    Obviously no one wants to ever sell their gold, but since discovering this channel about two years ago i managed to save up 20 oz of gold (mostly eagles and buffaloes). And I'm forever grateful that you got me into this vendetta i was laid off last month and knowing i have some significant additional reserves in the form of gold makes it a lot less stressful than it otherwise might be.

    As important as it is to put aside gold for your kids, it's equally important to give the the financial education needed to make wise decisions with it. Let’s face it, life is tough. My goal with gold is to help my son and future grandchildren. I have almost 300 ounces set aside for him. He will also inherit many rental homes, including a beachfront house on a private island in SC. To ensure that he receives this at my death makes me feel like a successful father. Career never made me feel successful, even though it pays well. Being a caring and non selfish father is a huge reward. I hope that he never needs it to liquidate these assets, and that he can pass it on to his kids. I do think about the things that I could do with that money, but it makes me feel selfish to spend it on luxuries.

      I like to stack and prep based on how best to deploy the resources I have towards the problems that seem most
      likely to occur. I have found that: "The more exotic a proposed scenario is, the less likely it is to actually occur."
      Because of this, I am able to make the best use of the limited resources I have and do not go dashing off into the
      bizarre possibilities that have little to no likelihood of occurring. While we simply cannot know the future or what
      it holds for us, this seems a good way to proceed based on the info we have in hand at the moment.

I've seen too many older folks who encounter an emergency that they can't deal with because they have no savings or at least not enough. I have a fair amount of my money invested in other things that are (hopefully) going to continue to grow. My silver is for whatever, it's not the keeper for me, but better than saving paper money. Right now I'm buying about 20 ounces of silver to one ounce of gold, and this varies on special buys, either cheaper silver or a beautiful gold coin. However my gold is a none spending buy. It's hopefully for daughter and then what ever she wants to do, again hopefully pass it on. I don't buy gold for an easy sell, but more for something beautiful.

    I don’t have a plan for my assets, both PMs and other assets. I do have 3 kids and I am an older father, so when I am 65 my youngest twins will be 21. I’m pretty sure I’ll be working well past 65 to cover my family’s needs. I’ve been working since I was 13, initially at my father’s gas station. I’m teaching my kids about saving, but they are still a bit too young to understand. I pray time is on their side!

      IMO, kids are never too young to learn the basics of good money management. My Mom started teaching me about money with I was 5 years old. She did not give my complex lessons, just the basics. But as I grew older, she enhanced and expanded these lessons until they were appropriate for my age. I adored my Mom and was very sad when she
      passed at age 87 in 2015. But I have a lot of her knowledge and experience saved in my memories. I have passed a lot of this on to our own kids and grand kids, so am hoping
      that they will be able to make use of it in their lives.

    I sell gold often. The main reason being, I don't want prying eyes to know what I'm doing or where I'm getting the cash. Taxes suck! They get enough from me as it is. I haven't been stacking as long as you, but when I purchased ounces for under 1300 I used to think it was too expensive, now I wish I'd have bought more when I had those opportunities. I've been slowing down quite a bit the past few years and hardly picked up any this year. In fact, I have sold more than I bought this year, which doesn't make a lot of sense to some, but it makes sense to me, and that's all that matters. There's a method to everyone's madness, and no two ways are the same.

  • @GetIrked
    @GetIrked ปีที่แล้ว +2

    How do you respond when people ask, "What about the 'opportunity cost' of dumping $100K-$400K into gold with no yield instead of investing it in stocks, or, better still, other real assets like real estate?"
    My answer is: opportunity cost is a rhetorical fallacy. In order to know which road is better, you must have 20/20 hindsight, so opportunity cost only works as a backward-looking measure despite the fact that anyone who uses the phrase also accompanies it with the arrogant hubris that they can somehow predict the future.
    What do you think? Do you ever get a pang of worry that maybe - just MAYBE - at least some of the money you put into gold would be better allocated elsewhere?
    Spoiler Alert: My answer is that I buy a little of everything. You name it, I probably own some of it (except maybe Pokemon cards). Gold, silver, comic books, Transformers action figures, vintage video game consoles, baseball cards, real estate, stocks, ETFs, Bitcoin, altcoins, shitcoins, shittier shitcoins... yep, I've got it all. To me, opportunity cost only matters if you completely miss an opportunity.
    This video really hit home with me and I greatly enjoyed it. Thanks for all you do.

