One thing I do appreciate about the Bourbon-Tube community... they all seem very ready to collaborate and work together. No egos about channel sizes (yet).
This was wild, seeing my hometown pop up in your bourbon hunts. I'm so happy y'all picked up the Detrick Rye! That's distilled locally in Dayton OH, all four barrels are 4-7 years old. Middle West is good too, distilled in Columbus, and it's a 4+ year old bourbon.
Well I'll be dipped.. I'm from Talladega, Alabama, but currently live in Dayton, Ohio.. We do get a lot of Weller here. If you're willing to wait in line and keep up with the truck delivery days you can definitely score a few bottles of Weller 107 every other month and several bottles of Weller special reserve every month...
As an Ohio native if you want Weller you have to be in line at the stores at drop days. You can find it if you know the distribution days and drop times (typically 9 am at open). I don't hunt all that much but have been able to get plenty of special reserve and a couple 107s at my local GE on Saturdays. Plenty of Ohio groups that you can find the store drop days in Ohio. Just know get there early as some people will be out the night before waiting depending on what is rumored to be dropping that day.
He calls and does all that he knows how it works. The point of these videos is to find stuff out on the wild, which still does happen at those stores. It’s the same release day process pretty much everywhere across the country and then he’s going out and finding random bottles or ones a store held back and decides to put out silently after dropday etc. And we’ve seen plenty of times in these videos he creates that relationship with a store owner that is going to pay off in the future
@grapeape1965 dosen't work like that in ohio and store relationships mean nothing here. The ohlq site tells you what they have so hunting is worthless and you wont find hidden bottles.
You MUST go to the Century Bar in downtown Dayton next time you're here. They're voted Top 5 Bourbon Bar in the Nation. They have over 800 bottles to choose from. All the Pappy and Weller and such
I am from Columbus. That's where Middle West Spirits is. You have to try the Middle West Michelone Reserve. It is one of my faves. Surprisingly good. Solid caramely and sweet undertones with a strong finish
Columbus local also and love their dark pumpernickel rye. Funny thing is last time I was at Northwest Wine and Spirits they had 3 cases of WSR on the floor barely touched
As an Ohioan, I love weller, I do. It's easier to get here at MSRP than most places. I also enjoy the bottle lotteries to get the expensive stuff at MSRP. But part of me is jealous at the diversity other places have. Things like Bluenote, Starlight, etc that are staples most other places we don't have here.
If I'm honest, you aren't missing much with Blue Note or Starlight (sorry fans). They are fine but most bourbon drinkers in other states wouldn't be as interested in them if they had more access to allocated BT products. That said, I don't prefer wheated profiles or lower proof bottles. I prefer my whiskey with rye and more proof so I'm not too sad that I only find Weller SR, Eagle Rare, or Blantons every few months - I don't drink them much. There are some great bottles from smaller and more regional distilleries but you can just drive to Indiana and find anything and everything you could ever want from the non BT distilleries. Most of them have distribution in Indiana since a large chunk use Indiana juice.
I went to three locations of the same liquor store. At the last one I went to, the guys there were more than willing to let me know they had Weller, Buffalo Trace, Eagle Rare, and other hard to find bottles “in the back”. They were told by management to keep them for the local bars. However, the local university is out for summer and cash is king, so I cleaned them out of many bottles at retail prices.
It wasn't until I started drinking bourbon, that I realized how much of a tight knit community it is. I do electrical work and it amazes me how many of my customers drink bourbon/whiskey and how many of them give bottles as gifts. I love the whiskey community. Cheers everyone! ❤🥃🥃
You are experiencing what us Ohioans go through all the time. Basically no BTAC unless you learn the allocation days and line up a couple of hours before opening. I was 20th in line once. By the time I got to the front they were out of EH Taylor and Weller 107, and that is limit 1 per person. I settled for Weller Special Reserve with the funky aftertaste. Middle West Spirits is pretty good btw. One good thing about the liquor in Ohio: Same price across the State. Ran by the State Liquor Agency.
Yes I live in north east Ohio and there's a store around here that gets a few special bottles. It's a smaller town but they will usually order what customers want. So you'll always be able to get a few bottles of what you usually get whenever you want.
