I like them the most without the muffling rings!!! The plastic device attached to the head provides just enough muffling for my taste. It is even more noticeable with the emperor heads. They open up while being controlled.
Hi@@PaulMarangoni. No, I would say it is a middle ground between a regular Ambassador/G1 and a Powerstroke/EQ4 head. It behaves closer to the DW stock bass drum batter heads, which have a narrower internal ring attached to the head. For smaller bass drums (16-20"), it works just fine to muffle the drum without deadening the sound too much.

When using it without the foam ring, would you say that it is more dampened than a regular Powerstroke 3?
