I know convenience is good with the scan and go, BUT Costco keeps people employed by having people working at the registers. Costco pays their employees really well and their benefits are amazing.

I know people think that scan and go apps are reducing jobs, but it's just the jobs you can see. Sam's club is paying programmers to create and manage their apps. Those are higher paying jobs as well. So just because you can't see the person, doesn't mean someone lost a job. It's just a different job.

When I go to sams there are always at least 3 registers open even with scan and go. More during peak shopping hours.
Normally I agree with you. Go to the manned register instead of self checkout. But this is one place I make an exception because they do not seem to be cutting jobs as a result.

We have both memberships. Sam’s is cheaper in ways but also has less high quality and organic items. I feel Costco has more organic and cleaner items. I prefer Costco, but my husband likes Sam’s. We will just keep both memberships.

I purchased the Sams Club Plus membership last summer and for our family it was a wise purchase. I enjoy being able to shop early and have the aisles free of other shoppers. Prices for the items we shop for are great, also free shipping and the scan and go are life changing:)

YES! We upgraded to the Sam’s plus at the beginning of the pandemic when we couldn’t find anything and it has been amazing! I wish that we would’ve upgraded years ago! I will always through and through be a Sam’s Club girl. They sell the items that we use and we have never waited in line at Sam’s Club, even before the app! We use the app now typically to save time with not having to take all the items out of the cart and reload them lol! But like today for example - a Saturday, right after our governor announced another flipping lockdown coming next week, just 6 weeks out from Christmas......ZERO LINE!!!! They had tons of employees working to keep things tidy and ensure no lines!!! Costco that is closest to us is a complete and utter absolute insane madhouse 😳

Yep! This is why Costco has less of the conveniences than Sam’s Club is because they’re bare bones in other ways so that they can treat their employees well. Sam’s Club aka wal-mart is notorious for treating their employees terribly. Walmart had more employees on food stamps than any other employer in the country - reinvesting the government $ into their own business because they can’t pay their employees enough. ☹️

I have all 3 (the other being BJ's) but in the end if I could only have one card it would be Costco. They have more "stuff" other than food. Their bakery is the best by far. And number 1 is they treat their employees really well. Promote from with in, off on holidays etc. I have been shopping at my Costco since it opened over 20 years ago and among their staff I see some of the same people who were there when they opened. That says something in this day and age. Thanks for sharing your views on the two. Have a Blessed day.

As someone who’s always on the go and short of time, Sam’s hands down for me. Love their pickup service and it’s always ready before my designated time so if plans change I can get it earlier. Scan and Go saves me so much time in line!! During Covid lines were to the back of the store and I could just head out when I was done shopping. As someone who also has both memberships, I appreciate this video and your observations so much! The main things that keep me going back to Sam’s are the scan and go and the fact that (at least where I’m at in CA) my Sam’s is never as crowded or as crazy as our Costco. One funny observation from your video - I agree about the awkward milk jug shape - except in my local stores Costco is the one with the weird jugs and Sam’s has the “normal” ones lol. Just goes to show things will differ by region! 😊

I don’t think Costco will ever have the scan and go because they don’t trust their customers. At the 2 Costco’s I go to they pretty much dig through your cart like they are searching for diamonds to make sure you don’t have something that isn’t on your receipt. I hear people grumble all the time that they upset how your stuff is packed so that you have to repack the boxes

Sam's club has more "popular" junk food, in my opinion - which doesn't fit into my lifestyle. In case anyone doesn’t know, Best Foods Mayonnaise is the exact thing as Hellman’s. It was a marketing decision that Best Foods made when they purchased the Hellman’s brand. What brand you find in your store depends on what part of the country you are in.

I have been waiting and watching for this video! I only have a Sam's membership, we had gotten a Costco about 5 years but there were 2 major reasons for not getting a Costco membership. The 1st big reason was they put it on the far west side of the city which is an extra 20 minute drive in horrible traffic to get to which is a headache especially when you want to make a quick trip. The 2nd reason which is really another big reason I did not get a membership at Costco was, I went in to preview 2 different times and that place was a complete mad house each time, you could barely move in the store, I have several friends on that side of town that said it is always like that and I just can't stand to try and shop like that! I was so happy to see that Sam's beat them on price and selection for most everything! Thank you!

