Excellent video and highly educational. Justified my 700mm barrel upgrade! Kind of fits in with the upgrades. I took my Gen 1 Impact, added the power plenum and slug probe. Achieving the same velocities at 35 bar lower reg setting. It was a huge difference! Do temper your expectations on what upgrades can do, but yes, they do work. Well done!
many thanks for your 3 weeks of brain scratching, head banging, number crunching data, hope you get over the headache this must have caused, Great video, keep up the good work
Your excellent videos have gone a long way in helping me get back to air guns, with a PCP this time - 30 years on. It would be a real pity if the few - but undeniably loud - social media trolls got your goat to the point where you stopped in sheer disgust. Fingers crossed!
Thanks Giles, I'm sure the majority totally appreciate what you do. Spent some time fiddling with ratty to appreciate biggest boost was barrel length, 19" for me. Cheers, Martin.
Thank you for doing this research; I appreciate the time that it took you to put into doing this for us. Have you ever done, or do you have any plans for the future in doing just as thorough an analysis on suppressors? I would love to see an unbiased look at the DonnyFL line and the 0db line head to head on one specific airgun, showing sound levels at the muzzle, at 25 yards, and at 50 yards. I'm primarily a back yard shooter and want to shield the sound of my gun's bark from my neighbors as much as possible. Oh, and as for the trolls and the know-it-alls... just ban them from the page. "Be a jerk and get escorted to the door".
Thanks Giles superb and informative vid, walked past you at northern show and told you you had cost me a fortune and once again its true, impact m3 is waiting in rfd for my variation to come through .25 fac, cheers again buddy lol
Fantastic video, been watching since day one, I bought an hw100 based on your reviews, now have an open fac and shoot an fx maverick, I have a passion that I love, don't give up because of the dickheads, dickheads will always be here, we just have to learn to ignore them, and realise how many people love your time and effort from your videos, I for one love them all cheers
Great vid and a real brain fryer. Absolutely on the mark with how it all works. The power block basically is designed for high reg pressure so won’t at 100bar make any real difference as the airflow is being governed by the other ports once you stuff the reg up to 150+ bar then it will still flow freely and will give serious speed increases over all barrel lengths although might actually over power the 500mm as that’s quite easy to do
Given the restraints of practicality and cost have to say nice job Giles. It was interesting to see the difference between between the two valve set ups . Old farts like me are pretty familiar with the compromise afforded between barrel length and power versus accuracy, even more so with springers. But it was good to see you put your money where your mouth is to demonstrate this effect to the world in general. Love your show don't let trolls get you down for the most part they dont mean any harm rightly or wrongly they just want to widen the debate.
Love your videos wish you were interested in doing more. Don’t let the haters get you down. Always enjoy your stuff and often go back and watch old ones just for kicks. Hanks from Seattle wa
As you said as a rule a longer barrel will give more speed/ power but at some point the longer length will work against the projectile because of friction. Great video👍
Great experiment with valuable data. I surmise that if the reg pressure was set higher with the power block experiment, barrel length increase would result in increased speed up to a point. The comment by Joseph Boothe sums things up perfectly
I like tuning cars, power balance is what we call it. Along with the law of diminishing returns. Tuning a airgun is the same concept. Each thing you change effects the cars power curve differently, everything changed together port matching, length of headers or intake, cams, timing, ect... of proper size puts the vehicle/airgun in harmony.
Brilliant video!! 👍👍👍 Thank You! 🙏🏼 I really hope you can see through all the trolls and negativity. That sort of thing will always be there... So forget about that! Please bring us some more videos! You really have a fantastic way of presenting things! 😍 I actually watch your other videos, even though the content might not be for me, just because of your skill and talent. Now now... that is enough of positive strokes... We wouldn't want you to be cocky, right! 😄 BTW - I have done some testing myself (with the M3) and have made the exact same conclusion as you present here. Cheers!
Giles this was fantastic to take in, last weekend I purchased a tin of .177 knock outs tried them in five different rifles 4 being pcp and my trusty hw97k. I only found the hw97k was the Rifle that would give the best result and all are sub 12. Do you by any chance have any idea other than slugs are not meant to be used in sub 12 rifles but preformed well in a springer. I am stumped but as you would say at the end of you video CARRY ON.
Thanks Bigfella, Seriously interesting stuff (perhaps something we will all have to look into if the lead ban passes law). There will always be those who don't get what you're trying to do but please don't let them stop you. Well done!! P.s. I shoot a Daystate LOL
absolutely awesome video again G. thankyou for all your spending and research time, to educate us and in turn save us cash on whats easy and the best ways to achieve more power andy
Great as always . I'm waiting for the Alpha Wolf Caliber .22 FAC full video. Especially the tuning method and using the Advance part with pellets and slugs which is not in factory set .thanks
Whole load more very interesting stuff to consider there. Will share. Thank you, Giles. Also thank you for your usual humour. Even when it veers dangerously close to grumpiness about nitpickers 🤣 I know it's hard not to be irritated. Maybe we could turn that all too regular occurrence on its head, and use it as an opportunity to become incredibly saintly!
Hi Giles Fantastic video buddy, an aweful lot of valuable information that most shooter couldn't do, financially or mentally and I'm one of them, Thank you for the time and effort you put in for use small timers Take care, stay safe, and keep it lit 👍 my friend
There is no correlation between barrel length and accuracy, that myth has been busted a long time ago:) the problem with shorter barrels is that there’s often turbulence behind the pellet/slug because the projectile leaves the barrel sooner, and there’s still air being pushed out. The solution to that is tuning for a shorter burst of air, a shorter time where the valve is open, so there’s no more air being released when the projectile leaves the barrel. You can achieve this with higher reg pressure and less hammerspring tension. The higher pressure will close the valve faster
No. Most spring guns have barrel lengths that are sub optimal (too long) for velocity, same as 22 LR barrels. That's because a spring gun's compression chamber has a small volume, meaning the pressure behind the pellet drops rapidly during the firing cycle and at some point, as the pellet travels down the barrel, friction forces are greater than the force exerted by the compressed air.
Good I learnt sumat which I pretty much knew anyhow but you defined it, thank you, sadly we can't all afford an fx, but what about simaler with springers, I do have pcp but springers are more a challenge, keep iit up
Thx Giles, if you get the chance could you do a review on the new chasis system on the Daystate Redwolf By PRS, could do with more options such as this for other rifles.
Isn't making trolls angry the point of making videos? Where are the online accountability laws to govern the behavior of people online? And Giles you handsome man, I know your working hard on Airgun101 but some of us miss your content here as well.
Interesting video! Here’s one for you. When tuning if the optimum speed from a 700mm barrel is 970fps what would you expect from a 600mm barrel hope that makes sense!
Good job Giles. Thank you. What's the best way to add the slug port to my Impact-X these days? I've got the slug hammer, probe and power plenum already.
A great video Giles. I'm not evil. I like pies & I'm a little bit tubby. Can you do a review of a Girardoni soon please? I want .46 cal action from the 1780's. They had long barrels too.
You need to go out and have some fun with your guns, been self employed is very stressful and you are obviously feeling the strain ! Have a day off for your self and have some fun shooting stupid things for the hell of it. Your love of air guns was what made you go self-employed and I can understand why but if you don't have time to enjoy your love, it will start to get unbearable, do something really daft and enjoy doing it, don't let the work get you down ! More of the daft videos you were doing a few years ago would be great, plus I think you would find the time away from work a benefit Always loved what you do and thank you 👍👍👍
This is my favourite airgun guy, dosen’t do enough videos in my opinion, more the better please 🙏🏼
Excellent video and highly educational. Justified my 700mm barrel upgrade! Kind of fits in with the upgrades. I took my Gen 1 Impact, added the power plenum and slug probe. Giles, You Rock. Nice to finally meet you at RMAC.
Thanks Giles, I'm sure the majority totally appreciate what you do. Spent some time fiddling with ratty to appreciate biggest boost was barrel length, 19" for me.

