I think the ticket system is the opposite of the Orlando, Florida system that I use. Here, you pay or show your pass first, then get on the bus. It's super neat to see how other countries do their bus system, and all the similarities and differences they have to mine.
Amazing video!!! Thank you so much!! Here in America we board the buses using the front door, you saved me from a lot of embarrassment haha. Amazing details thank you so much!!
Really doesn't seem that different from how it is in my country except for the fact that you enter in the second and exit from the first door. in my home country its swapped so that was a useful tidbit!
thank you, this is truly a life saver for someone like me who needs to be prepared for anything. I have a question though, what will happen if you don't have change?
Thanks for your comments! If you don't have any change for instance 5000 or 10,000 notes than you should give it to driver! Driver will make change. If you needed 1000 note or coin change you can easily insert in the coin box and the remaining balance will come out automatically.
@2:14 hi, may I know where did you spot the bus number? I tried to watch it multiple times but I didn't notice the signage that it's bus #52. By the way, thanks for posting this video, so helpful!
Very good question! If you search into the Google Map it shows how many stoppage you have to pass and exactly which stoppage you have to land! And in the bus there is always announcements next stoppage is that so that you can get ready once it will arrive.
Hi! :) Will the bus display the corresponding number (ex: bus 54, 54, etc)? Which part of the bus does it show? Also, will the bus still stop at every point in the route even if you don't press the bell? Thank you :)
You can use IC card. And there is an app where you can take the status / statement of entire use through that app. means you will found detailed transaction statement through which you will able to extract the similar amount statement through YEN.
Great video, thank you. What if you suitcase? Can I still go on with it? Or what if it’s a bus with suitcase stored at bottom of bus, how do I tell bus driver I want to get my suitcase when I leave
You can take your luggage / suitcase with you. There is no separate storage option in japanese local / city bus service. For the highway bus service, there is provision for that service.
Hi may i know if its the same in shizuoka? I am planning to stay at mishima area and going around im shizuoka seems to be only by bus. Do Suica/Icoca work for buses there? Or is there a need to buy a special pass for it?
In Shizuoka you'll get some bus pass! Please explore about that! At shizuoka you will find one day / two days pass or you can use pasmo / suica at respective bus. For some buses, you need to buy ticket, please check! You will get these information from any tourist center at any big stations of Shizuoka.
I'm in Fukuoka for the first time, so I grab the ticket on the way in, and put it in the machine on the way out and it will tell me how much cash i need to deposit? Also how about for kids 4 years old
You need to discuss at the counter / ticket purchasing area whether it would allow welcome pass on bus or not! On this year March, When I purchased they informed me that I could use this pass only in Trains / JR / Metro.
All the bus I've seen recently enter through the front and don't have any paper ticket. I was told IC card only. Not sure if something changed recently.
Some bus company has this type of restrictions / rules regulation. It also depend some prefectural bus system. What I have shown here is mostly common and practices all over Japan apart from some bus company!
Welcome! They won't stop the bus and will forward for next bus stoppage! If some passenger available in the bus stoppage then Bus driver would stop otherwise not!
Some questions: children: from what age do they pay? Is there a cheaper fare for children? Also how can you confirm you inserted sufficient amount into the machine?
You can simply purchase IC card from any metro / JR station. You will find other videos in my channel in associated this "How to buy & use IC (Pasmo / Suica) cards in Japan?"
Thanks for the video! At the entry point of the bus you have to collect ticket where there would be mentioned the station number say no.5 and which station you would like to stop. At the near of your destination, you would find total payable amount displayed at the front electronic display board. Then you would get an idea the fare amount!
we'll be arriving at 10pm at keisei ueno station and walking to our airbnb would take 1km (around 20 mins?) by foot so I searched it on google maps and riding the bus is another option (it'll take like 3 stops). if we take the bus, is it ok to bring the luggage? we have 1 small and 2 medium sized luggage. are we not gonna cause a delay with the bus schedule?
Please check the bus schedule properly. If you will get bus, then it would be completely ok to use. As per the Japanese culture, they are very much helpful to provide all sorts of support.
Hello , a simple and well explained video. I have a few doubts if you can answer them please. 1. Is the amount for the ticket written on the physical ticket ? 2. Do you have to give exact change and if you dont have exact chang what happens? Also I am attending the F1 race in Suzuka. I am taking the train from Nagoya to Shiroko and from there i am supposed to take a bus to the F1 track which is 30 min away. . I am not able to get correct information regarding travelling in the bus to the track . Someone told me it is a free shuttle service and few others have said you have to buy a ticket and pay when you exit . Would you know if this be the same procedure . I m a bit confused regarding this. If you have any information please let me know . Thanks.
No, in the physical ticket it's only mentioned the station no. that indicates which station you ride on! It is encourage to use IC card (Pasmo / Suica) to avoid exact change / smooth transfer from one vehicle to another. If you don't have any IC card you can provide thorugh cash in that case machine can exchange your remaining balance or driver can help you at his own. I don't know about that F1 track related info.
Whenever you tap / punch your IC card to the machine, it always shows the balance! At entry time you need to punch to see the balance and record! At the exit time through punch you can see how much it would deduct and remaining balance!
@@MamunChowdhury22 yeah I did try and it wasnt reading my CC so I stick to cash instead and use the coin machine cause I only got 1000 yen and paid 200. It was easier than expected😂
Because through scan at then entry level it shows your starting point and balance! And scanning at the exit, it will understand your end point hence calculating total travel distance and fare accordingly.
There is available a display board in front of the Driver! There is mentioning how much money you have to pay! Normally through IC card it deducted automatically punching entry and exit time. And manually you have to collect ticket during entry time and exit time you have deposit ticket with the amount mentioned in the display board.
When you picked up the ticket it mentioned which station you have started your journey. In front of the display board it showed how much you have to pay from which station to destination time to time. So you will inform in the mean time.

Did you have to make a specific hand gesture in the bus stop to signal the bus driver that you wanted to ride it?
Bus driver is always open their door at the designated bus stoppage to take paassengers whether there is having passengers or not!
thank you, this is truly a life saver for someone like me who needs to be prepared for anything. I have a question though, what will happen if you don't have change?

Great video indeed.
i have pasmo on my phone. will it work in buses? i only tried it on train lines
Yes it will work.
Should I put in the coins one by one carefully or just put all of them in?
You can do both! You can put coin one by one or put it together! works in both-way.
@2:14 hi, may I know where did you spot the bus number? I tried to watch it multiple times but I didn't notice the signage that it's bus #52. By the way, thanks for posting this video, so helpful!

Can I bring a luggage into the bus?.

Yes! I think so. Only some trains / rails that doesn't work this pasmo / suica! You need to purchase ticket separately for that!

5:50 Can you drop the coins all at once? or one at a time?
Yeah you can drop all at once!
So you tap your card when you get on and when you get off?
Yes because it will track where would you star & end! Automatically it will deduct money from the card.
Some buses you tap the card when you get on and off. Other buses you just tap when you get on because they charge a flat fee in some cities.

How do you know how much to pay in coins
When you picked up the ticket it mentioned which station you have started your journey. In front of the display board it showed how much you have to pay from which station to destination time to time. So you will inform in the mean time.
It requires you to be able to compare the marker on the ticket with the display at the front. Use virtual IC card in phone.
