Join me as I go to a star party specially for the Perseid Meteor Shower in northwest UK. Will we be able to spot many of the meteors, or will clouds spoil our fun?
Brilliant stephen love the way you explain your set up on your camera it's a massive help of you could do more on lenses etc..when you get a chance but Brilliant video as always
Amazing interesting video Stephen cracking shots of previous meteors at the end. I used to have a Nikon SLR which had a “B” setting so you could hold the shutter open for night shots with a fast film. Think I only ever used it a couple of times I had the camera.
@@starman1969 yes me too, I believe it stood for ‘brief’ or ‘bulb’ from the old days of holding the shutter open using the old flash bulbs (remember them).
Great Stephen I'll be sharing this with family, our Paul was out till nearly midnight, spotted 2 meteors,it was very clear here last night, could see loads of stars and the bright one. Its a bit cloudy here now tonight monday, but i saw moon and few stars earlier, thanks for vlog, take care bye for now 😊✨
Great vid Stephen. It really is a lottery going out specifically for meteors as, like you and many others I also suffer the dreaded camera syndrome. Where you point one way and the meteors fire off in every other direction bar the one your looking towards. Last night (Monday) the perfect example, talk about spoiled for choice. I had a cloud splitting my view, one side due north the other north east, I had the Aurora one side, meteors the other, it was nuts and do you think any meteors would cross the line? Off course not hahahaha. Thankfully the clouds thinned and went and I did eventually grab a few frames of meteors with the aurora but even then, after an hour the cloud rolled in and game over. Keep up the ace work and thanks for the vid. 🙂
Afternoon Stephen, just watched for the first time, some fantastic sky shots. remember as a kid seeing what a true clear night sky is while camping at Ullswater in the lakes, pitch black, sky with millions of stars visible. Was hooked from then. Great show mate, thanks.
10:09 RIGHT! HEADING out to the outskirts of Luton Bedfordshire; Stopsley Common, with my 2 sets of binocs, pocket & large zoom. & a star finder app. HAVE peeked out my bedroom window facing North & I've seen a star😮 JUST checking the cloud cover. I'LL be at my destination in less < than 1 hour. I'LL let you know if I see any; my record is 4 in one night from Great Offley Herts looking up, towards Hitchen. SO less LP ☄️🌌 OH I've got to get dressed 1st; just got out of bed🤭 DEFINITELY not Astro twilight here!
NO g☁️☁️D! ARRIVED & the cloud cover has got worse in < 1 hour. MY astronomy app 'NIGHTSHIFT' which I just downloaded says 93% cloud cover & not tonight!🙁 TRY again in 24 hours; cloud cover ☁️ permitting. 🦉🌌☄️
Stephen I also saw the Perseid Meteor shower at 1:30 am at night time on Tuesday 13th August 2024 from the other side of Bolton View Point where it was very clear and a shooting star just went over us from east to west. Good video Stephen thanks.
Hi Ash. I have a little bit of experience with them & will try to do a video looking at the various types available to the public. Remind me sometime later if I don't.
Why couldn't you use the built in 'intervalometer' in your D850 to take pictures versus a cable release? That's how I did it with my Z6III (On Monday night)...taking a picture every second. I made a short video, I didn't film enough while I was there, lol, too busy staring at the sky.
Good question. One of the guys asked me that too, but I've never been able to work out the built in intervalometer on the Nikons. I gave up years ago when they kept stopping early & got myself a plug in timer which was much easier to use. Problem with the timers is that they tend to malfunction after a while, and I don't currently have one.
Interesting video stephen, i love looking at the night sky on a clear night, beautiful

Loved the old B setting. Got some amazing long exposures at night using that.

Thanks Hazel. Happy stargazing.
We enjoyed your video very informative also about the camera settings.
Glad it was helpful!

Interesting video, thank you for sharing 😊
Thanks Christine.
i was up at 3am, in the garden till 4.30am, saw loads last night, took some astro photos with my telescope, whilst i enjoy the show
We would have seen many more if it wasn't for the cloud coming in early.
I did not see one meteor, but early Tuesday morning, I got to see Jupiter and Mars close together, and I also saw Saturn.
I always say that even if you do t see what you are looking for when stargazing, you see many other amazing sights instead.
First haha! Good Stuff Stephen. Praying for clear skies. I'll be in the hammock later watching my little patch. Have a great time. 🌒✨💛🌼
Sounds idyllic. Good luck 🤞

The Lake District is a nice place to stargaze. I think I did a video about seeing the aurora there last year.
This type of stuff go above my head but you definitely make it very interesting to watch keep up the great videos on both channel
Thanks Jason.
There were lots visible last night. Hopefully tonight will be similar. Hope you have clear skies! 😀
Thanks Steve.
Pissing down at the moment
That car drive was hypnotic to watch😀
It is a bit of a long drag.
@@starman1969 I enjoyed watching the journey trying to pick places out. 😀
@@frankinblackpool Some quaint little villages along the way.
Been into astronomy all my life, just subscribed. If this channels as good as your other, I'll be on a winner, cheers mate.
Thanks Steven. It has rather taken a backseat to my other, but I will keep putting videos out here.
Great video
I like how one went over your head at 16 mins into your cast as you said I haven't seen any yet. 🤗
Yeah, I think that was one. Well spotted.
@@starman1969enjoy your videos, keep em coming. 😊
I seen 7 of them yesterday luckily the sky was clear for ages
Well done.

Hi Ste, great video mate, I was wandering could you do a video about online telescopes please and which you think is the best one to join??
Hi Ash. I have a little bit of experience with them & will try to do a video looking at the various types available to the public. Remind me sometime later if I don't.

@@starman1969 makes sense, so far mine is working as it should. Hope you got some meteors! 📸😎
I’d be a bit nervous entering a car park at midnight, hopefully your mates ‘Smith and Wesson’ were there for support 🫤
