- You can have your own scale model of Hogwarts made entirely out of LEGO, with the new Hogwarts Castle & Grounds. However while it may look perfect for any Harry Potter fan, it is not a build that you will probably enjoy...

This set's going to be my first Harry Potter set. Finally a good display set that doesn't break the bank and fits on a reasonably sized shelf.
plus it looks beautiful. I hate harry potter sets but this set is too beautiful to ignore
As an update, Holly is right, the final product is great but the build process sucks working with all these tiny pieces. Plus, parts seem super fragile. Like the Key Room is lightsaber pieces only attached on the bottom, so if you grab it there they are likely to come out, and they are a nightmare to replace once the base is done.
Am going to do this for because I don't have room or money for the huge castle
@@ashlingdurkan2961 it’s a great set, especially if you add the Quidditch Pitch polybag and Micro Hagrid’s Hut from the bigger castle. Then the only part of the castle missing is the rear clock tower.
I won't be getting the big castle as here in ireland it's €400 so this one is fine for me the next lego I get is home alone house next year
Really interesting hearing about the build experience being worse than other sets, which I rarely ever hear other reviewers talk about but is absolutely a huge part of the experience of every LEGO set! Great review and fantastic final set
Really thinking about picking this one up, it looks really cool and I love Hogwarts architecture! Quick side note: the two binocular towers on the side of the big one are Dumbledores Office in the movies, not the Gryffindor / Ravenclaw towers. Gryffindor is the tower diagonally across the courtyard from the grand staircase tower :)
I am looking forward to getting this set. Although I loved the big one, it was too big to display. So something smaller, but still feeling complete is good. I also really love the way it is tiled off with the water at the bottom and the framing around the water, so it will be easier to pick up and move and look like a good display set for a story I absolute love and am a fan of. Combining two of my favourite things Lego and Harry Potter.
Somehow I found this set early in my local store and finished building it today. I agree, it wasn’t really enjoyable for me to work on, but I love the final result and how fits nicely on my shelf!
I was considering building the rebrickable moc version of this for years. Cool to see LEGO do a formal version of it.
Should be easy to add an expansion to the back of it with clock tower, the quidditch pitch, Hagrid’s hut, and owlry tower.
As a Hogwarts castle enthusiast who has replicated it in Minecraft ten times now, I am disappointed that the castle didn’t come with the Clock Tower, the Wooden Bridge, the Owlery, and the rest of the Training Grounds Courtyard. 😞
Yeah that was disappointing to me as well, we were SO close to having a full scale castle! It feels like a small perspective change would have been enough to include at least the clock tower, which would have made the castle itself whole even if it was missing the outer feature. Really weird decision to leave out that one iconic part of the castle.
Would have bought without doubt if that was included. Wonder if they could make an expansion for it? Or is the edge made so that is not possible?
Just want you to know how much I appreciate your reviews! I've seen people complain about "negativity," but the fact that your reviews are balanced and honest is the reason I come here. In fact, when I want an honest review with actual useful information, you and JANG are the only two I trust. Keep up the good work!!!
My expertise is micro scale, as i have built the entirety of the fellowships journey through middle earth in it, so i ordered this day 2 so i could get the gwp's as well. The Repetitiveness is my favorite part due to knowing it will look good in the end. For instance, the mines of moria had a ton of rocks for me to build, as did ithilien and fangorn with all the trees. Really excited to build this when it arrives!
2:50 that’s binocular piece is not Gryffindor Tower nor Ravenclaw Tower. That is Dumbledore‘s office.
Amen
I cannot wait for this set! Will sit so beautiful with all the other Architectural sets
I am so excited to get this set!! Thank you for the review!! 🎉
You have definitely helped me make my decision on getting this piece. I love my large Hogwarts, but it just takes up way too much space and I have been trying to decide on putting it away or tearing it down. Now whichever way I decide on the large scale, I can replace it with this piece. Thanks! :)
i love this set so much. i had a fun time building it for the most part. there was 4 pieces missing but i was able to use spare pieces from other sets, and the second booklet had about 12 pages missing that had been replaced by random pages from the first booklet??? that was annoying but i found the set instructions online luckily.
i love architecture so i’d probably enjoy this really much, it looks beautiful
Do you have a link to the display cabinet you had the held the 71043?
