Thank you for the video! I am getting back into 40k, have a nice growing space wolf army. I was looking for a mobile, flexible and self sufficient...not needing baby sitting from the rest of the army
I would love to return to BA in 2024, but I'm not confident it'll be this year. I had to make a choice: invest in more Firstborn BA or wait for modern BA units to come out. So I started my own chapter made up of both Dark Angels and Templars units. I expect to finish the Dark Angels half in the next six months. After that it'll be BA...hopefully 🤞. Lots of Space Marines in the next 18 months or so!
Started with Leviathan so there are a lot of goals. 0. Be a good oponent. Always the goal. Know rules, be friendly, give them thought But fair Fight and have Fun. 1. Build my army(19/42 done) models to build). With extra points for actualy painting models(5/42 done). 2. Play atleast one starter tournament 1500pts 3. Play atleast one 2k tournament. 4. Not swap to Death Guard or Deamons until 11th. Chaos models are So Cool. Nurgle the most. 5. Not buy anything else then codex, 11th starter and BA box deathwing assault style(if we get any). 6. Not play turn 2 one hour. 🤣 7. Know all secondaries and actualy play for drawing them So i can score efectively. Year is long and i think i am ready for new munitoriums with anought models i like to play.
I've been running a squad of 6 for quite a few game snail and I can't imagine taking them out. There aren't very many units that you can point them out that won't die, that I find myself needing to kill. I run a lot of jump pack Marines that are hiding in terrain. So I have the luxury of using Armour of contempt on them. if i'm selective with where I place them, it's quite difficult to shoot them down. The reason I run six instead of two units of three is to really capitalize on the librarian dread. When your opponent figures out they can't stop them shooting the thing they want on turn one, their heart just sinks
My hobby goal is to actually play a game of warhammer 40/30k. I have thousands of points and I always try to paint to such a high standard that I never find time to want to actually play a game lol. Great videos they get me hyped to play some 40k!
I’ve been running a squad of 6 in vanguard for the last 4 months. They always do work. Being -1 to hit and having cover over 12” ups their survivability a lot (and then armour of contempt)
Im cautious about buying anything firstborn, but these are really tempting. My goals are to paint the models i have or sell them. Either way, no grey plastic!
Happy New Year John! Im looking forward to trying out my gravis armor options. Heavy inters, aggressors, eradicators and inceptors. The numbers make me want to consider a Valiant over the Lancer but how does the math stack up? The lastalon is half the range at 36 and slightly lower strength at 10, but its twin linked and +1 to hit v monsters and vehicles. The meltas are also nothing to sniff at, with 4 shots at S9 doing extra damage if anything decides to get too close.
Talking about the lancer, your first mistake was trying to kill a daemon with a +4 invuln with it..... The lancer is very one dimensionsal but does that one role the best, so taking one for anti tank is always safe, even if you end up targetting the destroyer at T7 infantry like centurions and skorpehk destroyers after it does its job. Always take something with devastating wounds, like a redemptor to handle stuff like daemons or something with multiple lascannon shots; land raider, devastator squads (both kinds). More dice rolled = more chance for failure.
Winning 5 games in a row with Sons of sanguinious seems like a good goal & eradicators still seem like the best option for anti vehicles and monster, with 6 of them I managed to kill the lion who has 3 up inv, their ability is just really reliable throw a captain in & maybe biologist you just delete monsters or vehicles
I like the gladiator and Ballistus as dedicated anti-tank if I run into terminators and other elites I'd tend to send my death Comapny in as they have volume of attacks to get around the invul my current list is 2 gladiators and a repulsor executioner as my local meta does bring a lot of armour and I tend to throw a 5 man squad of dc with a chaplian to trade for a termie unit or other elites but I run SOS so slow units are a struggle to get where I need them as I'm not running the libby dred ATM either Plus it took me 5ever to paint up 6 assault centurions and im not down for another 6 shooty bois right now lmao
Movement should be noted, both the Lancer and Dread move double or more than double, so not only is there the cost of the Centurions you have to have something to move them about, i.e. transport or Libby dread so it increases the cost. Two Lancers or Two Ballistus are cheaper than 3 Centurions and a transport/and or Libby Dread. Of course you can move other stuff with the Libby Dread but the Centurions have really had movement as well as worse toughness.
