Thank you so much. I would love to share this with every brother and sister but there seems to be a Laodicean spirit growing among many that I know. I'm watching this 9 years after you posted this video. For me personally I love hearing the history and would love if my memory were better. I also appreciate the fact you did not disrespect one person's preference over another's preference in which translation they use - you just gave us the facts. Thank you. I prefer the ESV but also use the RSV and KJV and NASB and CSB and enjoy bible hub's free use of multiple translations of verses side by side. It shows modern and early translations such as Geneva, Bishop's and Coverdale bibles. Amazing how they're all the word and help us to see history and also man's attempts to show the imperfect trying to understand the One who is perfect as the Word.
I really like the 1599 Geneva Bible that predates the KJV by 12 years. Also my pre-1800 Matthew Henry Commentary is wonderful. The pre-disspensational, pre-futurist, and pre-rapture doctrin world is a wonderful place to be!
Excellent information in this video. The history of the Bible is fascinating. I use many different Bible translations. I use the NLT for everyday reading because of the way it flows. I tend to memorize scripture from the ESV because it is usually so concise. I love the Complete Jewish Bible because it uses the real name of Jesus, Yeshua, and all of the other names of people and places are original language. There are many great translations.
I don't know where you came up with the idea that the thing created in those verses was an angel but that's not what this is talking about. This a literary device know as a encomium. The encomium is a composition in praise of either an abstract quality or a general character type. Proverbs 8 has all of the familiar motifs on an encomium. In verses 22-31, we find the motif of the ancient and distinguished ancestry of wisdom, which was present from the beginning and even participated in the creation of the world. Proverbs 3:19 tells us propositionally that “the Lord by wisdom founded the earth.” Proverbs 8 turns that statement into a fictional narrative in which a personified wisdom was present at the creation of the world. It is as simple as that.

Just that he made the "1st steps towards" or that he "signaled to start of" something It's not actually a name for Jesus in the bible. (It's a title in Revelation that Jesus holds as the creator) It's also used for the King of Babylon in Daniel. (and some argue Daniel is referring to the devil)
Being brought up a Protestant in England in the post WW2 era, I was brought up with the King James version, and never had any problems understanding it. I suspect that your father's problem was that he was an American, and not classically educated. In recent years I've been comparing versions in Dutch and French, and there are many instances of different translations compared with the English version. I don't know any Classical Greek, and my knowledge of Latin is limited, so I have to assume that those who performed the translation knew the languages fluently. Since the Bible is supposed to be the Word of God, I have to question if any of them are.
Great comments. I fail to understand why many of the comments are so much against people reading the Bible in their own language. I just realized that the King James version appears to give honour to a king whose only desire was to use the Bible for his own selfish purposes. I have no doubt that God has used that particular translation for His own purposes but why the insistence on bringing honour to king james. Only one King. Jesus.

There are disagreement among many highly esteemed scholars if these scriptures were added or not. The nlt @ least prominently footnotes them. They don't hide the exclusion. I see that as a good compromise..Blessings, Toni's husband
@debbiethomas5812 Because since the 1500s it's been discovered that that verse was added into the text of Matthew during while hand copying. (Most likely taken from a verse in Mark about the same event.) Since it isn't originally in Matthew's gospel, it gets left out of newer Greek printings and by extension, out of translations based on them. The numbers are left the same so they keep the same references. I recommend the NET bible with full notes for this kind of question since the translator notes are the best source for textual information outside of getting a degree for Hebrew, Greek, and Aramaic to translate it for yourself.
When I compared the NLT with the KJV, I was shocked at what the NLT people did. 2 Tim 2:15 tells the reader to Study to shew thyself approved unto God, a WORKMAN that needeth not be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth. This commandment was not followed with the NLT. These men took it upon themselves to decide what God's word says, not the preserved word that has been around for 400 years.
Sorry to tell you this but the word "study" didn't mean the same thing in 1611. It meant to be diligent. Which is exactly what the Greek word in Timothy means too. The KJV and modern versions are all correct and saying the same thing. You just misunderstood the KJV.
I'm a student of Religions, but no further credentials. My own opinion is that most people want to put too fine a point on their belief. In my experience, I've mostly been Christian and sadly it looks like a nice person becomes a nice Christian, and the mean person becomes a mean Christian. That makes me sad. Far too often I see folk wanting to use their beliefs to reject or punish others, having completely forgotten that God is the Judge, we are the servants, or slaves as in Islam. I like the idea of being siblings of Jesus the Christ better. I've had Amish exposure, was Fundy Christian for 33 years, Muslim for 9 years, and Mormon for 5 years. These days I just try to be nice and loving to others. I'm probably just an Abrahamic Religionist who believes in the sacrifice of Jesus. I only go to Church for the Sacrament, worship God, and fellowship with others. I'm 73.

