The interesting thing with the Lalonde/Yzerman discussion is what was your assessment before the season? I think many believed, independent of contract amounts, that the Tarasenko signing was a good one, and the Gustafsson signing was a step down from Ghost, but maybe lesser offense, better defense situation - maybe two steps back on offense but a step forward on defense. I don't think anyone predicted how pedestrian Tarasenko would be and poor Gustafsson would be. The same holds true for other signed players. So the question is, are the players bad or is the coaching staff just not using them well? I tend to give coaching staffs a long runway but to me this is more coaching than player acquisition. Also, several players have had bad first years with the team, so is that just normal player transitioning to a new team or is it coaches slowly learning how to play their guys over the year?
I felt before the season the Wings had a fair chance to make the playoffs, similar to last year's results or a bit lower. This current team isn't that. If the sentiment Kane expressed a week or two ago is any indication of the rest of the team, Lalande has or is close to losing the ear of his team and certainly there's disagreements on how to move forward in-house.
Lastly, I don't think Lalonde is "special" in any specific area so I'm not particularly uncomfortable in losing that, its just a feeling though.

Sure could have used Jake Walman on our ice last couple of games where it's been EXTREMELY OBVIOUS that past Edvinsson - Seider, we have no quality dmens who are able to eat mins, most of our dmens behind our top pair would be a 7th dmen on pretty much every legit playoff contender, notice i'm saying only sayung PLAYOFF contender and not Cup contender, our dmens wouldn't even be a healthy scratch guy on a team like that.
I DON'T think the rebuild is a utter failure because of this though, we have some great dmens in our pool and I think someone like Sandin-Pelikka could make an instant impact next season and beyond, but that is next season, this is now. And in the now, it's a failure on both management and coaching staff, management who made that awful Walman trade with zero replacement (yes I know Edvinsson basically took his spot, but he was here last year aswell) and coaching staff for consistently missmanage the players to get the most out of them.
This is how i would shake this lineup moving forward, notice that 2nd right dmen there is actually NO decent option on, which again was the biggest hole in our lineup last season aswell. That is entirely on Yzerman since Lalonde have the players he have, but overall outside of the decision to move Walman ahead of Maatta BEFORE the season started, i think Yzerman done an ok job so far.
The best way to build a team is through the draft and so far all our 1st round picks since Stevie took over have been acceptable to great, Raymond first liner, Edvinsson & Seider both first pair dmens and Kasper looks like he could be a legit 2nd line center, jury is still out on Danielson, Sandin-Pelikka & Cossa but all looking promising to be quality NHL players atleast, which is what you need as a floor as first round picks, and ofcourse hope for elite/star quality to translate. Again, I don't think you have to panic and tear it all down again but I do feel Newsy - Yzerman relationship isnt really syncing so a coaching change would be a first step for sure... Ok, to my prefered lineup and thought behind:
    1st line: Compher/Veleno - Larkin - Raymond
= Larks and Rayzor have always been best together, sure DeBrincat fits well there aswell but this team is not deep enough to have all the eggs in same basket and you have to make a decision how to get depth scoring going, the best use of Kane and Tarasenko for example that both have struggling A LOT this season. Compher or Veleno on the wing brings speed, forcheck, puck retrival and responsible two way game to enable Larkin and Raymond to focus on offense and hopefully open up #23 to SCORE goals aswell and not just look for passes which is what i see when he plays with two shoot first guys in Larks/Cat.
    2nd Line: DeBrincat - Kasper - Kane
= we all know Kaner and Cat have chemistry and the biggest reason #88 resigned or even came here in first place was because of his best buddy #93. Kasper have earned that 2nd line center and is also a great move to have him play there to keep develop his offensive game in the future, in the now he is atleast a great 200 fot player with speed that will check hard and retrive pucks aswell cover up defensively for his offense first wingers.
    3rd Line: Berggren - Compher/Veleno - Tarasenko
= If Berggren was better defensively i would have but him on the first line to power up Raymond aswell, since he is a great playmaker. But he have meshed well with Tarasenko and I think 3rd line is probably where you will get most value out of him and give Vladdy a proper set up man. The center would be fine with either Compher or Veleno, I would almost stretch it to Joe being a better fit here because they have a history of playing together in GR and that would give the first line a right handed shooter instead of Cat, JT who I also think has more offensive upside then Veleno.
    4th line: Rasmussen - Copp - Fischer
= the "shutdown line", doesn't need much more to say here rather then it should have least mins on ice and throw in as a energy checking line to help set up other lines for offensive deployment/chanses. This is where Newsy or whoever leads the team need to make sure you don't over play to ruin the offensive rythm of the game, this is where, just as it is with Chiarot-Petry pair, I think been given to much icetime and need to balance out more properly as a more classic 4th grinder line to just throw in now and then, also save energy for the PK.
The dpairs is a mess frankly with no obvious solution, I doubt this team can afford having Edvinsson and Seider together and at the same time should def not have either or atleast both of Chiarot and Petry on top 4 mins. This is where, again, Jane Walman would have been very useful to have around. One of very few players in San Jose who is a plus (+4) player and logs almost 23 mins a night while being on pace for a 60p season! Noone can argue against that he would have been the better player to hang on to in the offseason over Maatta, or heck, even signing Gustafsson to begin with... But it is what it is, that one is up to Stevie Y to correct somehow now. All i know is that 2nd pair have been an absolute mess ever since Hronek was traded (which for the record was a good to even great move at the time! Just nobody even close to decent have been replaced).
I still think we can still turn this season around but clock is ticking and we basically played 1/4 of the season and something gattu change, like, NOW! #lgrw

