Just goes to show you how there's nothing particularly special about preaching, it's the mindstate of the audience that makes them feel that it's something special. Put a pastor in a comedy club without telling the audience, and they'll think it's comedy. Put him in a church and they'll think it's god talking through a guy. it really is a sociology lesson. if you expect something to be humorous, your brain will look for the cues. it shows why mockery is such an effective tool to win an argument, and why so many people use it - you can mock literally anything, good mockery is parody and that takes skill, but sheer mockery just asks the audience to expect to laugh. and then you are left to contend with the part where finding something funny can make it hard to take it seriously... entirely other but also somehow the same can of worms.

According to one who was there, there was no comedian mix-up and many in the audience understood Piper was serious and were not laughing. Dr. Tim Clinton spoke before Piper with a serious message. Most of the attendees must have known who Piper was: he was the keynote speaker that year. Their laughter remains inexplicable to this day, except that some in the crowd got it into their heads that he was using deadpan humor. What's ironic is that Piper begins by crediting the audience with insightful discernment that they immediately demonstrate they do not have.

Missing In Action wow, this was 5 years ago, and how things have completely changed..
John Piper is a hireling, if not a wolf. Have a look at what the Lord has taught me since those days.
PLEASE if anyone senses the deadness of the institutional church system but can't put your finger on it. I'm literally pleading with you (whoever you are) to understand something extremely important here. The mainstream Christian system is not of God. The Protestant churches are what the bible calls "The Harlot daughters of Rome". (Rev 17:5) - "Mystery, Babylon The Great, The Mother Of Harlots, And Abominations Of The Earth."
And Jesus Christ is calling His people out of her.
      Rev 18:4
“And I heard another voice from heauen, saying, Come out of her, my people, that yee be not partakers of her sinnes, and that yee receiue not of her plagues:”
The very first thing you need to understand is that GOD CAN BE TRUSTED to preserve His word for every generation forever. As He promises us in psalms 12:6-7
You don’t need men to teach you what God means.
      1 John 2:27
“But the anointing which ye haue receiued of him, abideth in you: and yee need not that any man teach you: But, as the same anointing teacheth you of all things, and is trueth, and is no lye: and euen as it hath taught you, ye shall abide in him.”
It’s vital to know, especially right now, that God has kept His word in tact! There is still an every word testimony. The following clip is short yet covers a lot. And is what the Lord used to strengthen my faith in the truth. It’s not just more lifeless information. It is powerful and life changing.
      th-cam.com/video/tAMOquyQu-8/w-d-xo.html
“But he answered, and said, It is written, Man shall not liue by bread alone, but by euery word that proceedeth out of the mouth of God.”
      Matt 4:4
Psalm 12:6-7 "The wordes of the Lord are pure wordes: as siluer tried in a fornace of earth purified seuen times. Thou shalt keepe them, (O Lord,) thou shalt preserue them, from this generation for euer.
The next video is a lesson on the pure word of God in the English language, which is found in the av1611 kjv. This is much different than the King James bible you are able to easily find in the so called "Christian bookstores". Please pray and genuinely take this before the Lord. He will show you. (Prepare to be attacked once you start down this path)
      th-cam.com/video/C9lIWdQ0rc0/w-d-xo.html
The first link I left above is from Reg's youtube channel called "Rescuing the Church". There is a lot of good information there on things you should know. Very important and powerful and it dispels many lies. So you can find him there.
And Johns channel is also the one associated with the lesson on the 1611. There are a few testimonies, a few sermons, as well as a handful of lessons to be found there.
John is gracious yet right to the point. And so is Reg. And most importantly they have the Holy Ghost in them.
I had prayed for help a long time because I was growing increasingly confused, frustrated, misguided and the list goes on.. But like most of us, I kept returning Sunday after next hoping something would change. If I sang more, prayed harder, tithed more (not biblical to give cash btw, but that’s another topic), got more involved, etc.
It got to a point where a friend at the time asked me to just "try and sing". He meant well, but it was always disingenuous so I never did. Long story short - my whole Christian life was that way until very recently. Powerless. Its only been about the last 2 years. That's when my life turned upside down. And the Lord truly showed up in a powerful way and began leading me in the trueth.
This link is a series of interviews that Reg began to do with John after they finally met (a providential story) Start on the first interview of course. But it's a treasure of information for the Saints.
      th-cam.com/channels/IfGUbjTsGu1dfoNqYUZzmg.htmlvideos
It's actually named after one of three films John helped co-produce with Christ Pinto. (side note: Chris Pinto does not hold to the same conviction about the word of God as John and a few of us others. That tid bit was used to try and attack John before, as an attempt to discredit him)
      The films are called:
      A lamp in the Dark
      Tares among the wheat
      A bridge to Babylon
All are free to watch on TH-cam, and they cover the history of the bible. They follow the reformation, persecution of early believers, the counter reformation, the attempts at destroying the word of God, the Jesuits and so on. Things the Saints will be edified to know. The things that matter.
I really hope this reaches someone. If this is you... honestly, please go ahead and look. God is rich in mercy and His patience is unmatched. He's been drawing me for a really long time. But I got trapped in the institutional church system and was stuck there being taught corruption for years, by pastors who don't believe that the book they teach from is infallible. They say that it is, but they are dishonest in their claim. And their churches "statements of faith" will attest to this. They almost all say something akin to "we believe the original manuscripts were infallible.”
Okay well wait a minute... unless they have read the originals in their entirety, then how do these men know when they’re teaching us truth and how do they know when they’re teaching us error? They don’t!
If they did, why not simply fix the bible they’re using and make it infallible?
      ..something to consider.
here is one very final clip on the "servants of Lucifer"
      th-cam.com/video/DuVTlYYos0c/w-d-xo.html
"(if it were possible,) they shall deceiue the very elect.”