That's right! I think it's interesting. I live in Quebec, Canada and we don't have Sam's here but when I went in the US, my impression was that it was a Walmart with bulk stuff but you can't compare sometimes the quality of Costco. I used to live in Florida, my ex-husband was military and we carried a card to both. It wasn’t until just a few years ago they built a Costco near me ( I have since moved North of Florida). Comparing the two was difficult. Costco built in a higher traffic, heavy stores and housing area. The Sam’s Club is in an area close by, but not AS heavily trafficked, but has been a staple for over 25 years prior to the opening of the Costco. The initial prices for the Costco membership was way higher than the Sam’s Club membership at the time. Since then, Sam’s Club basic membership is $45 or $55, while Costco’s is $60. Sam’s club plus membership is $100 and Cosco‘s executive membership is $120 in my area, they have gone down. I enjoy shopping both as one offers brands/products the other doesn’t, but membership prices and products vary by state/area.

We live over an hour away, from a Sam's or a Costco, so we only go a couple times a year. I love both, but I will say, the employees at Costco, seem more pleasant, and helpful. Also, because of the cost of the memberships, and our infrequent use, we have a Sam's membership, and just purchase a few hundred dollars, worth of Costco gift cards, at $25 each. At Costco, they allow you to shop, without a membership, if you have a gift card. So, $200 in gift cards, is eight trips.

Yes, Costco is closed on major holidays 👍 but everyone still goes to shop black Friday, starting Thursday.. worked in retail, and couldn't believe how many people run into stores to buy and roam instead of having dinner, and being thankful for what they have.. (for sales that are no better than what stores usually have during the year)
It was required for us to work Thursday/Friday/Saturday and anyone over 18 were scheduled from 12am to next day..😔

I have both and when I live near one I get a BJ’s membership. Two of us here and I have the cash rewards for both Costco and Sams. We love the fuel we can get cheaper. But both stores don’t have diesel. I generally use these stores for cases of canned goods to stockpile. Costco has more organic produce which I buy. Clothing is usually a deal at either store. Magazines!

Thank you for all your hard work on this. I wish I had a Sam's Club in South Orange County, CA (San Clemente) but only a Costco about 7 miles north of me. I differ with a couple of your comparisons ie: Kirkland "Organic" Chicken "Stock" vs Sam's club chicken "broth". Big difference between Stock and Broth and also Kirkland's is Organic so obviously more expensive. Also, the canned black bean comparison. Costco's is "organic" vs Sam's is not. So not comparable comparisons in my eyes. But again great job and thank you for all your hard work on this video. Really opened my eyes up. Maybe we'll get a Sam's down here in San Clemente some day.

I noticed the broth/stock comparison, too. With the beans, I am pretty sure on package had 6 cans and the other had 8. This is in no way meant to be derogatory. I absolutely appreciate the immense amount of work you did to bring us this video.

I cannot stand how Costco is so busy and getting run over with carts by rude people is not worth it to me anymore. Not to mention the parking lot is a freeway. Sam's gets busy but not nearly as bad as Costco. I also like how you can use credit cards at Sam's. But I still love Costco's merchandise.

I watched with interest! Long ago (5 years) I had each of them. Now we have neither, but I’ve always wondered which I would choose now. I agree with you on meats and organic = Costco! But I liked a lot of the areas you liked Sam’s best, variety in specialty items and convenience. We ONLY use Walmart’s free pickup for Covids sake, and having that available would be the deal breaker. Thanks for sharing

Sam's club is Walmart. Costco is an independent, publicly traded retailer. Sam's Club is a subsidiary of Walmart. A membership to Sam's Club is slightly cheaper than at Costco ($45 per year, as of 2019). 6 Costco offers a wider range of products than Sam's Club, and has many more locations.

You are very fortunate to have both nearby! The closest Sam's Club is more than an hour drive from where I live and Costco is even further at 2.5 hours. Needless to say, I do my shopping at Wal-Mart and Aldi. which are both within 30 miles. I do appreciate the info though. I love to see inside those stores (I have never been in one) - so more videos please!!!love!!!!

We do memberships to both, as they both are 5 minutes from our house. I love both for different reasons. Sam's Club: better prices; much more variety on things like spices, sauce, pantry staples; many more of our family fav's; Scan & Go app; order ahead online and just pick up the order. Costco: we have the Citibank Costco card so we earn on everything we use the card for- it pays for our annual membership and we also get a nice check to shop with; Kirkland brands are fantastic quality; specialty items like cheeses, chicken kabobs, half hams; absolutely BEST gas prices around our area; best prices on vitamins and OTC meds. I truly love both, I just have different things I get at each. And because we have the Citibank Costco card, I still get annual earnings on whatever I buy at Sam's too.

