Timeless. I listen to this at least once a day and I never get tired of it. This shit keeps me grounded while also letting me dream and imagine all of the possibilities life has available.
When Dilla died I was only 17. I didn't really understand his influence back then. I'm 34 now and it's sad to think he died at only 32y/o. I also lost a friend to Lupus and she was only 25 and before she died, she half joked about wanting Dilla played at her funeral. Her favorite song was "So Far to Go" so we started listening to it in the car on the way there and just bawled our eyes out, but because the song is sexual, we were like cry-laughing, you know what I mean? Anyway, she's the reason that I'm brought here and why I continue to listen to this song every now and then. I feel all kinds of shit listening to this -- it's sexy, it makes me sad, it makes me laugh. Reminds me of her.
This song is perfection. Common and D'Angelo were worthy of this beat. It couldn't just go to any run of the mill rapper. This had to go to someone with the right paint brush. 🎨
Went to Dilla's Donuts a few years back in the D. His Uncle Herm ran it and he was one of the coolest dudes I have ever met. Had a lot of good stories about his nephew. Long live Dilla. Your beats are eternal!
BaltazarSantiaqo Lol! You're really crying over a comment right now! The fact is everyone use this before sherlock. Yet you're acting like i was the only one who stole this comment. And fyi your grammar makes me cringe. Hold this L.
grew up with this type hip hop since 5 years old. j dilla is right there with Nujabes and Pete Rock. i wish i could shake dillas hand. he changed my life, tears running down. love you hip hop. always keep it real.
This is one of those songs that have become unlistenable to me because of how absolutely heart-shatteringly beautiful and sentimental it sounds. I feel like bursting into tears everytime I hear it and I typically just end up thinking about my mom in the sense that she's always motivated me which reminisces with the title of the song. I get positive childhood images all over in my head because the beat is so soft and innocent as well On one hand I wish I didn't have to feel like this since it lowkey hurts, but there's also obviously a beauty in it. J. Dilla is one of the few people I'll genuinely call talented without any second thoughts Edit: I did completely burst into tears in perhaps my most real cry of all time briefly after writing this