This is strange. Maybe we feel so uncomfortable when someone is shockingly honest about their remaining sinfulness that as a defense mechanism we deflect the seriousness of it by making little of it. We and I should add "I" often forget "the exceedingly sinfulness of sin"... as an old godly puritan once said.
John Piper as far as I have known him from a while back would be the first to admit he has many flaws but I have found him whilst acknowledging he's far from perfect found him a sinner who passionately loves the Lord Jesus and peruses holiness greased with lashing of grace.

    • @UseentitJohnny
      @UseentitJohnny 8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

+Angelus Grave But what is the cross for the Christian? Obviously it is not the wooden instrument the Romans used to execute the sentence of death upon persons guilty of capital crimes. The cross is the suffering the Christian endures as a consequence of his following Christ in perfect obedience. Christ chose the cross by choosing the path that led to it; and it is so with His followers. A.W Tozer

    • @GODLIMIT
      @GODLIMIT 8 ปีที่แล้ว +2

Without evil, which the cross represents in physical form, true grace cannot prevail. The darker the night, the brighter still a candle shines. When Christians see the cross, we remember the blood of Jesus that was shed for all the terrible sins we have committed. It is not coincidental that the cross of crucifixion is regarded as the most torturous device ever conceived in the history of mankind. Not only does it magnify Jesus' grace and mercy, it should give us pause about the utter depravity of our sins.

