We took a bus for two hour for our Mekong Delta tour from Ho Chi Minh and The tour consist of one night hotel stay and visit to few production places of local delicacies. Along the way, we made few stops. Our boat took us to honey island to sip some authentic local honey tea and check out the stuff they had for sale.
Later we went to another island to visit a family business that makes coconut toffee. Our guide explained the process and we were invited to taste some. We made our next stop at Tortoise Island for lunch and the tour included a very simple lunch with the option of ordering additional stuff. My sister and I ordered a delicious Fried fish to go along with our cold chilled drink. The lunch was good from what i remember, I just enjoyed every time we made a stop to sit in the shade because it was too hot but the best part was that they would either feed us or there would be something interesting to see when we made stops.
From there we were paddled to a village where we drank some tea and had fresh fruit. We also heard some local musicians sing and play live.
The next day we saw the Floating Market. The floating market is made up of boats that come from outlying areas and sells mainly fresh produce and fruits. Most of these boats have entire family's living on them. We enjoyed buying the fresh fruit, Vietnamese coffee and local Vietnamese Cuisines sold directly from the boats. The food is sold mainly from smaller boats which can get between the larger produce boats. There weren’t a lot of small boat and our tour guide explained that this was day to day part of vietnamese people’s live and the number of small boat selling things has died down so much in comparison to few years back. Anyhow, it definitely was a nice for me but i think other people will prefer The Floating Market in Thailand which are tourist orientated, this market is a normal part of Vietnamese day to day life and gives one a perspective of this areas culture. An early start is recommended as this market starts at day break and the best fruits go fast.