good to see you back

Thanks Giles for all the great videos.
thank you for taking the time to make this video

he just wants you to enjoy the gear you got. he shows me the potential to evolve my rifle. love this non biased approach
Enjoyed the vid Giles , watch them all , thank you for the entertainment you have given us over the years , love my springers from an old sod !

Giles, I’m trying to find your data sheets. I think you said it would be on Airguns 101 blog but I’m not finding it. Could you help me out?
I really enjoyed your science research! 😍
Somebody had to do it!
And you made it real.
Thanks a lot man!

Great video . Thanks for honest opinion and research
👍 Brilliant! I need to watch it again to pick up on everything you found. Nice work!
As you said as a rule a longer barrel will give more speed/ power but at some point the longer length will work against the projectile because of friction. Great video👍
....you`re GOOD, mate!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Greetz from the Netherlands!!!
good evening Gyles Absolutely brilliant video thanks for taking the time to put this together take it easy have a nice weekend Jack
Hello,i miss you .
Thanks for watching. Wish I had more time. G
Really Interesting Video 👏Keep Them Coming More Regularly , 😎👍
Top Vid as always. This is the reason I went with the standard barrel length instead of the compact on my Wildcat 3 BT
Well done on a great video.
Been very keen to see whether the power block on its own is a worthwhile upgrade. Glad to see it is.
Many thanks!
Cheers
Mate that was a awesome video, and I learned something that I can store and use in the future. Thank you Giles.
Great experiment with valuable data. I surmise that if the reg pressure was set higher with the power block experiment, barrel length increase would result in increased speed up to a point. The comment by Joseph Boothe sums things up perfectly
Fantastic Giles. Great video. Great setup.
Cheers Giles for some crackin info. Must admit something I’d never put any thought into it.
Great stuff as always. Hope to
See you at Bass Pro
Great job , Ben flowing you for 4 years !
Great experiment with interesting sesults 🤗 good job gyles 👍 loved it 😊
Well done. Straightforward and clear as a bell.
I’m well pleased.
Keep up the good work. Cheers. 👍
Great Video which clearly proves your point, keep up the great work, it makes shooting air rifles all the more interesting

This was necessary. I'm considering putting together a system with all the legitimate bells and whistles. This helps buyers to know what those are.
Great job. Deciding on FX impact or LCS Air Arms SK19....decisions decisions... Great videos!!!