VERY INFORMATIVE AND GREAT REVIEW KEEP IT UP !
I bought this yesterday. Saving it for building in December when I will watch HP movies at the same time ❤
My brother got me a Lego skyline set from the 2nd fast and furious film for christmas and i kinda caught the lego bug i havent done a lego set in over 20 years, i just grabbed this set and will be buying the lighting kit to go with it, i also got the lighting kit for the Skyline
This is the perfect size for my shelf. I have always wanted a Hogwarts Castle but they are so big. Definitely getting this one, I wish it was cheaper though. Gonna redeem some vip points for sure.
the quidditch poly bg would be a perfect addition to the set!
Unless I’m wrong, I now need to expand the display stand for my golden Harry Potter figures.
I really like the *idea* of the larger set, but the fact that it’s missing even more of the castle and grounds than this set, takes so much space (which I guess makes sense why they didn’t include more of it), and the insane amount of stickers meaning it has a limited shelf life as a display piece, I just could never bring myself to pull the trigger. This one seems like a much easier buy.
I’ve got the larger scale castle, but I’m also very excited for this set and the gringotts set
Building it while watching this😅 enjoying it so far 😊
Appreciate the insight into the building experience! I'll have to brace myself as I would like to pick this up one day. Also, High School Musical is a guilty pleasure of mine! 😋
This is a very beautiful set. But good work on pointing out the missing parts. And I can afford it without robbing Gringott's! 😅
i personally love the Hogwarts castle sets they brought out between 2018 - 2020 and i cant believe they stopped making those just to remake and restart the whole castle again with green roofs and modular style, I really hope they go back to that 2018 - 2020 wave of sets with more actual buildings
I was looking forward to your review. As someone who likes Harry Potter books and movies but doesn't follow the LEGO theme (Star Wars takes all my budget lol), I was hoping you would tell me if this set was a worthwhile pickup for people who couldn't justify getting the full size castle.
From that point of view, it told me what I needed to know, and I think I'll try and snag this on sale sometime.
I love Holly’s creative videos! Even though there are already reviews on this wonderful set no review matches up to Holly’s except maybe Cheeseys and a handful of others
We stan Cheesey in this house, amazing videos and person overall
GREAT.
@@HollyOnFilmbased???
I'm definitely going to get this. I think I'll be getting rid of the larger Hogwarts Castle and replace it with this. That one's just too expensive and too big and this one completes the castle a bit more
Saw it on a discount on Amazon for €146 instead of 170 on pre-order already.
Been thinking about getting it for my wife to display at her work since it's smaller.
I think I’m going to get this as an Architecture set.
my favorite part about this set is that we finally get an official LEGO Ravenclaw Tower
It's a really beautiful set, just hurts more and more to see those higher prices
I have the bigger castle, but this looks like a buy for me too, looks fantastic!
THE CLOCK TOWER
THANK YOU
I'm really hoping this set means a UCS durmstrang ship and a new Beatrix carriage
I do have the Big castle and then I think I have all the other sets so I can combine them to make another castle so I'll pass on this. So many other sets I want more, the Dungeons and Dragons set, the Sanderson Sister witches house, the Viking Village set and I'm sure many more I want as well.
Great review holly and who was that in the background telling you about the previous hogwarts castle?
The director: me 2.0 😂
Personally I freaking loved the tiny building aspects! I think it’s all about preference, but it WAS my first Harry Potter set (not only, now) so maybe I have rose tinted glasses
Hello Holly,
What do you think this one or the giant 71043 Hogwarts castle is better based on value, beuty etc ? I would like to buy one of them. Thx for your feedback.
Value and beauty for me goes to the big one, however if your limited on space and want a more complete looking castle, this one is a better choice. Either way I think both look fantastic
@@HollyOnFilmMany thanks for your answer. :) What do you think, after current sets will Lego issue a new series of HP in the upcoming years which can be built into a castle like those from year 2021-23 etc ?
