The Polar Special aired in July 2007 and was also a learning curve for the specials.

I'm sure it's edited to make the hippos look much closer. They're amongst the most dangerous animals in Africa, I doubt anybody would let them camp that close.
It was actually Top Gear episodes like this that changed my entire existence. I worked hard all my life for the opportunity to drive nice cars but I would often get bored of them and trade them for different ones. But this show made me realize that I could drive cheap cars, mod them to hell, have a lot more fun driving them because I wouldnt be worried about minor damages, have interesting stories to tell and still have an abundance of money left over to travel the world.
Actually Clarkson was right, Honey Badger is ferocious little animal compared to lions and hyenas but Honey Badger will fight lions if lions messing with them. And fight lions ALONE unlike hyenas fight lions with their group and an timmid fight unlike Honey Badger charging into lions. Hell, even Honey Badger eat poisonous snake even if he got bitten he's gonna dead and waking up again. That's how scary Honey Badger is.

I can't believe how old this special is and that's been around since before I left school. Watching it again after all these years, it still feels as fresh as the day it was first broadcast.
Ikr. I've watched these specials over and over countless times. I know pretty much every joke and everything that happens in them but they are always just as funny and cool to watch as the first time around. Honestly, it's the chemistry they all have. It doesn't feel like a car show but more like the camera crew found three really good mates and pointed a camera at them. They will always be an absolute joy to watch because you can tell they all enjoy the time they spend together.

Turns out honey badgers get their name from their main food-honey. They tear open the hive and due to some evolutionary advantage are virtually unaffected by the stings. So, a badger that tears open bees hives and isn't affected by the stings, great...

Not a boom mic, not a fruit, it was some kind of animal, a bird or monkey of some sort. It fell out because Jeremy crashed his car into the tree to stop it when his throttle got stuck open. Not sure if I saw it move, but a fall like that (10+ feet) could kill a small flightless animal.
