day , and I am still searching around for my version of Demon gate. peace out
Thanks bud. :) I'll definitely check out that video-it'll be nice to see the proper way to do this one (and to just see someone else play through it, lol). Thanks for the heads up!
I'm considering it! It would definitely be on Medium, because I don't want to deal with the resource deprivation again (plus, dashlet patched the cheese strat I used to deal with the shadows, haha). I hope that makes the platforming sections easier to deal with as well. For now, though, I think I need a short break from this. :)
Hah, no kidding. Honestly, I don't even think ZDoom's jumping would make this sort of platforming all that great. Quake's movement is way more tuned for this sort of thing. This is a bit of a side tangent, but it's really annoying how purists forget that ZDoom is literally meant to change how Doom plays, and to be a heavily customizable experience. :/
The concept of the map was good, the execution could be polished. More than anything i wouldve made all the time events repeatable, so no matter what players can get through everything. But eh what do I know. I enjoyed the unholy trilogy a lot ✨️
Same here! If the map were shorter the non-repeatable timed events wouldn't be as bad, but this map does demand a pretty significant time investment if you want to 100% it. :/ Glad you enjoyed the unholy trilogy, though! ❤️
I finishd the map yesterday i think, had to use the map editor to check how some things worked. Aso i dont remember if you watched it? But the show had some music and slowly rising stuff, maybe it bugged for you cuz i swear i went there an hour into the map and it wasn't triggered yet, also theres a hidden? Map easter egg you cant normally see (as far as i know) with a dead doomguy. And yes the last fight while doable is way to annoying to single segment it, i managed to escape the area but had ro cheat on amunition to actually get every kill (it was just thst last area). The annoying part is some of the time based stuff is not marked, that makes rhe first playthrough a too long/slow progress wise
I didn't actually see the show yet. I used the "tntem" cheat to kill all the enemies just to see if my suspicions about the show only appearing once were true. I'm thinking about doing another playthrough of this map on HMP so that I can get a proper completion, but I need to take at least a short break from this WAD. :) I'm glad I'm not the only one who had issues with that last fight. I didn't really mind the resource starvation too much until that point. Agreed on the timing elements: for me, this would have worked better on a 4-5 minute map rather than a 25+ minute long one.
so many things about this map are horrible. i've sat through all 3 videos and it just keeps getting worse. ridiculous platforming, switches that go away so you cant solve puzzles, no consistency with the hints on which doors open when, its a mashup of crap.
I'm really curious how much of this changes on Medium difficulty. With the newer mapping standards it's possible to raise additional platforms depending on difficulty, so maybe it's a bit less nasty? I think I have a higher tolerance for puzzles and such, but I generally didn't mind this one, and that's made the really frustrating parts (like the platforming at 21:42…) that much worse. :/
21:42 "No, fuck this. I'm not doing it."
AGREED!
…especially since it's required to get the proper ending. 😑
"Not Even Remotely Fair" has a new challenger: "Not even Remotely Fun"!

Timed puzzles are the worst.
I can deal with them on shorter maps, but having to replay 20-25 minutes because you missed something isn't my idea of fun. :/
This map is fascinating. Honestly, I'd love to watch you do a practised run through it, a la My House back in the day.

I remember when Zdoom introduced jumping and purists complained and now we have maps full of obnoxious platforming with no jump button.

I guess you lost the ability to run fast achieving "the so-called " jump 😑
