@@Leadblast Story is the core part of an RPG. So saying story is secondary in any game is silly. You say cosmetics don't matter, but you still have dumb customizations in Tekken 7. Would you play a Tekken game with nothing but Mokujin as character palettes?
T4 went for a gritty realism I kinda miss. Now it's full anime with some HQ Mugen in there. It had obstacles, super small levels , un even floors, that made animation funny sometimes, an unintuitive wall system, where you could hit the cieling and teching off the wall could net an advantage gained by the victim lol. U could even move around before the fight started. It had good ideas, that I would like to see re introduced in some way. Even the "wall push" was interesting
The wall tech roll is a pretty interesting mechanic and I wouldn't say no if they ever bring it back. Another thing I liked is the ceiling "mechanic" in some levels like the Mall: when the ceiling is low and the launcher you used sent your opponent flying really high they would hit the ceiling and fall back down instantly, preventing you from beginning your combo with a slow follow-up. There also were levels like the Jungle where the ground isn't flat and difference of height would make some otherwise impossible combos possible. This is a mechanic Dead or Alive still keeps using today.
It's because this was harada's baby. After the negative reception. I'm guessing harada got pissed off and backpedaled to the tekken 3 gameplay for tekken 5 onward. Which why you see him not wanting people to ask him for anything anymore.
I think that's where Tekken started to become more frustrating for me as I got older. I used to never want to combo or even care to do it but my movement and positioning in the older games were fantastic. Its become so combo focused that it feels frustrating to get punished for a small mistake. I loved the poking and movement focus of Tekken 4.
MamoMark that’s true, but at least they learned how to balance their game, while yeah, you can get hit with a full combo doing 40% of your health from one mistake, but so can pretty much everybody else, when everyone is OP, nobody is really OP, you can still play the poking game if you like being on the defensive/safer side though. I gotta admit though, I hate fighting button mashers when I’m actually trying to play strategically
@Lord_of_darkness Lord_of_darkness Thx for replying! I have seen the video! Yeah, the arena led to some crazy stuff. I have also seen some of the old evo (2002-3, I believe) matches on the stage.
Just give us the Tekken 7 style gameplay/ mechanics and the Tekken 4 style for everything else (stages, music, story, costumes, intro/win poses, art, atmosphere, extra game modes) and i think you’ll have yourself the perfect fighting game, simple as that.
I hate when people complain abouy the music in T7 especially since there is a thing called Jukebox and you can put all your favorite ost's on anystage, menu you want
Everyone sucks t4s dick but like just listen to some of the voice acting in the outros. Absolutely dreadful lol people gotta take off the nostalgia goggles for a second
sǝɯɐظ ıuuɐʌoıG i wasn’t trying to imply T7 music is bad i just prefer the overall sound of T4. Stuff like authentic sky, touch and go, kitsch. That kind of sound just fits tekken better imo
ay main man.. i completely agree with the wall splat properties in tekken 4.. 1 hit guaranteed is more than enough and if you combo into the wall it’s fair to tech roll out of it instead of the ridiculous damage we have today. it is also my favourite tekken game thanks to the story, music, stages etc.. if only they worked out some of the kinks it could have been the perfect tekken game. hope to see more T4 content!
Keep in mind though that this is the only Tekken that came out directly on console first with no prior arcade release if i remember correctly, so imagine Tekken 7 vanilla coming out on console on march 2015 with no possibility to patch the game, we would have had multiple floor brakes death combos and other broken stuff that would have made the game as bad as 4. Plus the game was completely new and implemented a shit ton of new mechanics that needed accurate testing and fixing. Arcade releases, especially in the old days served as beta tests for the game so it could be fixed and improved for the console release.
Maybe I'm nuts but I liked Bounding at the wall. Probably because I made it work for me. It's basically the anithesis of this video. Lee could really exploit that design bug in the Arena stage and get an infinite.
Tekken 5 still had the mechanics of Tekken 4's wall system but less OP and then it was totally overhauled starting Tekken 6 with all the wall juggles and damages (minus the infinites like in T4 lol)
Great design, great story, giving a hope system in general. Unfortunate, that is a beta or even alpha of Tekken 4! Another fact, in those days when Namco realised T4, that game was a second game ... That T4 we known it's different from previous Tekken 4 ver.
I hope this mechanism will return in TEKKEN X STREET FIGHTER I wanna say that I think 99% agree to what TMM have said in all of his videos This wall balance should be back in TXSF, but with TWEAKS like damage balance and stuff. TEKKEN 7 is the best tekken IMO, because they nailed almost all of the problems that the previous tekken games had like the roll back juggle starter/launcher where you can catch a rolling back opponent. that shit was so unfair for noobs and even to a Pro-level. They also addressed the problem with BOUND mechanic. It was too much of a airtime and the essence of the face to face combat was greatly decreased. In T7, you can no longer extend your juggle with a bound because of the new mechanic "TAIL SPIN". The controls were also superb in TEKKEN 7 Things I'd like to see in TxSF: - new arena style, like there should be lots of props and stage transitions but doesn't need to be a splat that can be comboed like what they did in GEESE's stage - tekken 4 wall system but with improvements and balance - better graphics - better customizations ( i dont mind paid custumes as long as they're not that expensive ) and give us the BLACK Ki !!! - faster loading lmao - maybe a 220life because in T7, you get launched 1 time, you lose 40% of your life lol juggle fest isn't fun if it's that easy - the rest are fine if i have not forgotten anything
Imagine if Tekken 4 had had the fix patches like it happens today... We would talk about something else and maybe Tekken would be totally different. It's the best of the series
A great example of the unlimited combos are all the TAS videos, like this one: th-cam.com/video/0htrniTVVtc/w-d-xo.html Sure, it might be difficult to do all the combos performed there, but i think it's a great example of the potential of it.
What if in next Tekken you can walltech if you got your back to the wall. But can do wallcombos like in Tekken 7 when you got then side to the wall/or not teching? But not any infinite combos
It’s broken but Namco shouldn’t abandon those mechanics and just fix the problems it had. Although I do understand that fixing uneven terrain, and walls is going to be risky, time consuming, since it’s easier to add flat stages.