    • @2is1gold
      @2is1gold  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      This topic is coming up soon. I think you and I are pretty aligned here. To me it's savings that builds over time. In other words, having $100k or $400k locked away in savings is different than having $250k locked away 15-25 years earlier when I started. The opportunity is that $500 / mo I saved while I was already investing. I don't even get into the fact that my big swing at RIVN missed last year but my gold appreciated 15%. Having the gold/savings makes me far more confident to make the investment bets. My poker analogy is that if you play no limit poker with money you're afraid to lose, you will never win and you will probably lose. It makes you cut your losses on the fear of losing more. Those two analogies RIVN and NL Hold 'Em don't go well together - I should have cut that loss - but you get it. 😄 Cheers!

    I've just started buying gold in the last six months . My first thought was it will be for my children when I'm gone. I used all the money I would have put in the bank and invested in gold. I have collected £16,000 ,10 oz mainly Britannia's because I live in England. I made that choice because of your advice about continental preferences, when selling! My thoughts are buy as much now to take advantage of the price increase and gains in the future ,if you follow my drift. I have now decided to look at the 10 oz as back up in case things go south or take advantage of better "investment" deals in the future. Flexibility is one of the main traits of survival. I have my own house so the children can have that. I will now start thinking about a cut off date for buying gold. Continue to openly discuss and bring to the forefront that which is at the back of many of our minds!

      necessary and advantageous to you.

    Good video. I like the way that this was developed and the possible scenarios under which the gold would be used. I have a similar view on this but it's still good to hear about the plans of others and how they are likely to use their gold. For me, a gold stack is something that I want to leave to my heirs and also enjoy a bit in retirement. We recently had a taste of inflation that
    was not very appetizing, yet it is possible, if not likely, that higher inflation could be in our future. If so, then being able to supplement our retirement income for 5-6 years would be good. I
    have seen 1st hand what happens to the health of many people in their 80s and have NO desire to be part of that. If I make it to age 80, that will have been enough time on this rock. I'll be
    74 years old this coming August, so my time horizon is relatively short... at least, I am hoping that it will be. I'm OK with that but it does change the kind of reasonable planning I can do.

    I always enjoy your videos. I was lucky enough to be able to retire early. I have collected coins all my life, but am early in my precious metals journey. Similar to you, one objective is to leave some wealth to the next generation. I have also started gifting some beautiful and interesting pieces to help build some interest and habits to in the next generation as well. Similar to you, I also want to build a position to cover potential risks and needs in the future. We do spend significant time and own properties outside the US, so hopefully precious metals will help hedge against devaluation of the dollar and cover expenses in other currencies in case the dollar doesn’t buy as much overseas in the future. Also if inflation in the US continues higher than hoped and/or tax rates are increased, the same benefits of maintaining purchasing power will be true for US based expenses. I am just starting the journey. One big consideration influencing the pace of adding precious metals is avoiding higher tax rates to generate the funds to purchase, so the current pace is a bit slow... But I expect when we downsize our house, I plan to use a portion of the proceeds to get the precious metals part of the portfolio to our longer term targets. Your videos have had a significant influxes on my thinking and approaches. Thanks!

    Why would you EVER sell your gold? Gold is a tier-one asset and as such you can take out a secured loan against it. Use the money from the loan to purchase real estate. Then mortgage the new property and use the money to pay off the loan against your gold. Rinse and repeat.

    That is a h.. og a lot of gold. Don't think I'm able to keep pace up although in some years I've added 160 gram and others none. The reason is that I also have a regular retirement funding (what is it called in English?) so whatever I buy in gold is on top of that. Many workplaces where I live you can't get around it. Either you work here and have 12% whatever placed in retirement fundings or you don't work here. Since I really don't believe in the total apocalypse that some here does it's fine with me. But hey more than 2 oz/year I've managed on average. Not too bad considered it is supplementary - not instead of.

    It's good to have a plan, because at least you have some drive to complete it, but if that plan has multiple endings, that is when it starts to get interesting. Which one would matter more is up to the person, but for me, an extra savings account won't hurt and that could be for retirement, but it could also be for emergencies as well. if i was to have kids then i would want to give them some as well.