“In 2006, there was an uproar within the Christian community after John Piper extended an invitation to a young, filthy-mouthed, unabashed preacher from Washington state, Mark Driscoll, to be one of the speakers at his Desiring God National Conference. And it didn't stop there. Though Piper was questioned and criticized (and by some, too harshly and unbiblically), he stood by his young protégé and extended two more invitations to speak at their national conference (2008 and 2009), though Driscoll proved to continue to get carried away by strange and unbiblical behavior like having pornographic divinations about other people's lives, and speaking harshly, including name-calling to rebuke those within his church.
“Unfortunately, Piper's lack of obedience to God's word in 1 Corinthians 15:33: “Do not be deceived: Bad company ruins good morals” continued to perpetuate his decline in discernment as he extended an invitation to Rick Warren (2010) and Louie Giglio (2011) to be speakers at his Desiring God National Conferences as well. Then at Passion 2012, Pastor John Piper condoned and participated in Louie Giglio's practice of a meditative, mystical-type exercise that closely mirrors the heretical ‘Lectio Divina’ where Catholic priests believe that God directly speaks extra-biblical messages to those who engage in this mind-emptying practice.”
Piper praises Rick Warren and associates with him. Though they both are heretics so why would they care to come out and be separate from the ungodly. You have Rick Warren who held hands with Elton Rick Warren and spoke of kissing him. Elton John will dress to resemble Marilyn Monroe and says the Savior was homosexual. Though it should not surprise as Rick Warren rocks out with filthy, secular rock music on his stage and has sexy gals dance on his rocking stage. He holds dances in his church where gals like to have their dresses fly to their waist. He makes his own religion and speaks how he works with homosexuals and all who agree with his P.E.A.C.E. plan. He is a totally, blasphemous man. However, the great apostates love to associate with the famed to further inflate their hedonistic greed.
I will add all pastors are to meet the godly requirements of an elder as presented in the books of Timothy, Titus, and elsewhere. They are to be above reproach in every manner and separated from this vile world and its entertaining ways. And they are to know their Bibles from cover to cover and obey all that pertains to the church age, remembering much of the Old Testament is reemphasized in the New. This would be all which dresses believers in godliness.
Additionally, Piper as a wicked false teacher, being a Calvinist, explains the Jews have no right to the land of Israel. This is a lie, hypocrisy, and blasphemy. He certainly does not believe in Revelation, Zechariah, Psalm 2, and on and on. Jews will rightly dwell in Israel when Jesus Christ rules the world from this nation and a Gentile will grab a robe of a Jew and request to worship with him: “Thus says the LORD of hosts, ‘In those days ten men from all the nations will grasp the garment of a Jew, saying, “Let us go with you, for we have heard that God is with you.’ ”
Gentile Christians are grafted into Christ, our olive tree; we are to view this as a privilege, not as something that evokes any pride or prejudice against God’s chosen race, the Jews. We do not replace the Jews in any permanent sense. We are simply a wild olive shoot and have nothing to boast in the cause of making the hardened Jews jealous that some of them might be saved. We are all saved by grace through our Savior’s sacrifice for all men. All Israel will be saved one day. Please study Romans 11:11-31.
Christians must pray for continual spiritual discernment and remain in the study of the Bible so they note the false teachers.

Here's a statement from an attendee: I was at the conference. Pastor Piper was the keynote speaker. The only speaker before him was Dr. Tim Clinton and his brief message was quite serious. So I don’t see that the AACC conference trained anyone to expect laughter and levity.
Pastor Piper did start with some ironic quips to which the crowd responded with natural laughter. Though the tape and Dr. Piper’s comments might make it seem like all 6,000 people were laughing, this is far from the case. Many people “got it” and understood that John had switched to serious mode. Many people were “with John” in thinking it odd that some people didn’t get the switch to serious. I spoke to many people directly after the message who were saddened that the laughter by some continued. But those people were not judgmental of the rest of the audience.
In comments in this blog and over at [Justin] Taylor’s blog, some folks are really taking the audience to task with a stereotype that “obviously these Christian counselors just don’t get sin.” I take issue with that. The AACC World Conference has over 40 pre-conference sessions and they deal with the issue of sin from the perspective of the sufficiency of Scripture to deal with sin and with suffering. The same is true of the over 150 track presentations.
Personally, I think there is a good deal of overreaction going on to this tape…listened to out of context. It is easy to judge others from a clip of a tape, or a page of a book, or a section of a blog. That strikes me as more of a “Corinthian” attitude than a “Berean” attitude, in my humble opinion.

The gospel is much more than just love and grace. The "good news" of the gospel, is that Christ saved us from our sins and the wrath of God who punishes all unrighteousness. Piper starts off with "I must crucify the love of praise...". That's similar to how Paul describes it in Galatians 5, in "... crucifying the flesh daily", and only by the grace of God Paul goes from persecuting christians to becoming an apostle as he says in 1 Corinthians 15:10.