That Hayner you passed on is bottled in Troy Ohio. Its a blend of MGP and Bardstown. It is supposed to be based on an original recipe from the Hayner Family. Pretty good stuff and the Rye they have is really good as well.
Im from dayton and have been watching you for a while. It was really cool to see you make a video in my city! Fine wine and spirits has a weekly allocated drop where i got blantons and eh taylor this month.
@brewzle, Not sure if anyone has said it already but we call the Middlewest Wheat the "Stagg Killer". Tends to win in blinds against Stagg a ton. BTW your next Ohio hunt needs to be in Columbus:)
Nice video. Glad he honored that Weller. I’m dying to try any form of it. I refuse to pay the secondary and I haven’t even seen a bottle in person. I’m also looking to try more wheated bourbon.
I was at the last store shown on the day you were there. As others have mentioned, Weller Antique is now only dropping every 4-6 weeks. If you’re not there within a couple of hours of it being put out it is gone. Too many guys in Dayton are truck chasers that will spend hours in a parking lot to flip a bottle for a $40 profit. When it last dropped 3 weeks ago at that store they got 6 cases; that was gone within a couple of hours. WSR can hang around for a few days. And Pies & Pints is great; try the Grape & Gorgonzola & pizza next time.
As a Daytonian - Weller comes in waves. Two weeks ago, OWA was everywhere, this week it’s WSR and buffalo trace. OWA isn’t something that will sit on the shelf for long either. If you don’t get there early-ish on drop day, you don’t get one. I’ve bought 4 bottles of OWA in the last year without waiting in lines but I got there within an hour of open. My local spot still had Weller Special Reserve from two weeks ago, so it sits on shelves longer than usual.
Loved that you were in Dayton. Lived in the area most of my life and you hit most of the ones I usually hit when I am in the area. On the coast of North Carolina now and it is really hard to find a lot of the bottles we could acquire in Ohio. Never even seen a bottle of Weller in NC. Antique 107 is one of my top picks also
Night supervisor for Belmont Party Supply here, a customer said our store was in a TH-cam video of yours and here it is. And yepp Tuesday mornings is our shipment receiving day. Not sure what else you do and don't know about Ohio liquor but it's wild when something rare does get allocated to the store.
Weller gets dropped at least twice a month and flows for a few hours at most. It won’t usually last more than a few hours. Occasionally a store will get enough cases for it to last for a few days, but that’s rare. Usually it won’t last the line.
just watching you guys eat all that put me in a food coma, plus the desert... Great video... looking for Weller myself. been really hard in PA.. Have to check out Pies N Pints in WV.
I live in the Dayton area, and I find Weller weekly. You went to some of the most picked over stores in the area. I’ve got 4 stores that as long as you know the day and the time, you can get SR and 107.
Dude the hayner rye is pretty damn good! Back in the day hayner was the biggest mail order distillery in the usa until prohibition i believe. They found some old bottles and blended stuff together to make it as close to the original. I believe they are working on distilling their own though
Just started watching your videos about 2 months ago. It’s dope seeing you come through Dayton. I just picked up a Weller and a Buffalo trace . Weller is at every liquor store right now. I’m hunting for Blanton’s with no luck.
It depends on what time of year you come if it’s late in the green bottle season you will see case of it at the store. The 107 you have to be there at the drop and be one of the first 6 in line. Unless they have something better that day with the 107 drop.
Brewzle you missed the glass case with all the high end stuff at arrow wine and spirits! Loved seeing you visit local stores though wish i was in the area that day!
Yeah, Weller is tricky and you have to know the days! Fine Wine and True Spirits has it on Weds. Arrow and Centerville on Fridays (mornings at Arrow). Those are the times I've always had luck, being a Daytonian. And I hope you enjoy the Detrick, I love the Belle of Dayton products.
Your TH-cam shorts comes up all the time I'm also a big whiskey/bourbon fan I probly abuse it more then I should but hey I'm 25 but I hopefully 1 day have a collection and taste buds like you that being said I'm subscribing!
I had one of the best hunts that came about randomly while meeting up with family. I went to total wine in Myrtle Beach SC and was just looking. I wanted something familiar but special. I came across Four Roses Small Batch Select. 60ish bucks and one of the best pours I've had in a long time. Great flavor straight or on one big cube. The cube opened it up a lot and the flavor was outstanding. Good value at 104 proof too.
