Alexis Arguello has always been my all time favorite boxer glad i am not the only one who thought he was one of the greatest. Was devastated when he lost against Aaron pryor & when I heard of his death. There will never be another fighter like the “explosive thin man” he inspired me to get in boxing will forever remember him rest in piece as you where a true champion!!!!
He is only underrated by jealous Mexican nationalist boxing fanatics! Mexican legends of the Sport definitely respect this GOAT Legend! He is Definitely not underrated World wide by Boxing Legendary Scholars.
You are 100% right about Alexis Arguello being like a smaller version of Joe Louis. Joe Louis much like Arguello wasted very little movement to close the gap. It was almost machine like how both use small movements to get close and wasted nothing
LATINOS UNIDOS LATINOS THE "STRONGEST".... Very intelligent Tactical Strategic boxer puncher. Alexis Arguello was One of the GREATEST LEGENDARY WARRIOR 🩸 of all times 💪🎖️🩸👑 Thank you for this Video 🙏
Where many of today's fighters are getting knocked out by the counter cross over their jab, Arguello had an ingenious defense for this counter: lift the elbow of the jabbing arm to block his opponents counter. He's a master in plain sight.
@@casualcausalityy That's just it. His chin wasn't as solid as people say. I know he was dropped by Cervantes, Johnson, Kameda and Young. Not ONE of these fighters was half the puncher Arguello was. This fight should be changed in the history books. A travesty pulled off by a degenerate, overrated CHEAT.
Aaron Pryor CHEATED his way to beating Arguello both times. No doubt in my mind. The fact that neither fight had post-fight urinalysis tells me all I need to know, but more than a few punches that Arguello landed would have dropped a mule. Pryor never paid for how he did Alexis dirty - twice!
The best fight was Alexis Arguello vs Ray Boom Boom Mancini. It was when that fight was over that we all saw the true measure of Alexis Arguello as a man
A great video , Arguello won 3 titles in different weight classes and never lost any of them. Also people don`t know Arguello was the first fighter in history to try to win a 4th title in different weigh class in boxing history. What should be mention also is that Pryor`s trainer Panama Lewis was caught saying in the video " give me the bottle the one i mixed " in round 6 and 13 and the boxing commission never did urine or blood test on Pryor. After a while Panama Lewis got caught cheating with his fighter Luis Resto vs Collins, where Collins father noticed something wrong with Resto`s gloves and asked the boxing commission to check the gloves, and they found out Panama Lewis had removed the pudding from his fighter boxer, both men were banned from boxing. Excellent video.
14:16 I watched every fight of his that was on TV. He was my favorite fighter. His fight with Andy Ganagian , not sure about the spelling, was one of my favorites.
As a Nicaraguan I'm so proud that our "Flaco" is still appreciated for the contributions to boxing. A gentleman inside and out the ropes, our pride in boxing, an Athlete that inspired so many others.
Great video, ive always thought of him as a Mini Joe Louis as well. Probably should have added his rear uppercut, it was always a large part of his arsenal.
So legendary even the best boxer from Indonesia's ring name was named after him,the Indonesian thin man, from El Flaco Explosivo AKA the explosive thin man.
Sorry but Alexis Arguello was one of the great defensive boxers. His used his gaurd and arms to great effect, constantly blocking, parrying and deflecting shots, along with footwork and head movement to get him out of trouble. Good video though. Check out hanZagod Alexis Arguello defensive movements video.
Having watched so many of his fights now. He would get hit more than you think but he did face a lot of hall of famers. No one is unhittable in boxing. But yes he had very good defense. But it was his amazing offence that stood him apart in my opinion. They work together after all.
Very good boxer. Slow handspeed slow feet and would always struggle vs the movers but used what he had very well. 5 foot 10 72 inch reach he is a true legend. I have to say though I have never seen a legend get hit so much. Many times he looked like an amateur missing wild shots and feet stuck in the mud. Wonder how he would do vs a Lomachenko or Haney
The guy was a 15 round fighter. I think he would really take his time to be economical with his movements and wait for the right time to strike. He would try to put his opponents on the back foot constantly making them have to use up unnecessary energy to keep moving. I think Loma would have a lot more success than Haney would imo.
Alexis clearly doesn't have fast feet but I don't think his hands are slow. They look fast to me. Handspeed does help with great precision which Alexis is known for.
It was damn near impossible to beat Arguello in a brawl or by pressure with the exception of Pryor who had to box a few rounds to get outta trouble. Very similar to Joe Louis they both had trouble with movers. Still a great nonetheless
Chocolatito Is fake. He's also supports a criminal dictator like Daniel Ortega, something that Alexis Arguello was against. I lost all respect for him.
Boxing will never live down the embarrassment, in my mind, of how Pryor did Arguello dirty - in both fights too! While at the end of his long career, Arguello was more than a match for Pryor and could well have beaten the cheating champ. No doubt Arguello's legacy was already set in stone before his 2 defeats against the cheater. Without the mystery liquid in Pryor's corner Arguello might just have KO'd his way to being a 4-time champ.
Arguello gave Pryor permanent brain damage, even tho Pryor survived their two fights because of drugs. Argeullo went on to do miami vice and live a normal life, Pryor's eyes went sideways.
Not everyone's cup of tea, yes, but my god he was effective! He conserved his energy so he could be more damaging when it came to throwing his power punches - hence the lower work rate at times. I disagree in regards to getting jabbed a lot. In the Pryor fights (and some others) yes, but overall I think he was pretty good defending by parrying or slipping jabs imo.
Maybe you don't realize that when MEN fight MEN, you are going to get hit. Watching fighters today is more about taking the safest course for the most money. Not Arguello. He knocked out 13 World Champions when it meant something. Not like today when everyone gets a belt.
NOT a very talented boxer. But he's one of the very few boxers who mastered the fundamentals of boxing and reached the pinnacles of it's mastery...a goal that almost too impossible to achieve, even among the legends and more talented boxer than Arguello.
I'd love to see a Salvador Sanchez video. His stamina was incredible. Great video btw. I'm looking forward to the Aaron Pryor video which you did. You can't do Arguello and not do Pryor! 🤜🫨🤛 😆👹✌️
That's the only reason we know Pryor because he fought Alexis Arquello... check out a video from Panama Lewis with drugs and spending 5 years in Jail for a lot cheating just like Don King
