Benefits Britain | Rishi Sunak To Get TOUGH On Sick Note Culture

  • The Prime Minister has called for an end to "sick note culture" and warns about over-medicalising the everyday challenges and worries of life, in a major speech on welfare reform.
The focus must shift on what working people might be able to do, with the Government saying some are unnecessarily being written off as sick and parked on welfare.
TalkTV’s Political Correspondent, Alicia Fitzgerald said on Sunak: “It's a very easy topic to create dividing lines between him and the Labour party."
Dr David Bull said that GPs are "sick and tired of acting as social workers.”

Sometimes the poor are praised for being thrifty. But to recommend thrift to the poor is both grotesque and insulting. It is like advising a man who is starving to eat less. This man is disgusting

The sad thing is “advising a man who is starving to eat less” is actually happening. People can’t even afford food anymore and are living on beans and bread. Take it from someone who knows.

Billionaire telling people who work over 45 hours a week not to take time off for their own mental health is an absolute disgrace to this country, and a prime example of the people in power who are elevated above the common man and don't have their interests at heart.

Especially as due to his parties negligence and incompetence the health/mental health services nation wide are on there knees. Typical selfish rich boy toxic bs. Look at why the country is on its knee’s (you lot), get your house in order and sort out the socioeconomic issues instead of adding to them and you’d be amazed at what can happen. Look at other countries with a robust support system and they mostly thrive. Also we’re economically screwed since Covid when most other countries have recovered, why???? We know who these specialists are, it is the same people doing the work capability assessments. so we know the same problems that system has will be the same problems with issuing sick notes. i.e. they will not be impartial assesments, they will be unfair, looking for any excuse to not give you a sick note.
The assessors who do the WCA, are simply over-riding professional medical persons like GPs. We need a better solution.
If mental health is a big issue, we need to address the root causes, and not gas light people. We need genuine solutions to peoples mental health issues. Personally Jesus is the way, the truth and the life, Amen.

Tory government is indeed pursuing policies that harken back to the harsh and stigmatizing approach of the Victorian Poor Law system.
Rhetoric from Sunak and ministers framing benefit claimants as "taking taxpayers for a ride" and suggesting a "duty" for disabled people to work, echoing the stigmatizing mindset of the Victorian era.
This is proof that Britain has not come out of the Victorian age. Societal attitudes from that time, that blame the poor for their circumstances is ever present.
There are large numbers of children and families experiencing severe material hardship and going without essentials.
The Tory government is pursuing significant cuts and restrictions to welfare benefits, making it harder for people to access support.
There is a clear ideological framing of benefit claimants as "dependent" and a "burden", echoing the Victorian mindset of discouraging reliance on poor relief.
Proposed reforms include measures like making disability assessments more difficult, reducing automatic cash benefits, and giving the government new powers to penalize claimants.
This represents a shift towards a more punitive and restrictive welfare system, similar to the workhouse model of the 19th century Poor Laws.

Rishi Sunak's is totally ignorant to the realities on the ground!
I'm waiting for a triple heart bypass, in the normal working sense I'm a car wreck. This is because of the false savings of people like Rishi Sunak's, it took 6 months to get diagnosed (limited health diagnostics services available), now having been on the waiting list for 6 months no sign of anything happening and by the time I get the operation (insufficient operational services available) I'll probably be so heart damaged the only thing I can do is medically retire due to being unfit for anything else.
How many other people in this country are damaged suffering or unable to get required medical treatment because of false savings!

About time, tough stance is what is needed. Sitting in the house isn't helping anyone. I suffered from alcohol and drug dependance for 15 years! Just sat in the house most days getting wasted. Thought about taking my own life numerous times. The government finally forced me into working for my benefits, it was the push I needed to start my journey back into society. It took at least another 4/5 years to start feeling normal again and now that I'm teetotal, in a relationship and working for a living, I'm far happier. However they need to to do far more for those who have made the effort to engage. I am struggling with debt because I still haven't been given council housing after living with my father for 40 years. My private rent is obscenely high but I had to take it too be close to my work. Housing priority should be given to the indigenous population first.