Thank God for the Bibles from Tyndale to the King James, and the other vernacular Bibles of the reformation. They were houses built on the rock foundation of the proper Mazoretic O.T. (Bomberg 1525, Ben Chayyim) and the printed T.R. of Erasmus, Stephanus, and Beza for the N.T. After 1881, however, they have all been houses built on Egyptian sand, and therefore will not stand. So we stand on the rock of God's Book, the King James, and eschew modern socalled textual critics, right from Griesbach to the great blasphemer of God's word Mr. White. sjurdurkjv have you heard of the "October [new] testament" of the "new Matthew bible"? This new testament is part of a project to "restore" the Matthew bible by using tyndale and the Matthew bible with help from coverdale and a touch of wycliffe, then gently updating them so that they can be more easily understood by today's reader. When compared with tyndale, just a few verses in there can be seen as messed with.
The King James translators come from the 11th and 12th centuries. We have since discovered many older and more reliable manuscripts, which are closer to the original writings of the Bible authors. By comparing the earlier manuscripts to the later ones, we can see how the flourishes and additions of scribes can corrupt a text over time, leading us to believe that many of the “Alexandrian manuscripts” are closer to the originals and the majority of Byzantine texts altered. The textual issue is actually a smokescreen which hides the true reason for rejecting modern versions.

John 1:13 NLT "13 They are reborn-not with a physical birth resulting from human passion or plan, but a birth that comes from God. I think its pretty simple to know if your translation is correct...or the right one for you... Does your bible know who killed Goliath? Does it say Jesus is the only begotten Son of God or does it say the One and only Son of God..if it says the one and only son and then in the front of that same bible says Adam was the son of God and that men are the sons of God..then your bible is a fake bible.. so simple.. but if you really want to check it out..see if your Bible says Jesus is a sinner..if your bible says you are in fear of Judgement if you get angry at your brothers.. because Jesus was often angry.. or does your bible say angry for No reason.. well that makes it ok to be righteously angry..like I am at all the fake bibles put out in print in the last 60 years..

@@kingston163 You're saying "your truth" (and not "the truth"). JW used KJV in the past, as well as they use many other translations of the Bible. This is not the place to explain all that is good, (and very good), and what is wrong with the KJV, and why JW decided to do their own translation. But the reasons are different from what you mention (in a clearly biased way). All translations have errors or points that could be improved and KJV it is not the exeption, (neither is NWT), but NWT is an excellent translation. Very precise, modern and easy to read. Our Father said that he would preserve his Word so we must believe that he has. So which copy is the one he preserved? logic would point us to believe that God would give the English speaking people one perfectly translated and preserved Bible, not a few hundred that dont agree with one another. This 17th century Anglican Bible has held up my brother and is internationally known to be the example for perfection in English prose, though it is written at an fourth grade reading level.

because they are using a different translation of Acts. There is no conspiracy. The TR and the other Majority, and the 'critical' text, with all the older manuscripts, etc., are not that much different from the TR, even though there are many differences in some grammar points, and the last chapters of Mark and Revelation, and the first 11 verses of John chapter 8.

Thank you so much. I would love to share this with every brother and sister but there seems to be a Laodicean spirit growing among many that I know. I'm watching this 9 years after you posted this video. For me personally I love hearing the history and would love if my memory were better. I also appreciate the fact you did not disrespect one person's preference over another's preference in which translation they use - you just gave us the facts. Thank you. I prefer the ESV but also use the RSV and KJV and NASB and CSB and enjoy bible hub's free use of multiple translations of verses side by side. It shows modern and early translations such as Geneva, Bishop's and Coverdale bibles. Amazing how they're all the word and help us to see history and also man's attempts to show the imperfect trying to understand the One who is perfect as the Word.

