Yes...the souq brings some magical vibes isn't it? It puts you back in those ancient times and makes you dreamy. If only I hv a travel machine and pops in there this instance! 😄😄
actually no one wear a scarf like that... I mean in Islam the scarf must cover the hair, and the rest of the body should be covered also, if u wear a scarf in the neck and show ur hair and arms isn't according to islam already btw, the way she dressed is more like a fashion than cultural or religious something 🙆💁 there's much more deeper details than this in the traditional or religious way to dress in Egypt, as to dont show the jeans and wear skirts or something that doesnt shape the body and curves, as to dont show the arms... but as a tourist, in a touristic place as khan khalili actually it doesn't matter a lot, she could be with no scar and no one would feel annoyed for that, is completely normal in some cities and places to dont follow this rules for dressing as red sea..
@@BrasileiranoEgito You're right of course about the ideal way of dressing in Islam, but here I just respected that at least she thought of covering a bit since she's in a Muslim country, where most women either cover their heads and bodies or just covering the bodies. And yes, I know she's covering kinda "casually" as a form of respect to the country's culture or religion, but still not all people do that (even covering a little bit).

Really interesting! How did you get around? Walking or something else? It looks like most of the old section you visited is a compact area but then at the end you were at a southern gate which sounds like it is further away.
We walked everywhere. It is all pretty close together. The bit between the north and south gate is about a mile or maybe a bit more. Cairo is huge but the islamic quarter / old city is much smaller :)

Ten points to Gryffindor. I loved that you referenced the Room of Requirement. We visited Egypt in October 2021 and shopped in the Khan El Kahlili. I only regret not having had more time there. Egyptian people are so friendly and outgoing. Mint tea is so good. We were served tea at the Red Pyramid. So unexpected! You MUST be watchful for the scooters while you are in the Khan. In minute 12:10, a white building appeared and its dome was green. This is the grave of an Egyptian man whose name is Hassan El Zuk. its very old story since hundreds of years. This person was an old man from Cairo (a social reformer) who reconciled between the litigants and broke up the quarrel between the people in Cairo .. Once day after many attempts he ended the problems in Cairo and peace prevailed among the people, he felt helpless and he could not eliminate all the problems of society, so he decided to leave and travel Away from Cairo, and while he was leaving the Cairo Gate .. He suddenly died from the sadness of his separation from Cairo, so the people decided to be buried in the same place of his sudden death, and we have (the popular example) saying that, El Zuk did not go out from Egypt In the end, do you know what a word means EL Zuk means in Arabic (respect, hospitality, welcome, good morals, etc.)
Wow I did the Bazarr but did not know about the old gates that are nearby. The Bazarr was a little overwhelming and I only had 30 minutes in there. I plan to go back maybe next year.
I wait for you to visit the oldest area in the earth , it was called Tiba within the Pharaohs ancient Egyptians and now it's Luxor has more Temples and Tombs...

When I was in the US Army I was stationed as permanent party for a year in the Sinai with the Multinational Force and Observers during 1987-88. I loved going to Cairo. With all the noise it was nice to get back to the desert after three days but loved it there. The Khan was cool for several reasons. I remember the first time I was walking up stone steps that were so dished in and it hit me that the stone was worn possibly from hundreds, if not a thousand years of foot traffic. We had our favorite shops and they got to know us. As MFO they knew we would come back a few times and bring new people so they took care of us. Warm people. I got to know one of the guys by the pyramids and sphinx. We would go riding around the pyramids. I would love to visit Cairo again and spend some time there. I still remember sitting in shops and having that syrupy sweet, mint tea. As the owner at the Green Palace perfume shop told one of our guys who didn't want anything to drink. "You are free to choose, but not refuse." If you got to the Sinai I hope you got to spend some time at El Arish. We had a favorite shop there too.

Dear friend, al-Azhar wasn't the 1st mosque built in Cairo .. it is the mosque of Amr ibn al-As the 1st mosque built not only in Egypt but in the whole Africa about 1400 years ago. (641-642 AD)
I went to khan el khalili many times since am Egyptian but never saw this aladdin area with so many lamps 😂 Is this deeper inside after passing the spices shops ?
If you're standing in front of the Al Hussein mosque facing it, we took the street leading to the left of it (going west). 5mins later you will see a gate to your left, it is around this area.
It was filmed about a week ago. The weather is sunny and about 20 degrees celsius in the daytime. After the sun goes down it gets pretty chilly but the days are beautiful!

Nee winterkleren hebben we typisch niet bij. 1-2 lange broeken en 1 pull en een regenjasje. Als he koud is veel laagjes over elkaar aan doen. Of niet naar te koude plekken gaan ;) Winterkleren nemen superveel plaats in en het is bijna onmogelijk om deze mee te nemen.
Is it true that Cairo is dangerous for women, especially tourists? I heard so many saying that rape is rampant there. I've always wanted to visit Cairo, but I'm a bit hesitant because of the things I hear from some tourists and even female locals.

yes it is :) they are pretty common. Most traditional Egyptian cafes we have seen in Egypt in general seem to offer some.

We find Cairo is a city you can just keep on going to. We could stay 3 months and not get bored.

We didn't have winter jackets. We wore our windbreakers in Romania that we always bring and then a sweater + layers of t shirts 😊

Nee winterkleren hebben we typisch niet bij. 1-2 lange broeken en 1 pull en een regenjasje. Als he koud is veel laagjes over elkaar aan doen. Of niet naar te koude plekken gaan ;)
Winterkleren nemen superveel plaats in en het is bijna onmogelijk om deze mee te nemen.
