After starting your pump and opening the fill cap to vent the system, it's also a good idea to take a hole punch or nail and hammer, and poke a hole in the top of the oil filter. This will help vent the filter to allow the old oil to drain out of the filter and you will have less mess when you unscrew the filter to replace it. Great videos Eddie!! Thanks for sharing!!!

I have been using your videos for a while now to maintenance my boat. I have a 2006 Sea Ray 200 Select and have been taking it in for oil changes. A friend of mine recently told me a Mercruiser trick that may apply to other boats. If you have an original bilge drain plug that has a chain on it, it's possible that the chain is hooked to a hose that connects straight to the oil pan. If you gently tug on your drain plug chain, you may pull out a long, capped hose from he bilge - this was intended to make oil changes very simple on this motor. No need for a dipstick pump. My friend told me about this on his Bayliner and I just discovered it on mine - I wanted to share my discovery. It's possible that this is common knowledge, but not for me. Cheers.

Great vid but my only question would be.. Does the dipstick tube run to the bottom of the pan to remove all the oil? I guess at least a 1/2 a quart is still in there.

nice video. I put a fitting in where the drain plug was and pluged ti off. When I change it, I run the line out the drain in the back of the hull and pull the plug on the end of the line. I got a oil relocater off of a 2005 blazer and bolted it to the back where the pump for the trim is at........Works great, but you have to pull the motor for that. It was the best thing I ever done

Great video Eddie. If you have a Harbor Freight Green Oil Extractor, you can make an adapter to fit your Dipstick Drain for less than a dollar. A 2" long piece of 1/2" piece and a 3" long piece of automotive heater hose fit the end of your oil extractor. A small hose clamp makes it air tight. IM me if you want a picture.

what i heard is that if you stab a hole into the top of the old oil filter it'll suck the oil out of the filter when you're sucking the oil out, so when you remove the filter it won't spill any oil

your oil filter is way too tight ! never more than handtight+a little