I really like the 1599 Geneva Bible that predates the KJV by 12 years. Also my pre-1800 Matthew Henry Commentary is wonderful. The pre-disspensational, pre-futurist, and pre-rapture doctrin world is a wonderful place to be!

Excellent information in this video. The history of the Bible is fascinating. I use many different Bible translations. I use the NLT for everyday reading because of the way it flows. I tend to memorize scripture from the ESV because it is usually so concise. I love the Complete Jewish Bible because it uses the real name of Jesus, Yeshua, and all of the other names of people and places are original language.

I don't know where you came up with the idea that the thing created in those verses was an angel but that's not what this is talking about. This a literary device know as a encomium. The encomium is a composition in praise of either an abstract quality or a general character type. Proverbs 8 has all of the familiar motifs on an encomium. In verses 22-31, we find the motif of the ancient and distinguished ancestry of wisdom, which was present from the beginning and even participated in the creation of the world.
Proverbs 3:19 tells us propositionally that “the Lord by wisdom founded the earth.” Proverbs 8 turns that statement into a fictional narrative in which a personified wisdom was present at the creation of the world. It is as simple as that.

It's not actually a name for Jesus in the bible. (It's a title in Revelation that Jesus holds as the creator)
It's also used for the King of Babylon in Daniel. (and some argue Daniel is referring to the devil)
Being brought up a Protestant in England in the post WW2 era, I was brought up with the King James version, and never had any problems understanding it. I suspect that your father's problem was that he was an American, and not classically educated. In recent years I've been comparing versions in Dutch and French, and there are many instances of different translations compared with the English version. I don't know any Classical Greek, and my knowledge of Latin is limited, so I have to assume that those who performed the translation knew the languages fluently.
Since the Bible is supposed to be the Word of God, I have to question if any of them are.

Great comments. I fail to understand why many of the comments are so much against people reading the Bible in their own language. I just realized that the King James version appears to give honour to a king whose only desire was to use the Bible for his own selfish purposes. I have no doubt that God has used that particular translation for His own purposes but why the insistence on bringing honour to king james. Only one King. Jesus.

Because since the 1500s it's been discovered that that verse was added into the text of Matthew during while hand copying. (Most likely taken from a verse in Mark about the same event.)
Since it isn't originally in Matthew's gospel, it gets left out of newer Greek printings and by extension, out of translations based on them.
The numbers are left the same so they keep the same references.
I recommend the NET bible with full notes for this kind of question since the translator notes are the best source for textual information outside of getting a degree for Hebrew, Greek, and Aramaic to translate it for yourself.
When I compared the NLT with the KJV, I was shocked at what the NLT people did. 2 Tim 2:15 tells the reader to Study to shew thyself approved unto God, a WORKMAN that needeth not be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth. This commandment was not followed with the NLT. These men took it upon themselves to decide what God's word says, not the preserved word that has been around for 400 years.

I'm a student of Religions, but no further credentials. My own opinion is that most people want to put too fine a point on their belief. In my experience, I've mostly been Christian and sadly it looks like a nice person becomes a nice Christian, and the mean person becomes a mean Christian. That makes me sad.
Far too often I see folk wanting to use their beliefs to reject or punish others, having completely forgotten that God is the Judge, we are the servants, or slaves as in Islam. I like the idea of being siblings of Jesus the Christ better.
I've had Amish exposure, was Fundy Christian for 33 years, Muslim for 9 years, and Mormon for 5 years. These days I just try to be nice and loving to others. I'm probably just an Abrahamic Religionist who believes in the sacrifice of Jesus. I only go to Church for the Sacrament, worship God, and fellowship with others. I'm 73.

sjurdurkjv have you heard of the "October [new] testament" of the "new Matthew bible"? This new testament is part of a project to "restore" the Matthew bible by using tyndale and the Matthew bible with help from coverdale and a touch of wycliffe, then gently updating them so that they can be more easily understood by today's reader. When compared with tyndale, just a few verses in there can be seen as messed with.
The King James translators come from the 11th and 12th centuries. We have since discovered many older and more reliable manuscripts, which are closer to the original writings of the Bible authors. By comparing the earlier manuscripts to the later ones, we can see how the flourishes and additions of scribes can corrupt a text over time, leading us to believe that many of the “Alexandrian manuscripts” are closer to the originals and the majority of Byzantine texts altered. The textual issue is actually a smokescreen which hides the true reason for rejecting modern versions.

