Third year teacher here! I absolutely LOVE the Happy Planner. I have used it every year so far and it has pretty much the same layout as the Erin Condren planner but it is significantly cheaper! You can catch them on sale at Michaels and use your teacher discount! I think I bought mine for around $20 with the discounts.

Hey I am from the uk and just wanted to share that there is a similar company for teacher planners that have been designed to suit UK term time (they also sell student teacher planners for slightly cheaper!) the company is “the positive Teacher company “ and I literally cannot live without these planners!

I’m switching classrooms again this year…. Third times the charm! You know what that means, classroom set up videos and hauls! Thanks for sharing your finds. I’ll be sure to share mine when I finish my summer grad classes ❤️

Can you talk about how you pace phonics throughout the year. Like when/how you teach digraphs, vowel combinations etc

I've never worked at a school where kids came with supplies. I feel like I've always been places where schools provided.
They may come with things, but it's not what I want. like decorated spiral notebooks when I want Composition.

I love the Target dollar spot, Etsy for personalized items, Teacher Pay Teachers for materials and decorations (boho rainbow), Amazon for the must haves!

Girl make your own! I love TPT but it gets expensive needing everything and it’s so easy to make your own. I just made my alphabet border as well as my own decorative labels for my teacher 15 drawer cart. I spent a couple hours and it was done and best part- I could personalize it. TPT has cute boho themes but I also love botanical and I couldn’t find the two merged together, I enjoyed being able to make whatever my heart desired ❤️🥰

Buying resources from TPT can get very expensive, I definitely suggest creating some of your classroom decor yourself! I signed up for one free month of canva and have been creating stuff on there (:

When you start your first year as a teacher does the school give you a list of items you need or requirements you have to meet for your classroom/ supplies at the beginning of the year?

For your ten-drawer cart, how did you make your labels?
    Thanks!

I love this. Thank you! I’ve been trying to come up with an Amazon wishlist for my future classroom but because I don’t know what I will be supplied with, I don’t know what to put on my wishlist. Such as math manipulatives and books; I don’t know what books I want in my classroom. How did you pick out your books?

    • @marissakeepstheheat2

Find read alouds that have great messages that inspire you to inspire the students. (Diversity, fitting in, different kinds of families etc). Find books for those who read on grade level, below grade level, and above grade level for different kinds of readers you will have. Picture books, informational texts, non fiction, fiction, etc. all different types. Keep some bins handy, you will find what your students love and you can fill a bin with a series they love (dog man is popular from what I’ve seen). Of course the classics Dr. Seuss and Amelia Bedelia, etc. Don’t buy a ton of books, people will give you a TON for free. Look up and ask local libraries about book sales, post on Facebook in local groups and ask if anyone wants to help you build your classroom library with books they’re not using. By doing this, you may come across a retiring teacher who gives you stuff for a huge discount or for free. I just got two big bins full of books and tons of book bins for free from a retiring teacher and she’s going to give me more later on in the week. Start early and slowly start to build. I have a year till I have my own classroom and I have three big bins full of books for my library and I spend extra time on the side just creating materials for my classroom versus spending money on TPT. I hope this helped a bit!🥰

You can purchase books on Thrift books for cheap to build your collection. As well, you can purchase cereals and many boxes qualify for a “feeding reading” program where you get a free book per qualifying purchase. ❤️

@@marissakeepstheheat2 thank you! I’ve thought about going to Goodwill and seeing what I can find because I knew I didn’t want to buy new books (unless it’s a new book in a series)