@@workshoptelescopeI respectfully disagree. Now idk how much the boys here are exaggerating the forward talent of this year's draft but anything inside the top 10 picks is a solid bet usually and for all we know that could be the plan this year. Outside of Kasper getting a full dissection of his talents as a rookie for a full year; I'd say we've been pretty successful with Seider, Raymond and Edvinsson so far. I legit think last year and this year have been a litmus test experiment for Yzerman. He cleaned house when he was hired and I have a feeling he's gonna do something similar after this season. He's already started moving some of those stop gap players out. I think he's looking for something better than 15th in the draft imo(we are that bad); hence the lack of 'appropriate action' with staff. I'm not gonna be presumptuous of how he handles LaLondes future or the rest of the roster. Rough times suck, I get it. However, I don't think he doesn't not have a plan for the off season. He kept is hush with hiring LaLonde so I can't really judge until I see the off-season results and preseason decisions.

Systematically the organization is not aligned with its own values. How can a team be hard to play against if they play a conservative style? Stevie gets caught up in the details of the job doing day in and day out tasks without looking at the big picture. He fills the roster with the bottom of the barrel players. He hired the coach, he signs the contracts, he makes the trades, but it’s led to mediocrity, the worst place to be in professional sports. How many years into his tenure and he can’t ice a competitive team? How long of a rope are you gonna give a GM just because he’s a franchise legend. There’s no build to this rebuild. If it were anybody else fans would be calling for his head. A manager should be evaluated based on performance and nothing else. No more excuses for believing in the “Yzerplan.” It’s just made up jargon to gloss over reality. Drafting/development have been average, pro scouting is atrocious. Is there a real path forward here where the Red Wings have a legitimate chance at a Stanley cup? Sure it’s possible, but looks more like they are rebuilding to become the last decade’s Minnesota Wild. The team is losing because of Yzerman plain and simple. Observe with your eyes, not nostalgia.
Yzerman’s Tampa succeeded mostly because of Al Murray and their draft success. He’s not capable of building the whole thing from scratch

The main issue is that if this team is going to have so many inefficiencies why not just accept it and suck? Our future would be much brighter if we sucked the last few years instead of being a middle of the pack team. I mean we potentially missed out on Bedard, Carlsson, Fantilli, Will Smith, Michkov, Cooley, Slafkovsky, Wright etc
Especially the bedard year missed out on potentially some massive game changers that actually could make this team legit. Now we are banking on one of Kasper or Danielson to somehow hit Larkin level, all while Larkin is clearly too old for this core and his contract will be bad when this team is supposed to be competitive.
Entire handling of this team has been atrocious

The Wings are going to be the last team from Detroit out of the era of suck where everyone was bottom of barrel to make it back to the playoffs. That is the brutal reality when at some point the Yzerman regime probably had the most confidence of the four front offices.