P.s. I shoot a Daystate LOL
I like my short 500mm barrel and light slugs (26gn) so it looks like I'll try a slug kit next as I'm maxed out just now.
Great to see you again !
absolutely awesome video again G. thankyou for all your spending and research time, to educate us and in turn save us cash on whats easy and the best ways to achieve more power

Great as always . I'm waiting for the Alpha Wolf Caliber .22 FAC full video. Especially the tuning method and using the Advance part with pellets and slugs which is not in factory set .thanks
Great video, I really appreciate the effort. Thanks for going the extra mile.

Thank you for the very informative and interesting video Giles 👍🏻
Giles earnt yourself a cup of tea and a pastie, go enjoy, good one, David UK.
Good stuff Giles, very interesting.
A man has been following you for ages. Stuff the gobshites bud. A man would like to see you do more vids. Like you use to.
Hi Giles
Fantastic video buddy, an aweful lot of valuable information that most shooter couldn't do, financially or mentally and I'm one of them,
Thank you for the time and effort you put in for use small timers
Take care, stay safe, and keep it lit 👍 my friend
I would've LOVED to have seen this with the 800mm as well. Maybe someday you can make a video just adding those figures to your results.
To clarify, did you only change to the slug probe and NOT the hammer?
Great video, we appreciate your work!!
Very well done I think you did a superb job 👏 👍
awesome video, thank you!!! can you make one on accuracy relation on barrel length please!
There is no correlation between barrel length and accuracy, that myth has been busted a long time ago:) the problem with shorter barrels is that there’s often turbulence behind the pellet/slug because the projectile leaves the barrel sooner, and there’s still air being pushed out. Do your findings also relate to springers? Would a standard length barrel give slightly more speed/power than the carbine model?
Fewer videos , better quality 👌 content ,it is real science 👍
Thanks for your sincere efforts
Excellent analysis! Thanks
Great video, I've learnt something! 👍
Awesome video! I wonder if there could be any negative issues when using the slug port and slug probe for shutting pellets?
Just the kind of video I like thanks.
How about the accuracy. Does barrel length increase accuracy also?
brilliant video Giles.
Great video as usual Giles.
Thanks for your testing = very good.
example Diana chaser short barrel 460 long barrel 550 !!! same pistol !!
Nice informative video Giles, i see your using the tactacam set up what do you think of it.
Wow!!! How did you get fx barrels? They have been on back order in the states for a year!
Good I learnt sumat which I pretty much knew anyhow but you defined it, thank you, sadly we can't all afford an fx, but what about simaler with springers, I do have pcp but springers are more a challenge, keep iit up
Thank you... always amazing content.
Thx Giles, if you get the chance could you do a review on the new chasis system on the Daystate Redwolf By PRS, could do with more options such as this for other rifles.
good vid m8 knowlege is power well done stay safe ian
Thinking of doing a 12 ft/lb version?
Well.....everyone must stay under 12 Ft Lbs - if no ticket, so.......hhhmmm....Thanks for watching. G
Could not find spreadsheet.
Thanks for the information 😉👍
Isn't making trolls angry the point of making videos? Where are the online accountability laws to govern the behavior of people online? And Giles you handsome man, I know your working hard on Airgun101 but some of us miss your content here as well.
Great video and explanation.... I was in need of two paracetamol s 5 mins in my head was battered with the info overload lol
Very informative. Thx.

Good job Giles. Thank you. What's the best way to add the slug port to my Impact-X these days? I've got the slug hammer, probe and power plenum already.
Very nice 👌
Thanks for sharing 👍
Giles releases video on TH-cam shock ! I nearly forgot I was subscribed ....
What's your thoughts on the FX barrel tuner ?
Nice video mate well appreciated
A great video Giles.
I'm not evil. I like pies & I'm a little bit tubby.
Can you do a review of a Girardoni soon please? I want .46 cal action from the 1780's. They had long barrels too.
Great video and educational too
Good work on your testing...and yes, there are a lot evil people out there. Head-up and carry-on.
Nice...thanks for the video
Awesome video alots of info thanks for sharing bsafe buddy 👍
I like your videos from India🙋♂️
Good Evening India, stay well. Giles