If that bread were literal then the disciples had every reason to believe that Jesus was being literal about the leaven and he therefore had no reason to chide them. But that bread being symbolic he chided them for not considering and taking to heart his teachings even after the third time of bringing up the subject. That teaching was what I am showing you now.
The bible (KJV) says that Jesus followed no will of his own but the will of God.

The New Testament brings meat to the scriptures, represented by the two fishes.
The meat is the symbolic code and patterns that bring/bind all scripture in the bible (KJV) together.

It has been 2 thousand years since Jesus, so each fish represents 1 thousand years. In turn the five loaves of bread represent 5 thousand years that God gave his laws to man.

This gives us a glimpse of Gods timeline. 7 thousand years ago Adam was kicked out of the garden. It also shows us that we are at the end of our time on this earth;
13 … and in the earthquake were slain of men seven thousand: and the remnant were affrighted, and gave glory to the God of heaven. Rev 11:13 (KJV)
What does all this prove? It proves that the stories in the bible (KJV) aren’t meant to be taken literally. Also different parts of the hidden truths and patterns are written by different authors hundreds and thousands of years apart show that the bible (KJV) is the preserved word of God orchestrated, compiled, and translated by him and the Holy Ghost.
It tells us that the bible speaks of itself and that it is for OUR admonition.

It tells us its message is hidden in the fables, parables, and stories through symbolism.
And above all it gives us a major key in unlocking the hidden timeline and agenda of God. That key is that the following verse is meant to be taken as literal.

So taking 2 Peter 3:8 (KJV) as literal tells us that each creation day is 1k years.

Another thing that shows the creation days are 1k yrs. is if you take the phrase “the evening and the morning” and do a search verbatim of the whole bible (KJV) the only verse that comes up other than the creation days is;
26 And the vision of the evening and the morning which was told is true: wherefore shut thou up the vision; for it shall be for many days. Dan 8:26 (KJV)
There is no way the events of the vision it speaks of could happen in one 24 hour period.

Why didn’t/doesn’t/wouldn’t satan read scripture the way the world does and NOT do what is prophesied of him and make God and his word unreliable?
It is impossible to believe that an angel of high order and his untold number of followers (“1/3rd of the heavenly angels” as taught) are too stupid to realize the simplicity of this ploy that would make God and his word unreliable.
It is also impossible to believe that God would risk his sovereignty on the whiles of an emotionally and/or mentally unstable being.

The answer is given in the 16th chapter where Jesus speaks of the leaven of the Pharisees.

11 How is it that ye do not understand that I spake it not to you concerning bread, that ye should beware of the leaven of the Pharisees and of the Sadducees?
12 Then understood they how that he bade them not beware of the leaven of bread, but of the doctrine of the Pharisees and of the Sadducees. Matt 16:6-12 (KJV).
If that bread were literal then the disciples had every reason to believe that Jesus was being literal about the leaven and he therefore had no reason to chide them. But that bread being symbolic he chided them for not considering and taking to heart his teachings even after the third time of bringing up the subject. That teaching was what I am showing you now.
The bible (KJV) says that Jesus followed no will of his own but the will of God.
38 For I came down from heaven, not to do mine own will, but the will of him that sent me. John 6:38 (KJV)
His life in the flesh is an ensample (representation) of God's laws. Jesus says that bread represents his flesh (his life) which in turn represents God's law (the bread of life).

The New Testament brings meat to the scriptures, represented by the two fishes.
The meat is the symbolic code and patterns that bring/bind all scripture in the bible (KJV) together.

It has been 2 thousand years since Jesus, so each fish represents 1 thousand years. In turn the five loaves of bread represent 5 thousand years that God gave his laws to man.