The set is also missing the entire hospital wing and the clocktower leading to the covered bridge.
i really want this, but ive already a fullsize castle, so i dont have a point in having this set
18+ sets was added in 2020 and the Hogwarts Castle came out in 2018 so it had the old 16+
Yeah it's too small. I'll stick with the original micro scale one and expand on it to make more grounds and such and it was definitely a lot of fun to build. I can't wait to light up the stained glass windows.
She’s so negative. I’ve built this set, it’s my favourite build to date. The building experience was very enjoyable; although it was a bit fiddly in pasty, I loved putting the techniques the used to create the illusion of grandeur. It’s majority small pieces so you need to pay attention 🤷🏼♀️
I’d say it’s an average architecture build. You don’t get the smooth feeling of connecting large sections together, but it’s more about the fine details and techniques. Trying to watch a movie whilst making architecture-style sets just isn’t realistic, you need to be a bit focused or it’ll just be a pain dragging yourself in and out of the mindset
She’s got a bad habit of being overly negative
The new lego disney castle pleaseee💗
I have mine pre-ordered, hopefully Fnac delivers it on the 1st of September.
The only complaint I have about it, as I've said time and again, is that the Castle is still not complete with the Clock Tower and courtyard missing. For 170€, it's not forgiveable.
Fortunately for me, I only paid 145€ for it and for that price, I'm fine adding it myself.
I think it’s absolutely forgivable. If you Google the position of the clock tower , you’ll see that Lego would have to expand the model a good 2 inches, more if they included the bridge. They’d have to expand the rockwork into places that have nothing on them, and would drive up the price significantly, easily making the set over $200. To add the clock tower would take away the easy display-ability this set is designed to have, all for a tower that you won’t see in the ideal viewing angle. Is it ideal? No. Is it understandable? Yes. And as you say, it will be possible to add it yourself if that’s something you want to do. But as someone who has this set perfectly nestled on my shelf, I can say that pushing the model out several inches would severely negatively impact it
@@halion4487 well I've just finished building it and sorry but no, it's definitely not forgiveable. Not for 170€. The piece count is artificially inflated by a ton of 1x1 tiles. The model is beautiful but they should have made it square to encompass such an important building. That would also given them room to include a bit of the forbidden forest or the Quidditch pitch.
It's a marvellous set, I'd say better than Gringotts, but not for 170€. 150€ tops. For 170€, the Castle should be complete.
I don't think the "shelf" argument is valid. Because it depends on the shelves. My bookshelves are all not shallow enough for it as it is anyway. But those square ones from IKEA that a lot of people have would be for a square version of this diorama.
This is a pain in the tushy to build. I loved building the first big micro scale castle bc I could figure out what part I was building. This is literally just laying tiles and bricks down with no nod to what you’re building. I love it finished but what a pain to build.
Holly will you sell the larger micro-scale castle to free up room??
I don’t think I ever will, if anything I’d sell the playsets first since the big model is such a beautiful piece
Amazing set
3:50 You are missing the clock tower and yet you show the clock tower?
This is the best Harry Potter set
I'm buying it to sit on top of my illustrated hardback collection
THAT WILL LOOK SICK
Helloooo Holly!!!
I personally won't be buying this, I'm pretty much broke after getting the Eldorado Fortress set, well 2 of them. So I'm gonna save up for the new Star Wars sets. Love the vids, keep up the good work Holly
I was on the fence about whether to buy this set or the larger castle, but with what you've said about the building experience on top of the fact that this isn't a complete castle, I think I'm going to get the larger one. Thanks for the review, Holly!
Just a heads up; the big one isn’t complete either, and is actually missing more parts of Hogwarts than this model. But it is more detailed, since it’s bigger.
@@Linus_B I know that. I meant that if this set was a complete Hogwarts, then it would have had enough of an advantage to sway my opinion. Since I’d be getting only part of a castle either way, I’d rather get the more visually impressive one.
@@jomole1430 Ah, good! I just thought I’d save you some disappointment in case you bought the big, expensive one only to find out it’s not complete either.
Just buy all the smaller sets and combine them into a castle
The 2018 version was incomplete
dang i'm early!!! thanks holly
Great review! Since I have the big one already, and this feels incomplete and overpriced, it's an easy pass for me, which is great cuz I need to start saving money!
