It's not about the money man, it's the joy you feel in doing what you love. I think we can all learn from Ben Howard the guy loves his art and is brilliant at it. Hats off to you man, your a pure example of human value.
I have played this song standing on a dock, on a lake in Alaska. Surronded by mountains that remind you how small humans are. Affirmation of life has never felt that strong before or since. I did it, "just to bless the morning." As it should be.
+döm Yeah, I wanna play Bens songs, with that funky tuning, Pink Floyd, which is regular tuning, and Led Zeppelin that has a lot of weird funky tunings aswell, haha I wonder if I could like get a separate guitar just for Ben Howard's tuning.
I love how he keeps his cool and focus even with those young girls literally like 2 feet in front of him gushing ahahaa But seriously I wish I was that close. :)
Wood has a certain timbre to it that gives it a specific tone. The tape changed the timbre and so the sound slightly. Drummers use little bits of gel instead on their drumskins for this effect.
No There’s a lot more depth to his newer stuff People can’t stay the same forever and it’s great that he has evolved and done what he likes over time not just what the crowd want to hear
@@James-616 meh. Old live shows certainly better quality and energy, went a bit south after bond brothers left but I still get the new stuff it’s just not great live.
John Tanman when you buy an electric acoustic the is wires inside that sometimes make a rattling noise when you play so he just used black duct tape or masking tape to stick the wires the side of the inside of the guitar
Brandon Capello Yea the tape wont make a huge effect sound wise. But the whole point of having a solid top guitar is for maximum vibration of the wood which creates a good acoustic sound. Thats y plywood topped guitars dont sound as good as they are unable to vibrate as much as solid top guitars.
You don't talk over Ben Howard when he's singing.

Dramatic much?
How on earth does he make that acoustic guitar sound so damn good??
Alt tunings :)
It's the piece of tape
Check out Gareth from Goliath guitars. He will teach you as he taught me.
How dare that (perfectly normal sized) young girl express her gratitude for his music by singing along quietly at a live performance! O_o
i dont think ben howard has ever picked up a guitar pick.. so awesome.
Why hold a pick, when you can become the pick
I envy him yet love him at the same time. Just a phenominal human being
ahhh soo lucky to be stood that close.. he is perfection xxxxx
I'd give my everything to sing like him because I know that it would all pay off in the future.
The things I would do to see him live, please come to Brisbane Ben! You are beyond incredible.
The tuning is CGCGGC capo on 5
+Phunk Smasher And that's why he's a knob. Like his music, but damn, tuning that's a pain :D
Tuning is easy, it's just annoying when you want to play songs in lots of different tunings.
döm Thats exactly my problem :)

@@D0g63rtmultiple guitars. Just bought my second specifically for Ben’s songs
i can really appreiciate this music and thats why ben howard is my favorite ever artist
I love how he keeps his cool and focus even with those young girls literally like 2 feet in front of him gushing ahahaa
But seriously I wish I was that close. :)
This man is incredible. So good. Pure 🔥
And we grow, grow, steady as the flowers, yeah we grow, grow, older still, how we grow, grow, happy as a new dawn, we grow, grow older still!
that's right - I took the film and can vouchfor the fact that no-one was bothered and if anything it added to the intimacy.
seems like such a humble, down to earth guy. really cool
In awe right now
Just beautiful

fuckin love Ben Howard. I wonder if I put up some posters and cds if he'd play in my lounge room haha
just a man and his guitar, no editing, dubbing or anything, and it still sounds like the recorded song
theres so much passion in the last verse
Hush said the one who did the footage, ahahaha. Nice! now we can listen to that good old music!
I started clapping at the end of the song, but then realised I wasn't in the store ..
he never have to sing playback ♥
that's great i love his voice so much
phenomenal!
No way this shop is one i would always go too when i was in newton abbot funnily enough saw newton faulkner there once its a great little shop 👍
Such an amazing version
Sweet sweet sounds
Awesome musician! Awesome Man!
Ahhhhh! He's so amazing!
Ben Howard is the man!
i love his nice music
Truly Awesome...
He has added pick ups for the attack i think (the black tape). Sounds so good
The old Ben is the best
he is still the best
No

Disagree after seeing him live a couple of months ago lol
@@James-616 yeah same but different take on it I guess.
I'm jealous I haven't been there. Sorry, but I was in another country that day
I flipping love this guy!
fucking love this dude
Fascinating. I've never seen this been done before. Is it just a strap then or does it have other parts to it inside?
wrong - no mic, no pick up. I know - I filmed it! what you see is what you get - man and guitar. Nothing hidden.
oddditties I hope someone told those girls to stfu
That is how I feel whenever I Listen to his music.
There is a pick up in his guitar, you can see the output jack on the strap nut on the bottom, he just isn't plugged in for this performance
this is a really great version
Hammer ons, they come out real smooth and loud when you're in a tuning like his C.
4:20 This part puts me off the edge ❤
I wanna know what that black strap thing is coming from the sound hole on the guitar?
John Tanman when you buy an electric acoustic the is wires inside that sometimes make a rattling noise when you play so he just used black duct tape or masking tape to stick the wires the side of the inside of the guitar
sensational.
You can also play it with the capo on the 3th fred
how lucky these people are !!
His voice is very similar to early Dave Matthews but with an accent. :-)
and that little shop was never the same again after that
how exactly does it alter it?
why he got that tape on his guitar?
Apologies for the ads - nothing to do with me. Someone's making money out of my film it seems.....
Anyone know why he tapes the body with one strip?
i asked the same question, for the mic 'they' said. Some said it makes a brighter tone or something..
Better acoustic sound making less vibratiion
psy GangmanStyle Brandon Capello it wouldn't have any noticable effect on the sound of the guitar, he uses it to tape a mic inside the guitar
Jeremy ah i see
Yess
What a wonderfull man. (love the dora the explorer poster in the background)
@ihateketchup No, apparently it's his sisters' old friend, who became friends with Ben through her.
Then tune it to the song?
wicked hes sick at guitar
respect..
did his dad film this?
3th?
True!
I love the top two comments. I lol'd when i read the second one after reading the first.
It changes the tone of the guitar ever so slightly

Ben Howard, I think I might love you a little bit...
Come on vanamos
he and passanger sound so much alike to me
That girl is in love. And it's beautiful looking at her.
I know its fingerpicking lol..i ment near d end of the song..
the tuning is CGCGCC :)
should be a martin d28 .. but sometimes he plays freshman guitars ...
He has a mic or pickup taped in the sound hole, nothing to do with tone.
did you not notice 3th either?:L
sickage skills .....
correction. CGCGGC
like I would have!
FUCKING SSHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!
cgcggc, with capo on the 5th..
SHHHHHH
They play completely different genres of music...
Thats because there isn't a way.
Dam sun this shit real huh? Yee mayn oh rainbow n sayin?
I laughed at your comment..but those girls look to be to young.
who you chatin about im pretty sure ed sheeran likes ben howard they have similar style if you forget the fake accent lol
What an insult
Ed Sheeran is nowhere near on the same level as Ben Howard lol
helps change the tone of the guitar, ever so slightly.
Its finger picking dude, he only finger picks. That's why he's so unique.
Great comment, strange username. (well, I'm one to talk, lol.)
If I were a girl I would react the same way.
It's not strumming, it's fingerpicking.
shhh!
fred? lol
it's short for threeth dummy ;)