This gives us a glimpse of Gods timeline. 7 thousand years ago Adam was kicked out of the garden. It also shows us that we are at the end of our time on this earth;

What does all this prove? It proves that the stories in the bible (KJV) aren’t meant to be taken literally, per se. Also different parts of the hidden truths and patterns are written by different authors hundreds and thousands of years apart show that the bible (KJV) is the preserved word of God orchestrated, compiled, and translated by him and the Holy Ghost.
It tells us that the bible speaks of itself and that it is for OUR admonition.

It tells us its message is hidden in the fables, parables, and stories through symbolism.

Another thing that shows the creation days are 1k yrs. is if you take the phrase “the evening and the morning” and do a search verbatim of the whole bible (KJV) the only verse that comes up other than the creation days is;
26 And the vision of the evening and the morning which was told is true: wherefore shut thou up the vision; for it shall be for many days. Dan 8:26 (KJV)
There is no way the events of the vision it speaks of could happen in one 24 hour period.

I think its pretty simple to know if your translation is correct...or the right one for you... Does your bible know who killed Goliath? Does it say Jesus is the only begotten Son of God or does it say the One and only Son of God..if it says the one and only son and then in the front of that same bible says Adam was the son of God and that men are the sons of God..then your bible is a fake bible.. so simple.. but if you really want to check it out..see if your Bible says Jesus is a sinner..if your bible says you are in fear of Judgement if you get angry at your brothers.. because Jesus was often angry.. or does your bible say angry for No reason.. well that makes it ok to be righteously angry..like I am at all the fake bibles put out in print in the last 60 years..

@@kingston163 You're saying "your truth" (and not "the truth"). JW used KJV in the past, as well as they use many other translations of the Bible. This is not the place to explain all that is good, (and very good), and what is wrong with the KJV, and why JW decided to do their own translation. But the reasons are different from what you mention (in a clearly biased way).
All translations have errors or points that could be improved and KJV it is not the exeption, (neither is NWT), but NWT is an excellent translation. Very precise, modern and easy to read. And is very,... very accurate in most of the texts that presents a conflict of doctrine You should investigate more. Today there are many translations of the Bible, which translate, (the most conflicting passages); In a similar way to the one that translates NWT. And there are many scholars, linguists and Biblicists, (no JW), who agree with the way of translating of NWT. (But that is something that your pastor will never tell you in your church and is something that your bishops or pastors of your church will never recognize!!!
@@kingston163 Let me tell you that I respect the KJV as a good translation, but,... to say that, it is the perfect word of God in English, (or a perfect translation of the Bible in English), is not only incorrect but is totally absurd, it's resisting logic and reasoning. The KJV is just a translation of the Bible, made by men, subject to error. Based on the available texts in the 16th and 17th century and with a knowledge of the Hebrew and Greek grammar inferior to the knowledge there are now.
Again, this is not the place to discuss the accuracy of ancient Greek texts and manuscripts such as the Alejandrino, the Vatican and the Sinaitic; and on the various master texts in Greek, like the texts of Griesbach, Wescott- Hort and Nestle-Aland. But let me tell you that among the many errors of KJV this ' the fact that it replaces more than 6800 times, the personal name of God, (in the form of the Tetragramaton: YHWH), and tracduce it "LORD" generating a deep confusion in the people who read it, about the identity of God and Confusing the Sovereign Lord Yahweh with the Lord Jesus. (only to mark one of the terrible errors of that translation).
How about the original Vulgate? It was the one true Bible before men started "protesting" it as not right. It was quite right for 1100 years.
Vulgate came from Septuagint...a corrupt text from Alexandria Egipt....trust Jerusalem, Antioch texts....

Our Father said that he would preserve his Word so we must believe that he has. So which copy is the one he preserved? logic would point us to believe that God would give the English speaking people one perfectly translated and preserved Bible, not a few hundred that dont agree with one another. This 17th century Anglican Bible has held up my brother and is internationally known to be the example for perfection in English prose, though it is written at an fourth grade reading level.

because they are using a different translation of Acts. There is no conspiracy. The TR and the other Majority, and the 'critical' text, with all the older manuscripts, etc., are not that much different from the TR, even though there are many differences in some grammar points, and the last chapters of Mark and Revelation, and the first 11 verses of John chapter 8.