In my hometown! I'm originally from Dayton, moved to the west coast like 15 years ago. All I hear was Weller was everywhere in Ohio but every time I'm home I can never find it, besides maybe an occasional bottle of special reserve.
My home town! You need to get to arrow wine on Thursday mornings, that's when they drop the good stuff. Wish I could have bumped into you, love your videos!
I know it is an older video I like to revisit, but I live in Akron OH up by Cleveland and we do get large Weller shipments about every month to 2 months Last week i got 7 Green and 2 Red 107s all msrp and I also acquired an Eagle Rare. It bothers me its not easier so come by as often since we are so close to the source but that's the life of the HUNT.
Came to Ohio a little too soon. My local liquor store has gotten red and green Weller the last 3 weeks. Last weeks drop was Ehbp, Ehsb,Blantons, Eagle Rare, Weller Antique, Weller Special Reserve, and Bowman.
Live in Columbus Ohio and I can usually find 107 on drop days about once every four weeks. Come back for a month and you will find a bottle! Oh…. You need to try the Middle West Spirits cask strength ported pumpernickel rye. I promise you will love it.
Was pretty awesome to see you shopping at the same places I bourbon hunt. I will say, though, if you're not in line when they drop allocated bourbon each week, you won't see them long after. Except for the Weller Special Reserve.
@@RonaSpreader I believe that's illegal in that state. Here in Florida, they don't hide anything, but everything is sold at secondary. A regular bottle of blantons down here is 200. Gold edition is 400. Luckily I travel for work. Had my best luck in WV, KY, and Ohio
When my kids were super small toddlers they used to watch these weird toy youtube videos I never understood. But they were obsessed with them. Anyways, this video is like the dad equivlent of that, and now it makes sense to me.
Hiya, new subscriber here, from the UK. Interesting to see all the small distillery expressions that you come across. Bourbons of course , that never get to these shores. In one of your vids (Louieville maybe) you mentioned that you had not come across an Irish whisky that you liked. I can heartily recomend , Power's John's Lane 12 yr old should you be able to lay hand on some. It's a pot still whisky and likely like something you have not come across before. Superb stuff ! If you can't lay hands on any, see if you can spot any Redbreast 12. Also pot still, not quite as good to my mind, but still lovely stuff. They are easily the best Irish whiskies I have tried, but have not tried as yet the Redbreast 15, 21 or the cask strength , something I should get to , hopefully. Keep up the good work, Cheers!
I got a 107 last weekend in Northern Ohio. Chatted in line with a guy who was in from PA to get it. I will try Pies & Pints next time I'm in Lexington or Cinci.
It's funny you were at Centerville liquor and didn't find Weller I was in there last Friday after the line of bourbon hunters came and went and they still had 6 bottles of Weller hanging out.
All depends on the day for when you'll find Weller. There is a ton but you'll know when it's being delivered as there will be people in line waiting at the stores. If you make it down o Cincy, let me know as would happily share some good pours. Cheers
In Ohio you have to learn drop days/times. Once you do you can hit up a different store every day of the week for their allocated drop if you wish to. I've managed to acquire four OWA in a two day period fairly easily. You just have learn each stores schedules. It's not the best system but for from the worst.
You were just 35 miles away from me in Sidney. Getting Weller and Buffalo has gotten harder since BT fired their distributor and are suing them. I had a nice stash of each, but with getting them harder to find, it is a challenge. My son in law and I did a tour and tasting at Indian Creek Distillery. It was nice , informative and differant, but the bottle of 1820 Bourbon I bought has an odd taste and smell to it. Maybe it will clear up, but I dought it. I enjoy your videos a lot. Good luck in your search.
Once a month at the Kroger in my town they get to boxes of Weller and hardly anyone ever buys it. At $30 a bottle I never complain about getting to pick up a bottle no worries
Dietrich is Dayton local, it's the only one I am relatively sure is distilled, aged, and bottled here. Other than that, there are several Columbus distilleries that are doing everything in house too: Watershed is good and Middle West does some interesting stuff.
Brewzle I love your videos! I'm pretty new to bourbon hunting and have been doing a ton of research. Can you do a video of bourbons that are a once a year drop. I mean like a list of what to look for and when they drop like Four Roses limited edition small batch.