We considered both places but there's only 1 location near us for Costco and 3 nearby for Sam's. They're all an hour away so determining factor for us was cost of membership and how many locations were near us. We chose Sam's and got the 100 dollar membership. We have only gone 3 times as we've only just started the membership but we love it

We have both and they both have their pros and cons. We have been able to get 5 packs of Clorox wipes and 3 packs o Lysol pretty regular Sams, as well as gloves, masks and the plastic face shields. Scan and go is a huge plus, and I have say for convenience especially with the virus surge here in Montana Sams wins with their curbside pick up! And as a plus member I can pick up as early as 7 am!!

I agree 100% with you. Our purchases with the executive membership more than pays for the membership. We also have the Sams basic membership. I generally like themebersmark over the Kirklands brand. We buy the individually wrapped and frozen chicken breast since we have a small family and I love it. Our Sams fresh meat is much better than Costco’s but I feel it’s due to the local butcher.our Sams doesn’t have gas so that’s Costco for the win!!

For us, we started, just this year, with a basic Sam's Club membership. We kept an eye on the price of the higher membership and they kept lowering it. We ended up getting it for $20 less than the regular price. So, while I am like you where I want to go in and see, when they are running a sale on something I know I will use and I don't need it asap, I can get it shipped to me.
I just picked up a 25lb ap flour from Wal-Mart at $5.05 in Michigan.

I have had both, plus the other major club of BJ's. We dropped our Sam's many years ago because of financial issues. I can't say I've missed it. BJ's gets me better prices and coupons on more stuff I actually use over Costco (plus I can also use manufacturers coupons there.) However we've also kept Costco because it's so close to our house that the gas savings are more than enough to pay for the membership. I also can get my probiotic from the pharmacy and it's cheaper than anywhere else with coupons.
Kimmie, if y'all were to move to the Carolina's in the future, you'll have to find somewhere close to a BJ's. The couponing is phenomenal! (Ex. Cetaphil lotion comes in a two pack. It's roughly $20. BJ's runs their own coupon for $4-5 off, then manufacturers coupon is $2 off. You use BJ's coupon and TWO manufacturers coupons for an $8-9 savings, bringing the total down to less than one smaller bottle costs anywhere else.) BJ's also GREATLY reduce prices when they get down to the last few boxes of items. (Ex. $30 skillet for $5-8; Waterpik replacement heads reduced to $5-6 and use coupons to bring it to $1 or free)

Where I live I don't have a choice between Sam's Club or Costco...so I only know the Sam's side of things, but it is fun to watch when you shop at Costco.
I not sure why your Sam's club is the "old fashioned way" I know at my Sam's Club they scan everything right there in your cart and your on your way~ they don't have the scan as you shop method as of yet at my area store. But there are signs up that it is coming in the spring of 2022.
The shop online line feature and then go pick up has an additional fee where I live also of like $34.99 but if you have a Sam's Plus Membership it is free and with the Plus membership you can have it delivered to your home. For a limited time last year when the COVID pandemic was at it's highest Sam's Club offered the delivery to your home for all Sams club members for free and I did try it once but only once. We ordered produce and fruits and I don't know who they had picking out our fresh fruit and produce but most of it was spoiled or had mold on it. Making me take it back to the store, defeating the purpose of me staying home~for me it just wasn't worth the hassel. But I guess with all the complaints that is no longer an option in my area and delivery is no longer available.

Thank You so much for doing this video! As someone who has neither store locally, I've been wondering which one would be the better one to do "on-line/shipping" from. We'd have to travel over an hour to shop at either store in a much larger metro area, and the thought of weekend crowds is a huge deterrent. As some on here are, I too am a big proponent of shopping local when possible, but we're down to just one grocery store, and they don't always carry the items you need when making recipes. Thanks again, and stay safe!

When we couldn’t get grocery delivery anymore in our small town, we could still get all the basics for pickup at Sam’s. Not the same at our Costco. I first joined Costco because there wasn't a Sams anywhere near me. This was in Washington and it was where the business offices were and they were always trying out new things. Moved to Wyoming and nearest Sams was an hour and a half away so I joined. The nearest Costco over 2 hours away. I did belong to both for a while. Moved to Alaska a year ago.
