Brilliantly helpful video- thank you so much. But one caveat- EEK! 5:10 where you blow through the pipe to make sure it's clear, and then use a non-sterilizing plain water rinse? Word to the wise, you can blow a ton of e.coli (an oral, gastrointestinal bacteria) into the valve. I'll spare you my story but the urinary tract can't handle e.coli the way the digestive tract can under normal conditions keep it in check. It can quickly bloom and cause serious UTI and bladder infections. (Came back from diving with a 103 fever. Days of testing, days of fever later, my doctor says "It was a bladder infection, it was hiding there, didn't show up in the first round of urine tests. But, funny thing- the culture came back as E.Coli!" I sheepishly lie-of-omissioned "Gee, don't know how that could possibly have happened. Oh well..." (For the filthy minded in us all, - no you can't extrapolate from OTHER practices where, say, oral cavities just might by some accident or otherwise, come into proximity with uretal regions. The P-valve acts as a bacterial reservoir- a petri dish, happy to grow and culture bacteria. It doesn't hop into the shower and then accompany you to brunch. It hangs up somewhere, moist and in the dark.) Throw an ear-cleaning bulb in the kit, or rinse out and use the empty sanitizing bottle to be safe? You really do NOT want to be 1000 miles from home, 300 miles from shore, and two days from port, exiled to your cabin with tylenol, chills and 102 fever. Just take my word on that.
Can you not just take the valve out of the suit and soak it? I’ve never used one but I’m having one fitted to my suit at the minute ready for when I do my rebreather course. I’ve a question about putting the rubber on. Does your soldier have to be at attention when fitting it?
I could do with some help please Andy, thinking of getting a pee valve fitted to my drysuit. Done a tone of research but still not sure which valve to get. I think balanced sounds a good choice. What made you get the valves you use and what catheters do you use and from where. Thanks again
I have two suits mate, one has the light monkey and the other is the halcyon. They’re pretty much exactly the same, and work perfectly for me. I just open to pee, close when done. I use Coldplay’s Conveen optima sheaths. Always blow through 😝
There is also a catheter cleaning crystal break down solution sold with condom style catheters
Great, I’ll look for some, I didn’t know that was a thing, cheers
What brew are you drinking Andy?
Always PG Tips mate and for now it’s caffeine free

@@AndytheNorthernDiver exellent thank you Andy. Just ordered some samples. Given the price of the light monkey I'll probably try that one.
@@AndytheNorthernDiver I am just about to order the pee valve, what size quick release do I need to fit in those catheters? Cheers
You don’t need a quick release mate