Who's to blame for the defensive play being "Hey guys just stay 3 feet away from whoever has the puck. Don't pressure. Don't deviate too far from your spot...just stay away a bit"?
Who's to blame for the dump and choke on forechecking?
Who's to blame for having only 1 defenseman who does anything (Mo) and almost no production out of anyone else? Also, Mo has been good, but he's not doing anything like Makar who scores goals. Fuck, does Mo even shoot?
Who's to blame for getting all players to give our goalies some F'in help?
Who's to blame for our players not having ANY urgency to get pucks and keep possession? I mean I really hate how often people are just not making the decision to go get the puck. It's sit back and wait.
4+1 box defense is atrocious this season how the boys are playing it. No one goes and gets the puck. I mean look at what San Jose did to us...SAN JOSE... Whoever had the puck, 1 shark player would immediately go after them and pressure. The other 3 maintained protecting the slot.

Several thoughts. 1. Jay Woodcroft=Detroit Jesus. 2. Dont forget about Jesse Kiiskinen! Idk how they would organize talent in GR accordingly but considering ASP and MBN are only playing 2nd and 3rd line minutes on a middle of the pack teams the same going for Finnie and Kiiskinen i want to see all of them moved to GR for better competition opportunity but idk if thats even plausible. Also Buchnelikov still has another year after this one on his KHL contract. 3. On a serious question with team morale and efforts on an all time low; how serious of a thought of a collective team effort mutiny against a coach is an actual thing at the NHL level as you guys discussed with the fck o meter running low? I dont think Yzerman over favors Lalonde or Tanguay because hes shown he can clean house if needed. I agree with you guys you dont make deals for short term success unless that must have coach is available then you sign him for longer term. I personally wouldn't mind seeing a top line replacement for Larkin drafted next draft. Imo you make the best of this season because you have to. But youth level graduations are needed. The only FA signings i wanna see are for better top Dmen or 1 big ticket forward. Let the youth fill the rest and gain experience tbh especially since this year has not been as successful.

This is looking a lot like the Bob Quinn & Matt Patricia era Lions. Here are the similarities:
Trying to build a team similar to the one they came from
Hiring a coach from the team they came from to be their first highest level head coaching job
The head coach that was hired has said some weird things to the media.
Questionable 2nd round picks (Brady Cleveland) (does the name Jahlani Tavai bring back memories for Lions fans?)
Trading/ letting go well liked players because they either didn’t fit the culture, spoke their mind, or didn’t want to deal with that player’s faults. Jake Walman, Jakub Vrana, Quandre Diggs, and Darius Slay come to mind.
There are some similar good things, just not many. Yzerman drafting Mo Seider, Lucas Raymond, and Simon Edvinsson. While Quinn drafted Taylor Decker and Frank Ragnow, remain as key to the O-line.
Bottom line, Steve Yzerman still has a chance to change course. But, he needs to put his smartest man in the room, cards close to the vest ego aside to be able to make the changes that need to be made.

Plus he drafted Seider/Raymoned, Kasper who is showing good things, Mazur, Lombardi. You a whole 🤡blaming Yzerman.

@@shmurdabobby3034 lmao, his drafting has been pretty solid, his UFA signings and trades have overall been next level bad. Also, promising as ASP and Buchelnikov look, I'm not getting too excited until they're doing it in the NHL. This fanbase(most fanbases in general I think) was over-hype their prospects. It's a fact that most NHL prospects do not hit their absolute ceiling.

Yzerman traded away the heart and soul of the team with Walman and Perron. Maybe even Fabs. Motte, Tarasenko, and Gustafsson have been horrible and/or non existent. If you subbed in the entire Griffins roster it's at least be fun to watch players who CARE. If they lose tonight against the Sharks, Lalonde must go.

The choice of Fester was terrible but this team is soft
    No heart
    No grit
    No guts
    No intensity
When your team "leader" is nicknamed Cupcake that speaks volumes

Should have never hired him. He's always been in over his head. Fire him please!

Pistons are gunna make the playoffs before the wings. Yzerman and lalonde can both go. And actually Chris needs to sell the team cuz he is the biggest problem