Mixed drink suggestion: Captain Morgan double take: equal parts Captain and parrot Bay pineapple. 2 to 4 parts Dr. Pepper. I prefer 2 parts, 4 parts is how I served it in the bar. If you try it, credit me and I'll tell you how it came about.
Hey love your videos! You should come hang out in Athens, GA! I’ve got a store that usually has 107 ($60) and ALWAYS Special Reserve ($30). 4 or 5 other stores with good prices as well.
Next time you come to Dayton let's have a Patreon meet up at The Century Bar. The Century is one of the best bourbon bars in the US! I can coordinate with them.
Jefferson reserve twin oak custom barrel is great. Issue is its low proof and 85 bux here in ohio. So it sits around. It's a cinnamon roll topped with a butter. Sweet satisfying and a little hit of salt
You went to a few good places, but there are better stores. Also, next time, go to Century bar. They dont have food, but the selection is top-notch. Wish there was a way to know when you're coming back this way. Id take you around

The look on your buddies face at the end of the video 😂 That pretty much says it all about losing a Weller 107 😂
I'm sure he got another bottle probably a few days after he left Ohio just did a Christmas drop with full proof Weller 12 year Weller and Fitzgerald ❗

Arrow Wine & Spirits...my favorite!
All depends on the day for when you'll find Weller. There is a ton but you'll know when it's being delivered as there will be people in line waiting at the stores. If you make it down o Cincy, let me know as would happily share some good pours. Cheers
Middle West Ported Pumpernickel Rye is very good and highly recommended by SLB! As a Dayton native, very cool to see you in my home stores
Hocking Hills Moonshine does do the distillation on site. I have been to their distillery in Logan, Ohio.
We are in southeastern Ohio/WV area and we also get Weller once a month, also Eagle Rare and Blanton's comes in quite often.
Another awesome hunt.
What's up Brewzle?
Once a month at the Kroger in my town they get to boxes of Weller and hardly anyone ever buys it. At $30 a bottle I never complain about getting to pick up a bottle no worries
My home town. Love to see it. Next time stop by my whiskey and cigar bar.
Dietrich is Dayton local, it's the only one I am relatively sure is distilled, aged, and bottled here. Other than that, there are several Columbus distilleries that are doing everything in house too: Watershed is good and Middle West does some interesting stuff.
Awesome video 🤩 love the liquor stores in the 🇺🇸
Happy drinking and cigars 🥃 from Australia
I'm a big fan of that Middle West Wheated Bourbon, was on an Ohio trip and picked one up, enjoy!
Yep, OKI is great
Brewzle I love your videos! I'm pretty new to bourbon hunting and have been doing a ton of research. Can you do a video of bourbons that are a once a year drop. I mean like a list of what to look for and when they drop like Four Roses limited edition small batch.
We'll open it in the parking lot 😂 I like your style sir.
WSR is easy to get here in Oklahoma, it's the other expressions that you can't find. WFP is insane on secondary.
If you come across it. I recommend Starlight Distillery Double Oak. I live 2 hours SW of Dayton.
Noble Oak is one of my personal favorites. Sleeper.
That was great when he said, "They killed 17 trees to make the barrel.".
I dont even like whiskey or bourbon ect but love the passion of the hunt
Pies & Pints is amazing! And I live 45 minutes East of Dayton and can go pick up Weller at my local Kroger!
Jefferson reserve twin oak custom barrel is great. Issue is its low proof and 85 bux here in ohio. So it sits around. It's a cinnamon roll topped with a butter. Sweet satisfying and a little hit of salt
That gold label on the Jack. Grab it
The first store you went into used to be my local store, I bought my first cigar in there when I turned 18
Great videos. Would love to see links in the description of the tasting videos for the bottles you pickup.
Thanks for coming to my hometown! You should’ve gone to Marion’s and Cassanos. That’s the best pizza in town.
Thanks for the tip!
You went to a few good places, but there are better stores. Also, next time, go to Century bar. They dont have food, but the selection is top-notch. Wish there was a way to know when you're coming back this way. Id take you around
I always need a TJ to come to any party I throw.
Good choice on leaving that particular Noble Oak behind.
That OKI is really good.
What’s special in Michigan I live here new to the Bourbon thing I watch your videos a lot keep them coming