I play assault centurions all the time and their shooting has great synergy with the storm speeder Thunderstrike. I imagine the Cent Devs would work super well too, especially if the Lib dread is putting them jn the right spot!
If I ever visited the UK, could we meet up to play? Hobby Goals: enhance my painting skills high enough to seal all my models with varnish. I've only put 3 to 4 colors on each model. I constantly go back and work on models as I learn more painting skills.
I have two goals this year. The first is to rank in the top half of one of The local quarterly RTT’s. The second of which is to have a certain amount painted Every month. I have the list made up, but I’m not going to share it here because it’s a little lengthy.
I would just like to start getting some proper games in this year, been so long, what with where I live and where my gaming mates do, along with kids, ageing parents and all that making things hard for all of us.
biggest downside is the slow movement of the centurions imo. (also the models :))At least they have options for transport / teleporting though. Tried a lancer yesterday and it was just very swingy.
Isn’t the real point of these lists - not to decide the absolute best unit in all scenarios but to ensure your list has sufficient tools to deal with whatever an opponent might throw at you? Lancer for hard targets, macro plasma redemptor dread for termies and a glad reaper for hordes - you need to build balance into your list 👍👍
My goal for 2024 is to return to the competitive scene in my area. With the birth of my son i put 40k aside for the past years and now i want to Come back in the game.
Should also point out though that if you lose 4-5 wounds on a Dread or Lancer you don't lose anything but wounds, but Centurions 4 wounds taken could mean they kill a whole centurion and a third of your firepower is gone
@@ToddGrindle Not really because Lancer is S14, AP4 and D6+3, not 12 Ap3, D6+1, Lancer is doing minimum 8 damage from two shots and can re-roll them, so on average is doing more like 13-14 with two pens and it is wounding T12 vehicles on 3s, not 4s. The Centurions are only competing because volume of fire, as soon as you lose a model they are far weaker than either the Dread or Lancer.
@@tajj7 I think your 8 number is off... relook at johns numbers for damage against different targets. Definitely not doing 13-14 if that is what you are trying to indicate. With the centurions missiles I think you will find the damage output to be comparable..
@@ToddGrindle I was responding to the comment above about it being 'just two lascannons' and the above comment saying that is the same as the two centurions but it is not, basically saying that two shots (if hit etc.) from the Lancer are a lot more than the two lascannons from the cents. Point is the Cents are a lot less resilient than the Lancer or Dread, and together with that less resilience when they lose wounds, they start losing firepower as well because you lose a model which doesn't happen with the two vehicles. Yeh the Cents have a bit more all round firepower than those two units, but they pay for it by being way less tougher and super less mobile, whilst also being more expensive.
My goal is to play an all terminator list in a narrative game against tyranids reinacting the last stand of the ultramarines 1st company. I’d love to attend a tournament too
Ran Centurion Devs and a Ballistus with Librarian Dread in Vanguard and their 4 inch movement was not a problem at all. Minimum 36" range and Turn 3 used Guerilla Tactics strat to take them off the board and reposition for a better firing angle on more targets. They even got the 9 inch charge because Blood Angels
I’m not investing money in a bunch of models that will most likely cease to exist in 11th edition. I already have 6 assault centurions, I’m not keen on pumping more money into a unit whose days are numbered. Perhaps it’s not optimal, but I will stick with tanks/dreads.
Who says their days are numbered?? Theyre still a good unit but theres always "meta" when the marine list is so huge. Deva cents rock in anvil and assault cents rock in firestorm And they didnt come out that long ago; gw is phasing out REALLY old models
I think an important consideration is that centurions degrade as they get destroyed. Unlike vehicles, they lose a huge % of their damage at each break point.
@tonynaranjo2982 That is fair. Those weapons are also less effective into a vehicles because of the higher toughness/save/invuln though. The lancer's strongest weapon is 4-9, meaning if both shots get through they're still only at a 66% chance to kill with them, and they're very unlikely to get both of those through. But one is likely to get through, and is guaranteed to drop a centurion if it does and reduce the squad power by 1/3rd or 1/6th for a double squad. I personally do prefer the Centurians, it's just an important factor to consider in list building.
