    There's so few guides to doing your own Shishi Odoshi, and it's so great the attention to detail. Thanks for taking the time to show us your labor of love project. I especially loved your idea to add cherry wood to compliment your piece.

      He did like it which was a relief because he is not really the homemade gift sort of dude.

    This video has my curiosity roused. I will check out more.
    I plan on making one of these in my meditation garden that will double as a water source for the dogs.
    I love the " use what ya got" approach. That plus some craftsmanship usually delivers uniquely beautiful pieces.
    Thanks for sharing.
    Sincerely,
    COOP.

    A great project and location was nice. He must have been so happy. I would have gone for a thicker Bamboo for a deeper sound, yet imagine that you get very used to it after a month.
    Thanks for sharing 🙏😊

    This is truly lovely. Beautiful to look at, and it has a pleasant sound to me. Some diy jobs have an almost constant clacking which would annoy a person to death. Great work!

    It the diameter of the bamboo ! That is why your sound is off . You need 1 ¹/2 to 2 in for acdeep hallow sound .

    Always amazed how many tutorial makers use power tools with their fingers so dangerously close to the blades.

    • @HoneyBadgerWoodWorks
      @HoneyBadgerWoodWorks  ปีที่แล้ว

      My fingers are not dangerously close to the blade. I use a push stick with anything too skinny. The problem is, and just about every woodworker I see on here has said the same thing. The depth perception of the camera can be very deceiving, making it appear that the operators fingers are closer to the blade then they actually are.

    • @robiberg3464
      @robiberg3464 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@HoneyBadgerWoodWorks
      😅sure. You didn’t and can’t use a push stick with a hand circular saw as I watched with the clear camera angle at minute 1:30 on cutting the cherry. As you use your thumb to lift the guard with your fingers in front of the blade and then proceed to hold the wood with your hand directly next to the cut’s pass.
      I used to do similar stuff, until a blade jumped from its intended path and the Horsepower of the motor’s force & kick back that can’t be stopped by arm strength put me in the ER.
      A close call or accident may be what it takes to teach you a bit of humility… since “just about every woodworker” hasn’t been able to get you to understand. Until then keep showing people who don’t know the danger how to use the tools wrong. 🤙🏻

    • @HoneyBadgerWoodWorks
      @HoneyBadgerWoodWorks  ปีที่แล้ว

      And what I am saying is my fingers are never directly in front of the blade when it is on, and because of changes in depth perception from 3D life to a 2D image it looks like my fingers are closer to the blade then they actually are. I am not arguing with you and safety because it can happen to anyone, even the people who practice the strictest safety protocol. What I am saying, and it's my hand and I filmed the video is it's not as close as it appears. I just pulled my saw out, positioned my fingers in the exact same way and measured with a tape. I'm at just about 6 inches away. In the video it looks to be no more than two. I never said I cut like every woodworker. I said most woodworkers I have seen on here get similar comments about fingers and blade closeness and they all respond the same way. Which is they aren't as close as them appear.

  • @olwynfreeman3661

    Beautiful work! To get a more bass ( lower hollow) tone, you'd need larger diameter tube.

    • @HoneyBadgerWoodWorks
      @HoneyBadgerWoodWorks  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hey thanks! I think I have a little room for a larger diameter tube so I'm gonna try swapping them out. Thanks for the advise!

    I’ve been looking around and I reckon your design is probably the nicest. A fair bit of work but worth the effort. Not sure if I will go to as much trouble as you.. May dispense with the rocking piece and probably add a bigger cistern as it is surprising how much water disappears out of the system with splashing, evaporation and the wind.. Thank you. I like your work.

    • @HoneyBadgerWoodWorks
      @HoneyBadgerWoodWorks  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yeah, I was also surprised by how much water disappears and a bigger bucket would be nice.

    Have you tried putting another piece of bamboo for the pivot branch to strike? That might get the deeper sound you were expecting.

    • @HoneyBadgerWoodWorks
      @HoneyBadgerWoodWorks  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Someone in the comments said the diameter needs to increase to get a deeper sound. Might try that out once winter is over.

    i think that ,instead of using a rock where the bamboo hits,to use another bamboo rode,the sound would be nicer and more relaxing,now just try and see how it should be the piece that gets hited,longer,shorter,with both sides opened,just 1,thicker or thinner

  • @gilbertslalaland4986

    Absolutely beautiful …
    You have an amazing talent .
    Do or would you sell one ?

    • @HoneyBadgerWoodWorks
      @HoneyBadgerWoodWorks  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I wouldn't be against selling one of these, but this isn't really conducive to remote sales. There was a lot of on-site testing and installation in order to get this working properly. So the buyer would have to be willing to do that all themselves, which could then it turn be a liability for myself the seller.

    The less tone comes from using a lesser diameter stick, I think. If you use a bamboo stick with a larger diameter, it'll sound better

      It's part of an old rain chain, and it was already my dad's and he was no longer using it, so I repurposed it into this. I think you can get them on Amazon, but this one was all copper so it's pricey.
