Raccoon Trapping | 220 Conibear Bucket Set

A little different from my usual bushcraft or DIY videos but I wanted to share some of my trapping skills and experiences. Today we are managing nuisance raccoons that has caused an elderly lady friend of ours property damage, sleepless nights, and distress. The harvested raccoon was legally trapped using 220 Conibear box set on private property.

Well done, I use a smaller, deeper, plywood box, about 14". Trigger wires are bent inward to avoid paw grabs. Because the box is a close fit, I have a notch cut out for trigger mechanism clearance. Like yours it catches them right behind the ears. Last night I set it on the roof, screwed the chain down, and put the box's closed end against a 1'- 2"x10" sitting in the gutter, with the open end facing towards the roof's peak. 20 min later there was a raccoon hanging mid air. It was instant as yours would have been.

There are approximately 40 coons per square mile in the USA.

Honestly, you would have to see these little buggers work. Very tenacious and durable. Caught them on camera repeatedly accessing this space. It's crazy what they are capable of doing at -20' C.

Great video! I have the same issue going on with raccoon I have a 280 Duke would that be good for the raccoon?

Depending on your local trapping laws, a duke 280 may be permitted and would definitely do the job.

In WI, the square inches of that trap would need to be set in water where it's AT LEAST 1/2 submerged. So make sure that your local laws allow it!

I bought a 220 Duke and it’s to large for a 5 gallon pail, probably need a 160.

@@JEFFALLENOFFTHEGRIDIRON Just bought a 220 Duke and was a bit surprised that it wouldn’t fit the darn bucket unless buckets at Menards are weirdly sized. The trap seems about as tough to set as a 330 but smaller so I don’t think the trap was mislabeled.