I think the exact opposite, I’d say that the big one is incomplete and overpriced. This smaller one almost exactly relocated the larger set, and that’ makes up about 40% of the castle in it. To those criticising the lack of hagrids hut and the quidditch pitch, the former would be little more than a brown stud at this scale, and both are too far from the castle to reasonably expect a model to cover all of the area needed. The lack of the clock tower is unfortunately, but once you see the model you can somewhat understand it. The castle as is covers all the way to the back, and to add the clock tower and it’s courtyard would require extending the model and Rockwell’s back 2ish inches in order to squeeze it in, pushing the price up closer to £200 and making it harder to display given the model being pushed out more on shelves. As is, the model is less than a 1/3 of the price of the large one, and contains 95% of the castle. It doesn’t have the sheer size of the bigger set, but is far more intricate and elegant, whilst not having the awkward “almost a play set” look the bigger set has. All in all, Hogwarts castle and grounds does it exactly what it’s meant to do: be a model that is far more affordable than prior sets, whilst also being gorgeous to look at.
I’m sorry to be the nerd emoji, but I had had to point out that at 2:50 the binoculars actually represent the headmaster’s quarters instead of the gryffindor and ravenclaw towers
I got this set for €46,40😊 (it was €116,40 - €70 from gift cards)
Building anything microscale isn’t a good experience
Nice set but i still prefer older version.
Hello holly .😊.👋
Could of been 250 dollars but they decided to price it at 150$...
If its going to be $200 and mini scale why miss out on all the other features. Rather pay extra $50 and get the whole thing. Thats why its missing its wow factor too.
But it isn’t $200, it’s $170. It’s still a somewhat affordable set for those who can’t shell out $250, or the huge price for the big set. The extra money would add maybe 10% to the castle. In reality you’d mostly be paying for more rockwork to accommodate the clock tower and courtyards. And all for a structure that you can’t see from the front, and would push the build to hang several inches over most shelves. If you own the set you can absolutely see why those sections were cut. The wow factor is there, it just isn’t the same wow factor from the sheer size of the midi scale hogwarts from a few years ago.
Holly, did you regain your interest in Harry Potter sets?
Not trying to collect everything has definately helped, though I think the 2024 Winter Wave will give me a better idea. That being said, I'm extactic for Gringotts
@@HollyOnFilmGringotts looks great, I can say it as a person who didn't wait for this set at all, unlike you. 😅
How rich are you
it’s really interesting that you had such an awful experience building this. every other review i’ve seen said they enjoyed the build
trying to watch a movie or rush for a review won’t help. Microscale is a ‘slow down, don’t have distractions’ kind of thing as each step can be meticulous.
It’s a fiddly build at times, and the great hall is a bit of a pain trying to manoeuvre. But the rest is well paced for two sittings, one building the base and the other the castle itself, and the rest of the castle is solid and easy to build. It requires concentration, so attempting to watch something is always going to make the experience less fun, but wack a podcast or music on and you’ll have a blast. Of course she isn’t going to enjoy the build if it’s taking her out of something else she wants to watch.
@@halion4487 Did just that and it was a good experience used a podcast
because we need a minimum of 100 HP sets in our lives. So sad to be a LOTR fan.
Complains about build complexity because she wants to watch a movie while building a LEGO set... 🤦♂The trick is to actually pay attention to the set you build, and then you'll enjoy it. 😉
High school musical 🎵
If this goes queer eye club, I'd buy it for the parts. Provided double VIP and multiple gwp

Ayyyyyy
I don't like Speed Champions for the abundance of 1-by elements. Hogwarts Castle and Grounds has the same issue, I'm afraid. It's really tedious to assemble.
I stopped my collecting Speed Champions at Bond's Aston Martin and Mercedes F1.
I bought Iron Man armory a couple of days ago, assembled his Audi and felt exhausted as well. 😮
Kinda swore off HP stuff but this one looks tempting.
Why are you standing with the set the whole time? You have no room to place it? Also seemed rush with your review. I’ll have to see it in person to decide if I’ll get it
